@MattWalshBlog And on top of all that, Fox is censoring the cheerleaders, cropping them carefully out of every shot.

To be fair, the #SuperBowl commercials are dreadful too. Unimaginative, crass, boring. (Even the beer ads.) And the Fox team are shooting the game targer badly - too many closeups, not enough sense of the field, the crowd, the atmosphere.

@flowerpowernan @jpodhoretz Why should the half-time show be geared to a much, much smaller demographic than the game itself?

@BBCWorld @stevelai can you explain why in your news bulletins you repeatedly refer to ‘Trump’ but “President Biden”,” “Prime Minister Starmer” “President Obama” etc.?

@suzanne_moore A simply superb piece of writing (as well as being absolutely correct). Every thought clear. Every important connection made. Every note perfect.

22 years ago, in one of Uday Hussein’s ruined palaces in Baghdad I saw among the porn vids, Michael Moore’s ‘Stupid White Men’. It told me nothing abt the regime… For all solipsistic Kristof knows, the copy of his book in Gaza may have been stolen from a hostage on Oct 7…

In some quarters in the US there's a hateful stereotype that everyone in Gaza is a terrorist supporter, and perhaps that makes it easier to excuse the bombing of entire neighborhoods. In Gaza, @OmarHamadD found a destroyed house with my book about empowering women worldwide, "Half the Sky" (written with Sheryl @WuDunn). It's an English-language book that must have belonged to a sensitive and tolerant soul, for it is a passionate call for gender equality and blunt about gender challenges in some of the Muslim world. I don't know what happened to the people living in the house or if they survived, but I'm sick at the thought that my tax dollars supported the destruction and perhaps killing of this reader of mine.

@hrw We’re waiting for your self-proclaimed experts on the Geneva Conventions & the laws of war to say something, anything about this.

Article 13 of the Third Geneva Convention explicitly protects prisoners of war from being subjected to "humiliation, insults, and public curiosity", which would include being forced to wear the national flag of their captor in a "release ceremony" as an act of political exploitation.

It's unclear if the decision to change the name of "HMS Agincourt" came from Downing Street, HM the King, or a clutch of craven admirals, but whoever it was doesn't know much about the French Navy's warship names. Check out Robert Tombs on 'La Royale':

@PolitlcsUK @thetimes So thoughtless. Has the RN not considered how profoundly upsetting and offensive the name "HMS Achilles" is for all Trojans?

Looking at a modern inscription in Berber/#Amazigh, with its echo of pictographic languages like Egyptian (as well as Greek, Hebrew etc,) you wonder if it might be legible to an ancient Mauretanian or a Numidian like Massinisa, the king who backed Rome against Carthage...

I'll post some photographs from a recent trip to #Casablanca, Morocco (my first time there since 1970). For starters, the #Amazigh (or Berber) language is now used in official capacities. One example: The Administrative Court building.
