Philly can't be a city of no. We cannot be a world class city, fund our schools, and rebuild our communities by obstructing change and fighting investment. We can't yearn to always be America's poorest big city as a sort of cultural statement. We need to innovate and grow.

Community gardens cannot combat rising food insecurity. A grocery store could. You might get a nice salad out of several months of community gardening, but you cannot feed a neighborhood let alone a household with one. So many better uses for land in urban environments.

Very disappointing that Macy's, in the heart of Philadelphia's Chinatown/Fishtown community (13th & Market), will close after the closure has been widely predicted for years. Maybe it can be converted into a community pool, a teen rec center, or a dog park.
Macy’s parent company is expected to close up to 65 stores across the country this year. City officials have openly expressed fears that the retailer’s location at 13th and Market Streets could be on the chopping block.

I hope Mayor Parker and her team also read the room BEYOND the room - I live and work in Center City Philadelphia. I left my desk around 530 to get to the Convention Center by 545, didn't get inside and sit down until 620, and just got home after the event ended until 930pm.

Pretty sure the only "win" Chinatown got out of this saga was a restrictive development and use zoning overlay that essentially requires a variance for. any use or proposed building in Chinatown.

Like, oppose the project! That's fine, you can do that. You can say it's a bad use of space, that it's too disruptive, that the City should buy the land and build a park on it or something. This avenue of attack is racist and classist.
