“You damn right I pray to get home safe when I fly. And thanks to these two skilled pilots. I did—just like thousands of passengers do every day. Prayers and condolences are sent to those recently impacted by tragic plane crashes. Let’s remember that aviation safety depends on the expertise, training, and dedication of ALL professionals in the industry. Diversity in aviation isn’t just about representation—it strengthens the field, ensuring we have the best and brightest at the controls. Black excellence in aviation is not new, and it’s not up for debate. 🎙️ Pod Drop!🎙️ Don’t miss this powerful episode of #UnapologeticallyBlackUnicorns! As we all know, with a new US president comes a wave of change across the administration. Political appointees and members of the outgoing cabinet  may step down, making way for new leadership and priorities. It’s a natural part of the process, but it’s also an important moment to honor the incredible work of those who’ve paved the way. In this special episode, we revisit our December 2022 conversation with Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, the Assistant Secretary of @samhsagov the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Dr. Delphin-Rittmon is a transformative force in mental health and substance use care—championing equity, compassion, and meaningful change. Her leadership has shown us what’s possible for ALL when dignity and recovery are at the forefront of policy and action. As we celebrate her contributions, we also challenge ourselves to carry her  and SAMHSA's vision forward—demanding accountability from future leaders and ensuring progress doesn’t stall (or go backwards). 💡 What inspires you most about leaders like Dr. Delphin-Rittmon, and how can we build on their legacy together? 👉 Tune in to this replay on your favorite pod platform or easily here: Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe to amplify this important message! Back in 2022 this was episode 80! Now in 2025 it is episode 188 :) #MentalHealth #Leadership #SAMHSA #EquityInAction #RecoveryMatters #Podcast #UnapologeticallyBlackUnicorns

🎙️Pod Drop!! 🎙️ Have you listened to the latest #UnapologeticallyBlackUnicorns podcast episode yet? This episode is a special re-release featuring a conversation with @jeffolivet , the outgoing Director of the @USICHgov U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. Recently, Jeff shared his powerful farewell message reflecting on the challenges and progress in addressing homelessness during his tenure. You can read it here: In this episode, Jeff and I discuss the critical work that has been done—Jeff shares how housing is healthcare, and that homelessness is solvable and it’s preventable. We talk about how homelessness is a cross-systems failure and how it requires cross-systems solutions, the importance of having the safety of a place to stay with a door that locks behind you in which you have the key. It’s a timely reminder of the collective effort required to tackle homelessness and the importance of continuing to push for equitable solutions especially as we head into a new administration. Thank you, Director Olivet, and everyone at USICH for your dedication and service! 🙏 💡 What steps do you think we should prioritize now and under the new administration? I’d love to hear your thoughts. 👉 Don’t forget to listen, like, comment, and subscribe—and most importantly, share this episode to spread the message. You can find the podcast on your favorite platform or listen directly here: Let’s keep the conversation going! #Homelessness #Recovery #Hope

🎙️Pod Drop!!🎙️ Life happens, and sometimes it’s heavy. The recent passing of my Dad makes sharing about these experiences not only cathartic but also deeply important. Caregiving, grief, and healing are universal journeys, yet they’re often carried in silence. In this episode of #UnapologeticallyBlackUnicorns, I open up about what it means to navigate these challenges and why it matters for workplaces to create cultures that support emotional wellbeing and mental health during such times. By sharing, I hope to spark conversations, provide validation, and remind others they’re not alone. Have you experienced something similar? I’d love to hear your thoughts. 🎙️Pod Drop!🎙️ For those who've been following the #UnapologeticallyBlackUnicorns podcast, you may already know my father, Howard A. Myrick, as both a guest and the inspiration behind many family stories shared during solo storytelling episodes. This special episode is a tribute to my dad, who passed away on November 12, 2024. It’s hard to find the right words to frame this moment, but I’m full of emotions as I reflect on his incredible life and legacy. Take a moment to listen to this episode and explore the playlist Conversations with My Father. It’s a powerful testament to who he was—intelligent, caring, funny, and an extraordinary storyteller. My dad had an unmatched ability to connect with people, no matter their background. He could meet someone and immediately find common ground, sparking meaningful conversations and lasting impressions. I wouldn’t call myself a daddy’s girl—our closeness as father and daughter grew over time. But through years of observation, listening, and learning, I came to admire the gifts my father brought into this world. His dedication to family, his compassion for the community, and his love for his country were evident in everything he did. Today, I feel the weight of sadness, but I also feel immense gratitude. I was lucky to have such a remarkable father—one whose legacy I can continue to share with the world. Listen to this episode and celebrate his life with me. It’s not just a tribute; it’s a celebration of his impact, his wisdom, and his enduring love. You can find the pod on your favorite podcast platform or easily here: More info-Howard A. 🎙️Pod Drop!! 🎙️ Last week, we delved into the importance of voting with a message from my father. This week, I revisited the #UnapologeticallyBlackUnicorns archives to unearth messages of hope, especially timely during this election season. Have you cast your vote yet? Please go vote! In my inaugural year of podcasting, I had the privilege of chatting with sisters Katherine Grainger and Rebecca Grainger. Revisiting their episode, "Cognitive Liberation," fills me with immense hope. Today, we are re-airing this episode to pass on the torch of hope :). Katherine's profound words resonate deeply, "I wake up every morning because I have a strong belief a new world is possible. We right now have the ability and tools to make it such." Curious about what else Katherine and Rebecca have to share? That opening statement alone exudes power and hope. Tune in on your preferred pod platform or access it easily here to enrich yourself with their wisdom and hope: Let's keep the conversations alive and the hope ignited! 🎧🔥 #Podcast #Hope #ElectionSeason #VoteNow #MentalHealthMatters

I’m overwhelmed with joy and pride as I reflect on this moment. My vision for the **CADRE Policy Academy**, a dream that started as a concept paper, funded for its pilot year by the Ford Foundation, has become a reality. CADRE - stands for Collective Action Democratized by Relevant Experience -the policy academy is designed to skill up people of color with lived experiences of mental health conditions to be badass policy advocates and build a grassroots mental health systems reform movement. This past week in Washington, D.C., we launched our **inaugural cohort** at **Howard University's School of Medicine** and I couldn’t be prouder. This group is made up of individuals with lived/living experience, family/caregivers, and providers, including residents—each of them with a unique voice and story. thanks to Dr. Hairston at for leading the charge as PI. This incredible group had the honor of meeting with **Senator Padilla's office**, and wow, they truly ROCKED it. Their passion, courage, and conviction were nothing short of inspiring. Thank you Adrienne Epstein and John Chambliss for your enthusiasm and support ensuring folks were heard throughout our time together! *I’m not crying, you are...* okay, yes, I was crying. It was a moment that felt like the culmination of so much hard work, passion, and heart. To top it off, I received the warmest hug from **Senator Padilla** himself, who affirmed my happy tears when he saw me crying at the end of the meeting, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Here’s to **CADRE** and to many more moments like this—building a future where lived experiences drive policy change. 💪🏾❤️ 👏🏾👋🏾 Shout out to Kelechi Ubozoh Rebecca Cokley Danielle Hairston, M.D. Nathaniel Hundt #MentalHealth #Equity #LivedExperience #DisabilityJustice #PolicyChange #CADREPolicyAcademy #HowardUniversity #FordFoundation --- **Image Description (for both images):** Two vibrant group photos of the inaugural cohort of the CADRE Policy Academy at Howard University's School of Medicine. The group includes a diverse mix of lived experience experts, family caregivers, and providers, all proudly standing together after a successful meeting with Senator Padilla’s office. Everyone is smiling, exuding a sense of accomplishment, strength, and unity, with an American flag and Senator Padilla's office plaque visible in the background. In the second image, the group stands outside Howard Univeristy School of Medicine building, continuing their journey of advocacy and policy change.
