Follow your passion. Many first books fail to sell. There's an ocean of competition out there! But many readers get hooked on a series after the second, third, or fourth book comes out. Baen has this great technique of offering the first for free, as an appetizer for the main course. Draws in tons of readers, many who never knew the series even existed! Caught me a few times, too...not gonna lie. Best of luck, whatever you decide!

@Rothmus Pretty much. We're a mighty mishmash of cultures. Walk down the street, and you'll meet former New Yorkers, sweet-tea drinking Southerners, and many, many others all chomping down on Cuban sandwiches. Lovely people and lively conversations
