How do you cope with sitting at a desk all day for your regular job, then coming home to write in the evening? This standing desk is helping me - any other ideas? 🤔

Managed to haul myself out of bed before yoga this morning and wrote for a whole hour, undisturbed. Well, apart from Bertie, who kept licking my feet for attention 🤣
It feels so good to get back in the game.

Writers - check this out! No more cold tea when I'm wrapped up in my writing - this little gadget plugs into the laptop USB and keeps my drinks warm 🍵 I think my daughter found it online

My second favourite thing to do, other than writing, is... visiting places as research for my novel.
I love this beautiful pond in the countryside. It only features for a few seconds in my book, but it was still worth the visit!

I love walking in the English countryside with my husband, soaking up the soothing atmosphere. Linda, my protagonist, needs this quiet village as a safe haven when things get out of control.

Caspar, our cat, is surveying me through the window as I type. He's probably thinking "I wouldn't write it like that...it's pants." Bertie, our cute Llhasa Apso, thinks everything I write is great though, as he adores me!
@TheDukeLott
Just listened to this great interview. Thank you for the tips about taking your time with publishing deals etc - all very helpful. The 'surprises' at the beginning made me laugh!
@rhursday
This is my dream and goal! I find it hard, as my day job is sitting at a desk 9-5 and I only get 30 minutes for lunch. It's either get up super early or work in the evening. Tricky!

Hi Evelyn, to be honest - I'm finding it a really steep learning curve, but I love it! I'm barely scratching the surface of what it can do, but I think it's worth it. I can easily move chapters around, see a virtual pinboard of my whole book and store research in one place. 😊

My goodness - I've learnt so much from this one reply - thank you. I've just downloaded 'Runner' on Amazon and will start reading it tonight!
@DrL_Reads
Hard to say - I keep saying 'one more draft' - then deciding it still needs lots more work!
Well done with your WIP - sounds like it's going in the right direction.
@MarkSowersBooks
He's so cute!! Good luck with the moose - I guess if they've decided to stay you'll have to get used to it... That's a lot of animal to shift!!
@PennilessScribe
That's fantastic advice - it gave me a giggle this morning too! You're right - work is work, but writing is my passion that I choose to do. Maybe a classical playlist could work - otherwise I'll start singing along (badly) and get nothing done!
I love your username by the way!😊
@JagsArthurson
Thank you. I've been using the 'dialogue focus' on Scrivener to really look into the conversations - I'll use it now for reading out loud. I'm excited to start your book this evening :-)
@family_writing
Thanks Jesper - that's so helpful. I always try to sit there for a few hours, but often end up procrastinating!! I really like the idea of a productive time limit - thank you! Secondly, I like the idea of sitting somewhere else to write, rather than where I do 'normal' work 😊
@SusanSavageLee1
Erm, no! I'm on 75,500 words and all the story is there, but it needs a lot more editing before I can start sending it out. It's tricky, working full-time and trying to get enough hours to write.
@LanaCwrites
Hi Lana, it's easy to be so wrapped up in a storyline that you end up microwaving the same cup of tea several times, which is a rather disgusting habit of mine! It never tastes 'quite right' afterwards...
@SusanSavageLee1
First person for me - right in there with the thoughts and actions! I hope other readers like it too, as that's how I'm writing my first novel. I'm four drafts in so far, so I hope I don't have to change it 😜
@bethanyhensel13
I had a good rhythm during April and got up early every morning - but by the end of the month I was exhausted. My goal is to write 6 days per week, but I'm only managing about 3 at the moment. Having a desk bound job makes it tricky to sit down to write. Just keep plugging away
@leokearon
Although I know the place well, it was so helpful to make a special trip to take in the scenery and atmosphere. It's good to know that you use real locations in your writing too
