And, it’s contrary to available evidence- Indians & Filipinos are the second most reliably Democratic racial/ethnic voting block, right after African Americans. My father, a S Asian surgeon, who used to vote R for tax breaks stopped in 2016, too!

Even if it *weren't* the case that his casting was authentic to the comics, I'd still support him (this is *art* and artistic re-interpretation/re-invention happens!). But *especially* given canon Wiccan, MCU "fans" who have a problem with Joe Locke being "too queer" can STFU.

Actually, this is likely the S3 episode that I will rewatch most frequently. I’ll soon write more, but I’ve never seen my own experience in a psych hospital as a gay teen portrayed so carefully/authentically on screen. Consequently, that episode both shatters & heals me. 💔❤️🩹

To see some portion of my teenage mental health (MH) struggles as a nerdy closeted gay boy reflected on screen, & portrayed with such care & talent by Joe Locke, is truly a gift. 🩷 I so hope it will help today’s queer youth address their own internalized stigma & MH issues! 🏳️🌈

Not all Ivy-educated, either; tech/finance-bros can make a ton of disposable income whether gay or not. Some of this is personal priorities, too. I’m a tenured prof. in STEM; I make a comfortable lower-mid-6-figure income but don’t do the club scene 🤷🏾♂️

& it reminded me of some of my friends when I was a suicidal teen. It’s hard seeing value in someone beyond their ability to be happy in the moment when you’re 16, I suppose. More detailed thoughts below 👇🏾

Theater should be engaged with and enjoyed! As long as the players/production aren’t disrupted from their act, authentic Shakespeare is raucous, gut-wrenching, & deeply human. It isn’t *meant* to be silently observed!

Definitely a love letter to my suicidal teenage self, when I felt alone & hopeless because I was a nerdy gay boy in a Catholic high school (& ended up in a psych hospital for 3 weeks after an attempt)- watching Charlie’s struggles will be both unsettling & uplifting ❤️🩹

Not every fantastic story needs to capture *every* aspect of the relationships in the plot. Yes, sex/sexuality is part of the story at the heart of Heartstopper, but it's not the *only* part (&, Alice spends time fleshing out other aspects of the relationship)- which is fine!

Whether it's "incredible" or merely *impressive* as a feat of strength (he's a very strong young guy, after all), it's also more genuine to an original Elizabethan era Shakespeare production where the crowd was often verbally (not just emotionally) engaged with the players!
