23 years ago, he asked the woman who owned the home I grew up in if we could see my old bedroom. She said ok. Once safe inside the pink and gray walls he asked me to marry him. He’s said he wanted to propose to me in my childhood home. He wishes he knew me that long ago.

My brother and I were like baby tigers when we were kids. Out in nature all the time- baring our teeth and throwing down, we made each other strong. This was taken after an 8 mile kayak trip resting after a swim. Like old times like never before.

It’s my dad’s 76th birthday today. As a City of Rochester Recreation Leader, he taught me how to value play well beyond childhood. He raised me to talk back to authority, (including him) to punch a bully hard, and fight tooth and nail for what is right. Happy birthday, Da!
