African mothers watching y’all realize all these things are fake, feeling vindicated cause they sent you about 747484 WhatsApp videos warning you months ago.
Iya ni wura forreal.
A day will come when the reputation South Africans are building for themselves with how xenophobic they can be will go farther than they imagine, and they won’t like where it takes them.
The same way I felt about “Essence” is exactly how I feel about “Water”, they should be competing with the biggest songs for the year. Throwing them in the Africa category is some sort of weird cop out by folks at the Grammys.
Lagbaja was doing Afrofusion before Burna dreamed of becoming an artiste. Y’all need to actually learn about Nigerian music before making statements like this.
Burna Boy created and pioneered the AfroFusion genre and it’s now officially stated on Apple Music, after 2 years of pushing for it to be recognized on the biggest Digital Streaming Platform.
Fela Anikulapo Kuti created AfroBeat.
Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu Rex has created
🚨🗣️Ayra Starr on the Afrobeats discussion:
“It’s not fair at all. People want to put negativity on Afrobeats because it has become so mainstream. The generations of African artists who worked to this extent for people like me to be able to be global with this sound worked for
Trevor Noah has done 847384893 standup specials explaining race relations in South Africa, explaining the usage of the word “colored”, and this conversation is still happening…
21-year-old South African artist Tyla has made it very clear that she doesn't identify as Black. Instead, she prefers to identify as colored because of her mixed race. Tyla's hit song “Water” peaked at 18 on Billboard charts.
Joe Budden and people who think like him feel how they feel about Tyla because she’s not on some “happy to be here shit” enough for their liking, which all boils down to her being African and how they expect Africans to bow to them.
They be so happy, it’s so cute. You can literally ask for anything in that period. Aim for the first 2 days though, ask about introducing another woman into the marriage and she might say yes
And for the people who will say “the Grammys is a US award” as they often point out when I say this. Where in the US is Adele from, and why does she get to compete with Beyoncé and the rest quite often?
IYKYK.
That Best African Performance category will turn to “Biggest African song to blow up in the US” as time goes on. And it’s convenient for them cause we’re just happy we have a category, which works cause they don’t have to deal with African acts blocking nominations and wins for
RIP Onyeka Onwenu. One of the finest, most brilliant and most accomplished entertainers/public figures Nigeria has ever seen.
Thank you for everything you gave us 🕊️
Things get awkward when you realize one of your long term friendships isn’t actually built on anything solid, and it’s just nostalgia holding it together.
Tonitone was right when she said marriage wasn’t an accomplishment. Finding the person to go on life’s journey with is probably the accomplishment (which can happen without marriage).
So you basically have two routes to win a Grammy as an African act.
You either make kumbaya style African music and end up in the “World” category, or make a hit targeting the US market to get into the “Best African Performance” category. Pick one.
Gongo Aso is iconic for many reasons. But my favorite is probably producing one of the HARDEST lines in a Nigerian song “ajisebi oyo laari, oyo o’shebi baba eni kankan”. Even JAY Z couldn’t have said it like that
America didn’t elect probably the most powerful white woman in politics against a Trump without any political experience in 2016, and you somehow think they will elect a black woman in 2024?
Delusion is dangerous.
You can’t be fucking with people that hate your kind deep down. I bet the Nigerian artistes making “Free Mandela” songs back when he was in prison, and everyday Nigerians carrying the fight against apartheid on their heads must be baffled at all this smh
On the receiving end of super thoughtful acts like this is usually an equally thoughtful and kind person. So some of you will never experience anything this cause you’re selfish, wicked and if we’re being honest, demonic.
Change your ways.
Una no fit call una babe “babe”, “lady”, “woman”, “darling”, shit even “empress queen mother of the three suns”. It’s always straight to “bitch” WHY???
@imgoodnewz
It’s so messed up, I saw a YouTube video with the front facing guy talking about everything they put into building that place and all this feels like a deliberate fuck you from someone.
Never regretted anything I did for and in love, cause that’s me at my best.
Now the things I’ve done with spite and malice? The shame still stresses me out sometimes.
@comeupshuffle
That’s insane. I used to see it as a faction of extremists like most countries have, but it seems like it has become their general identity now.
I enjoy doing things with my 30+ year old friends. We know the vibe we’re on, we know our limits, and our social and physical batteries start dying around the same time.
