This is absolutely abhorrent. How deep our cultural denial runs that a man who murdered his son can be referred to this way. A NSW Health executive has today sent an all-staff email in which he praised a Lismore father who killed himself & his two-yr-old-son as a “wonderful.

It is extremely problematic to hear the NSW Police Commissioner describe the killing of Jesse Baird & Luke Davies as ‘a crime of passion’. By all accounts the killer’s alleged actions are the hallmarks of control, jealousy & power. Not love or passion.

The frequency of women killed in Australia is horrifying. 4 women killed allegedly by male violence in the last 10 days alone. Violence against women is a national crisis. We need funding & attention commensurate with the scale of the problem. The status quo is not good enough.

For the fourth time in 10 days, a woman has been allegedly murdered in Australia. She was killed at Kangaroo Flat, Victoria. A man, believed to be her partner, is in custody. Her children were at home when she was killed. She is the 56th Australian woman killed in 2023!❤️.

Critical point by @zdaniel: Women’s economic independence & safety are inextricably linked. @SummersAnne study ‘The Choice’ showed that for too many women in Aus returning to a violent partner seemed a better choice than being homeless or living in poverty

Women’s economic security is critically important in preventing violence against women. We must remove the barriers that stop women from having financial independence.
