@kayakendall @tom_peters @gioser57 @KarinLitzcke The question is, how do these people keep getting hired/promoted into leadership positions? The only way to permanently change is to rewrite (both physical and in practice) this criteria.

@tom_peters Did you ever have a chance to read my book "The Facade of Excellence: Defining a New Normal of Leadership"? I bet there are parts you are going to love and a few you might not agree with. It definitely starts conversations.

@MarkCCrowley I discuss this in my book "The Facade of Excellence: Defining a New Normal of Leadership." Things won't change until the organization redefines the criteria for promotions.

@MarkCCrowley That is what makes a good Style 4 leader... Style 1 leaders need to demonstrate several different traits (and a few that are the same).

@PeterWinick He needs one more arrow from Unconsciously Competence to Unconsciously Incompetence. I have seen this happen many times. Great organizations work hard to become great then take their eyes off the ball and back slide (and probably aren't aware till it is too late).

@tom_peters @michaelbrandorg I agree. Was interviewing a person to take my place as a manufacturing leader when he started asking questions such as tolerances and thickness of coatings. I explained that I had no clue and that I trusted my team to know. He was shocked and disgusted. He did not get the job.

@tom_peters @naval The current promotional criteria is: How much control do you have over your department and how busy are you (work long hours, double booked in meetings all day, and being able to brag about the number of emails). This must change. The power of engaging people must be unleashed.
