Chapter on arranged marriage now available on @socarxiv! It will appear in a 2024 Handbook. I first locate arranged marriage over time and space – highlighting confusion over Northwest Europe. I then focus on variation and change in South Asia. (1/2)

Please note this advice is specific to the UK. In the United States, admissions to graduate programs are usually determined by a committee. Most US faculty communicate with potential grad students only after an applicant is admitted and deciding amongst programs.

The chapter includes an implicit homage to my Dad (@AllendorfFred)! I juxtapose the marriages of his two historic heroes – Darwin and Gandhi – when contrasting arranged and self-choice marriage. (2/2)

A preview of "Join my Weddings" website - where one can choose an Indian wedding! I am also intrigued to see couples in "featured weddings" wearing light pink. Some in my twitter feed are bemoaning this trending palette as an unfortunate Western or Christian influence. (2/2)

Are Mira and Nikhil the top Indian American names? Both of these desi names entered the top 1000 names given to US-born babies ~2000 - when the (Asian) Indian American population rose to ~2 million. Mira even cracked the top 500 girl names in 2017.
