Some bittersweet personal news: I'm retiring at the end of this month, after 36 years with the Chronicle. Covering the Bay Area's musical riches through the decades has been a joy and a privilege beyond anything I could have imagined.

A frequent Walz story: On road w/Harris, they see Trump fans. She says she’s fighting for them as well as Dems. But Walz is inconsistent about where it happened: Usually he says PA, sometimes Savannah, GA. Which one? Campaign now says it was PA & he may have mixed up bus tours.

Right there in my header (and my heart): Schubert C-Major String Quintet.
Favourite piece composed in the 19th century? I'm definitely a 20th/21st century music guy, but I still really like Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition". I have very fond memories of learning it on piano years ago.
