The Jefferson Co. Coroner’s Office confirmed 53-year-old Sgt. Thomas Petschke Jr. with Ballardsville Fire died in the line of duty while working a fire in Goshen. Petschke was with Ballardsville for nearly a decade and was the owner of Industrial Turnkey Solutions in La Grange.

La Grange resident Bob Curran, who completed the 14-state, 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail hike yesterday, was welcomed back home by family and friends today at the Louisville International Airport. Curran, 65, began his hike on Feb. 27 in Georgia and reached Maine yesterday.
