Two months ago I started as an organiser for North Cornwall, little did I know I’d be thrown into the deep end so quick.
It has been tiring but great to have worked with such an experienced campaign team, have learnt so much.
14.7k Tory majority turned into a 10.7k LD majority!
I love how they forgot to mention there was a terror threat against Taylor Swift which meant all the Vienna dates got cancelled… and after that police changed operations in London, incl. barring people from gathering outside concert
🚨 NEW: Taylor Swift was granted a blue-light escort through London after personal interventions from Sadiq Khan and Yvette Cooper
The Met originally declined the request. Starmer and Khan both later received free tickets

I mean given tower hamlets’ ruling party there is obviously a gender issue with certain political movements… but W.Streeting’s challenger was a woman, almost won and would’ve very likely joined the group.
The new independents didn’t stand on a left wing platform, but Gaza one.
We criticised GBN for having Conservative MPs interviewing the Tory Chancellor.
Not only is Ed Balls an ex-Labour MP, he is married to the Home Secretary, so we should call this out equally.
This is that hotel now. Happy?
Inflammatory rhetoric and narratives are dangerous. The Home Secretary is from your own party, you could have privately raised concerns, but you needed to ensure people could see you pointing the finger at the hotels.
Labour has welcomed a councillor over his opposition to the Lib Dem’s approval of *1,500 homes* on a golf course. The most awful type of NIMBYsm.
It still leaves the question of how Starmer’s “YIMBY agenda” will deal with internal local Labour opposition.
This honestly says a lot about how little research one has done.
We won Eastleigh, where the council built above targets and was attacked from tories on “overdevelopment”.
We won Chelmsford, where a council applauded by YIMBYs is LD-led.
We won in Neotts, where the MP has
And what do they have to show for it? Yes, opposing any and all local building is successful at winning seats, but it’s not enough to create a platform. The UK has been in turmoil and the Lib Dem’s, who fancy themselves as an opposition, have been completely absent.
I am absolutely gobsmacked by this decision.
So many called lefties at warwick attacked my motion by saying I was playing political games over Jews for fighting to leave the NUS - yet here we are again. I wish I hadn’t been right.
I emailed
@WarwickSU
the other for updates.
The UK’s National Union of Students has voted to expel the Union of Jewish Students.
This is gobsmacking antisemitism on full display.
If you don’t see where this hate is heading at this point, you’re willfully blind. Shameful.

The argument is that they’re telling greens to vote Labour in so many seats so telling people to vote greens in one seat they’ve a chance with no risk of tories getting in is fair balance
@adb0wen
It’s most likely that he didn’t pay £20k on a house but rather let him stay in one of houses, but when declaring it you’ve to value at the worth. Most people don’t have a spare house in central London but if they do I bet it’s not a run down £20 a night room.
The rules need serious reform.
I am not with any of the camps, but it seems tactical voting has taken place on an industrial scale either yesterday, today, or both.
It pains me to say it, but one STV ballot paper - rather than multiple rounds - would probably solve it.
@jaseokundaye
Especially when there is this, also that white politician that called Shaun Bailey uncle… didn’t get prosecute either. Did we arrest Boris Johnson when he called Muslim women who wear veils letterboxes?

It’s not just that though, American ticketing is extortionate - it got politicians speaking on it! The UK could also do £2k tickets and sell out, but we have nicer regulation and culture than America’s corporate greed.
@crowningred
They’re not comparable, Chagos islands has no civilian inhabitants (we forced them out), there’s just an army base which is not even ours but America’s - so for us is mostly symbolic.
Gibraltar and Falklands island have inhabitants who voted to remain in the UK.
My last (and first) autumn conference was 2019 Bournemouth, similar energy though we know the rest.
Brighton 2024 has been such a full circle moment, as the once (momentarily) sole exec member of Warwick LDs it’s great to see the effort of making it thrive again live on with -/
welcomed Labour’s intention to build more, especially infrastructure.
To put our win purely down to localism, when we have recovered in traditional areas and gained Home Counties (realignment talk often mentioned), really shows ignorance. But better for us, we will grow more.
Its really weird to hear a child of immigrants talk about unequal cultures while simultaneously wanting to roll back LGBT+ rights, such as by forcing schools to out children to parents, laws and guidance that many of the immigrant groups she hints at here cherish. Also, America?
“I don’t think that people who bring foreign conflicts here should be welcome”
Conservative leadership contender Kemi Badenoch says the UK needs to do better job at integration and that “people who come here… should love the country”

The fact that the shadow minister for the armed forces is accepting fake news to erase the lives of soldiers for political goal scoring.
This is why we need an effective opposition, this is why we need the Lib Dems.
Country first, petty politics (at expense of soldiers) second.
A girl from my school is now a commercial lawyer. She became an MYP as school encouraged her & she didn’t even realised she’d go to parliament, she just did something because she cared about the community.
The idea she’d been denied internship for saying she did sth in her spare
I once worked for an organisation where we got a lot of people applying for internships. They were immediately rejected if they put that they had been a MYP.
