Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s tomato dhal. 200g red lentils, one tin tomatoes, water and a few gentle spices (whatever you have). Simmers on the hob in 30 minutes. Serves 4 with rice/naan/potatoes. Never fails.
He’s back!! We think he got stuck in an empty house in the neighbouring street. Our three-doors-down neighbours spotted him and tempted him in with Dreamies. Phew!
If anyone around Angus/Lochaber/Bangor Streets in Cardiff has seen this creature today, please send him home. Went out before breakfast and hasn’t been seen since. Answers (or not) to Chester. Chipped and in big trouble.
I think I’ve said before that I worked with someone whose subpostmaster father was caught up in the

Well, Twitter, I bloody went and did it. Mostly studied through the pandemic, online and in my back bedroom/home office. I might have to have a lie down.
Met this very handsome and chatty fellow on my walk home from work. Excellent miaow, top quality leg-weaving and super striped tail. 11/10 would fuss again

last night. Tickets were husband’s birthday present so was anticipating being the tolerant spouse but instead absolutely loved it. If it’s touring near you, go & see it, even if (like me) you know almost nothing of Neil Gaiman.
This boy hasn’t been seen since yesterday (Friday) morning. Please, Cardiff pals, keep eyes peeled around Angus Street and surrounding areas. He doesn’t wear a collar but he is microchipped, so please pop him to a vet if you find him.

This pod accompanied me on my lunchtime walk and I cannot recommend it enough. Not only the insights into Empire, but the incredibly resonant bits on the losses suffered by socially mobile working class kids.

I did not need John McEnroe when you’ve successfully had a whole coterie of brilliant, articulate, women talking about this match and the tournament.
What’s that you say? Students following guidelines and keeping themselves, their peers and university staff safe? Who would have thought?! Well, we would, because we trust them, treat them like the grown-ups they are and work with them.

1. ‘Bossy’ is just the first of many words men will use to try to silence you - don’t let them.
2. You don’t have all the answers, and that doesn’t matter - ‘I don’t know’ is a really powerful phrase
3. You are more than what people see.
Well. Fat, middle-aged, perimenopausal, under-trained and drowning in stress. And I did it. Not my best time by a long way, but by Gaia it feels amazing. For the first time ever I burst into tears on the finish line.
So, cheesy medal picture taken once I’d recovered my composure slightly. Having had proper breathing difficulties at 11 miles and again at the finish, to go with the seizing hip and generally being way too hot from about 14k onwards, I have decided to be pleased that I finished.
I’ve known people block me before, but none of those were one of my local councillors with whom, as far as I can remember, I’ve never had any interaction. Odd.
Finished this. Took me a day-and-a-half. You should all read it, especially if you have any sort of responsibility for any other people. Thank you

Just had word from the vet that this handsome fellow needs all his teeth removing 🙀 We’ve tried for years to address the chronic gingivitis he arrived with, but the damage has got too much. Hoping he’ll forgive us in due course.

I worked with someone whose Dad was caught up in this. IIRC they lost their family home and I think he was under threat of prosecution. I remember her sobbing in the office because she couldn’t believe her Dad could be a criminal, and of course he wasn’t. So much debvastation.
Finally managed a non-stop 5k for the first time in literally months. Don’t know if I’m at last getting rid of whatever’s been bugging my lungs, or if the warmer temperature made the difference, or a bit of both. Still slow, but at least it’s progress.

‘Met’ this beauty at parkrun this morning. Got spooked by a dog and absolutely hurtled up into this tree. 10/10 for athleticism 1/10 for sociability.
So, no more 5am wake up calls, no more elegant paw tapping an arm for attention, no more little black nose appearing between face and book, and no more bedtime cuddles. Farewell beautiful Countess Meena.
Here be the hot and sweaty face of a woman who has just done her first run in two months. Yes, it was only a walk-run, but no back pain, no complaining lungs, and no wanting to stop, so we’re taking that as a successful first step.
Remember all those miles I bored on about running in October? Well, my medal arrived and I presented it to myself! 🤣
#LeaveNothingButFootprints
PS Yes, massively in need of a hair cut 😱😱
Before and after the Swansea Bay 10k. 63:54 which included stopping for two minutes to help a fellow runner who had fallen and was then having a minor panic attack. Really nice event which. I would definitely recommend. Pretty pleased with the new giraffe print shorts too.
The adoption fee is paid and we’ve been checked out so I think it’s safe to tell you, Twitter, that this chap is joining our family tomorrow.

Hi Jeremy. I have responsibility for Employability in a university with a large proportion of students from less privileged socio-economic backgrounds. We spend a lot of time getting corporations into classrooms to show those students all the options available to them.
Once again channelled the sadness and frustration of the week into parkrun and this time I’m ringing the PB bell!! 28.33 official new parkrun PB. Don’t know if it’s the Moti sessions or the new shoes or what, but who cares!
What kind of person gets up at 6.30 on a Saturday to go running in the pouring rain, comes home for a hot shower and then heads back out into said pouring rain to cheer on other people who are running in it? A

volunteer, that’s the kind of person. Mad.
This absurd creature is 14 years old today. Hungry when awake and grumpy if disturbed from sleep, with a fondness for a comfy blanket and a quiet life, he is truly my spirit animal.
So it wasn’t all a dream… After 21 months of relentless, tireless work to reinvent everything we do, this award belongs to the team in

having uprooted m’lovely husband and my’s perfectly lovely London life for a brand new adventure. Not sure I’m exactly part of the furniture just yet, but not far off…
For one reason and another this week I’ve been sitting in the company of a lot of sadness. So this evening I’m sitting with this pair of furry comfort blankets. The wee beasties always know.
Hello pals. As most of you know I’m both asthmatic and turning 40 this year. I’m bringing those things together by running in four 10k races between now and August to raise money for

The early week optimism has taken a terrible battering. But I’ve made it to Friday and I’ll drink to that, as well as to the memory of a beautiful, kind woman taken much too soon and much too suddenly. And to the hope that her devastated husband will find a way to heal.
Husband and I have decided that we will go to the movies every Saturday afternoon. Phones off, popcorn microwaved and blinds closed. This afternoon was Slumdog Millionaire. Taking recommendations for future weeks. No elves, explosions or superheroes.

Remember it’s misogyny. Remember that men get away with much worse behaviour and call it ‘being dynamic’ or ‘decisive’. Remember that all insults implying weakness are female and set out to disprove that they are actually weak.
