Bridge inspections have begun on the George Rogers Clark bridge. Engineers are using a snooper truck to initially assess conditions under the deck. Daytime inspections will also take place tomorrow. The bridge is still closed to traffic.
Engineers have begun an initial inspection of the sidewalk & railing of the Clark Memorial Bridge in Jefferson County using drones.
A physical inspection is needed to assess conditions above & below the bridge, & will occur when the scene clears.

Engineers have been at the crash site on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge since early this morning to continue assessments and inform next steps.
An update will be provided later today.
We have worked through the night to make sure you arrive safely at your destination. The interstates remain wet with some icy spots, particularly on the ramps. We will have a shift change for our contractors at 6am so they can continue to treat the roads into midday. 🧵

A blade is replaced on a plow at our Jefferson County East Barn in Middletown overnight. About 30 salt trucks just from this barn worked through the night plowing and treating 🧂 the interstates.

UPDATE: I-64 E To Re-Open Tomorrow, June 30, @ 6 am - Crews finished work earlier than anticipated!
Project included asphalt resurfacing, guardrails, removal of concrete pavement in Cochran Tunnel, bridge deck replacement over Beals Branch Rd, bridge overlay over Lexington Rd
Personal protective equipment (PPE) donations dropped off at the District 5 office since yesterday. Among items donated are nearly 45,000 gloves, 40 masks, and almost 20 gowns to help protect KY's medical staff. More details on donating can be found here:

ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12 - Roads across our 8 county district are partly to mostly covered with snow. Moderate to heavy snow is falling & some crews have begun plowing roadways. Drivers are likely to encounter slick pavement, so PLEASE slow down.
District 5’s full complement of crews and contractors have worked nonstop since snowflakes started falling Thursday evening (Dec. 22). They are taking advantage of today’s (Dec. 24) sunshine to apply full chemical treatment on all state roads. 🧵

TRAFFIC ALERT FOR I-65 MOTORISTS - LG&E had to turn off the power in downtown Louisville near the Kennedy & Lincoln bridges because rising water from the Ohio River was getting up into their switch box. This has affected all lighting on the Kennedy & Lincoln bridges.

I-64 UPDATE - The eastbound lanes of I-64 are now OPEN between Story Avenue and Grinstead Drive in Jefferson County. The westbound lanes remain closed because water is still over most of the roadway.

"Road closed" signs are posted for a reason. Don't put yourself in this position. Obey traffic control signs. This embankment slide on KY 1263 (Big Eddy Rd) in Franklin Co happened in early Nov. No timetable yet on reopening as repair contractor is working on other slides in KY.

I-65 South Kennedy Bridge Update: Following a successful materials test this morning, crews have began to remove all traffic control from the area. Motorists should use caution until removal is complete. All 6 lanes will be open in approxiatmely 3 hours (if not sooner!)

Crews will be pothole patching along various portions of the interstates in Jefferson County between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day this week. If you see one of our crews, please use caution while traveling through their work zone!

Repair & reinforcement work on the Singing Bridge in Frankfort is finished! Contractors fixed damage done to the bridge during a crash. Additionally, work to reinforce truss members with new steel was done. Because of this, the Bridge's weight limit has been increased to 9-tons.

With all of the rain we've had today, debris along the interstates is clogging some drains. Our crews are working quickly to get them cleared so water can flow away from the roadway, especially before the temps drop below freezing.
