This is insane!!! Just spent $20 on my lunch at chipotle. All I had was a steak bowl (double meat) and a drink. This used to be $14 a year ago. How is it damn near 50% more in a year!?!?
@JoshYoungblood
@JoePostingg
This is not a personal attack
@JoshYoungblood
but she was wrong and so are you if you thought she did nothing wrong. She staid way too long and it negatively effected the country, that’s not debatable.
Was on a call today and it hit me, we don’t post the positive enough of our profession
#TaxTwitter
. I have an amazing new house, new car, spare car, Wife, and two great animals…. I mean Boys. Thank you Accounting
I was at a CPE where it was stated that over 70% of accountants felt burnt out through Covid and 2022. Who are the 30% savages who made it through unscathed
#taxtwitter
? Was it you
@LoganGrafTax
or
@LorilynWilson
?
Just remember
#TaxTwitter
, we aren’t saving people’s lives. Just get done what you can by 4/18 and move on. Life’s to short to be stressed 24/7. Stay strong all!
What’s the best response to someone who turns in their information at the last minute, wants the return asap, and wants a discount on fees? Expletives are okay right?
#TaxTwitter
Why do people think they can turn in their documents 10 days before a deadline and we’ll start working on their stuff asap? Never again will I accept new clients during busy season
Is there anything more frustrating than a client who turns their documents in late, then tells you “oh I’m on vacation from 4/10-4/19 so I need my numbers asap”? Just me
#TaxTwitter
? Is there an AI for this
@JStaatsCPA
?
Am I the only one on
#taxtwitter
who always gets burned with good deeds? Offered to help someone with a business return and they want it done for free?!? Are we (CPAs/EAs) that devalued?
Okay
#TaxTwitter
, I’m curious has anyone added anymore unnecessary stress to themselves compared to me. I decided to sell my house during busy season. Can anyone else beat me in unnecessary stress?
My number one advice to all taxpros is join a firm, or create your own, who cares about people. Busy season can suck but working with people who care makes it worth it. Stay strong all
#cpa
#taxtwitter
@AICPA
. My firm cares and that helps
Am I the only one
#TaxTwitter
who’s clients send payroll notices and blame me for screwing up their income tax return? I don’t do their payroll, either
@GustoHQ
or
@QuickBooks
does
So are we ever going to hire these new IRS agents? I woke up early to call the tax practitioner hotline. Called in at 7:32am and was already told they’re too busy. Wtf
#TaxTwitter
Question for you
#TaxTwitter
, what do you use to track your to dos? I mean for everything. Call back Bob, individual returns, business returns, everything. Any suggestions / ideas would be greatly appreciated
Well this was a first for me. Client is owed a 300k plus refund for 2020 and they haven’t received the refund. Called IRS and they say there’s a hold on the account but don’t know why. What would you do next
#TaxTwitter
? Any help would be appreciated
Just curious, any
#TaxTwitter
peeps who are big music fans? I’m keeping track of all the full albums I listen to during busy season. So far, 14 albums ranging from Turnpike Troubadours to Deftones.
What’s your favorite full album I should add to my list?
Hey
#TaxTwitter
, help me out. Is it normal to promote an employee and not give them a raise? I say no way as a promotion deserves a raise. What do you say?
@mountainwesttax
I had someone send me a tik tok video about how to save with sec 179 by buying a Bugatti . I had to remind them they have losses in excess of basis so creating losses isn’t their issue, creating income is what they need.
Am I the only one who prefers hand written notes for TO Do lists extra? I’ve tried a remarkable and an iPad with notes but it’s not the same as paper.
Is it just me or are there others out there that prefer hand written notes ?

@LoganGrafTax
Had a client tell me today someone else would do their prep for 50% less. I told them congrats and glad they found a better fit. The days of not valuing our services are done!
My last few posts have been bitching / cry baby posts. I’d like to get back to positive posts. I had a referral reach out and say “You’re client who’s my friend raves about you”. Those are the wins we need to enjoy. Stay strong
#TaxTwitter
and please post your wins!
I’m today years old when I learned the IRS “where’s my refund” website isn’t accurate. Turns out when it says processed, that means it was transferred to another department, 🤦♂️! I’m dying
#TaxTwitter
Am I the only one who slept on the changes related to section 174
#TaxTwitter
? Just spent like four hours researching and this is going to screw my business busy season royally!! Anyone else?

@howard_knudsen
I’m an extremely unhappy member of the
@AICPA
. I really feel like they take our money and give us little to no benefit. Why they don’t lobby for moving the deadline, or pushing OT payments, etc is beyond me. The idea that we need to do 70hr weeks is insane and needs to stop.
@JoshYoungblood
@JoePostingg
The names are a little over the top by the sentiment is true. She’s either ignorant or selfish, I think those are more fair do you agree?
Let’s have fun with our misery. I had an “easy return” dropped off. Multi state s Corp owner. Two rental properties. One was previously a primary home and sold. New spouse converted his primary into a rental, now 3 rentals. Who has a worse “easy return”?
#TaxTwitter
My son just told me the new book series he’s reading is really old. It was first published in 2002. 🤦♂️I don’t like him anymore. Hope everyone else’s day starts of better
#TaxTwitter
@LoganGrafTax
I respect everyone who’s responded but I’m beyond disappointed. The clear, and true, answer is someone who Can’t Pass Again!!!! I failed multiple times while a coworker, who admitted to me, was a coke head and passed in one try!!!! CPA does not make you god
@stevenfcpa
I had a CPA tell me “I’ve been doing taxes for longer than you’ve been alive and I never report sales or vacation homes”. I responded that he’s been doing taxes wrong for a long time then lol.
@PurelyNumbers
So when times are tough for the employer, will they keep the employee on and ride it out or fire with out notice? This is my issue with the “think of the employer” mindset
Top of the morning
#TaxTwitter
. Does anyone have a reputable remote book keeper who’s looking for work? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏 in advance
@cbriancpa
The misleading part though is this comes from a fringe group not tied to the nominee or any of the potential VPs. No way any of this passes, there aren’t the votes in Congress to pass a horrific bill like this
@cbriancpa
@byron_cpa
I’m a libertarian and even I think the IRS is underfunded. This is beyond infuriating that people think cutting the budget is a wise move.
@cbriancpa
Honestly think it’s a waste of time to go after the large corporations and tiered 1065s. The majority of fraud I see is with pass through entities making revenue of roughly $1,000,000 to $30,000,000. So many prospects are turned away bc we see clear fraud in these clients.
I had a client request I do their return on the cheap, report both the Schedule L (BS) and tax return on the cash basis. They now want the BS on accrual and I need to adjust Sch L and M-1. They want this amendment for free!!! Am I crazy for demanding payment?
#TaxTwitter
Hey
#taxtwitter
, I have a friend who started her firm and she signed a 3yr contract with CCH, does anyone have any tips and tricks to get out of it? Axcess is way more than she actually needs. This would really help get her costs down. Any help would be appreciated 🙏
@LoganGrafTax
Partners are shocked when I say none of my friends or ex colleagues want to come into public. I think until each firm goes a year with no good candidates will they finally see something needs to change.
Just used public transportation for the first time in awhile. Got to say, was really nice being able to work on the way home and not think about driving! Anyone else use mass transportation into work
#TaxTwitter
?
@TailorCPA
Had someone with a simple return accept that it may cost $1,000 to $2,000. I was told that was multiples higher than he’d previously paid. He still accepted it bc of the value of our services. Raise your prices and show your value !
@adammarkowitzEA
As someone whose done a few nfl players returns it’s taxed in the state earned. That’s how all teams do it, even for playoffs. Best part was a MD player being excited he was playing in FL for a game thinking it was tax free. Had to remind him if FL doesn’t tax it MD does lol
Am I the only one who has to ask repeatedly for S Corp owners to send their personal documents so I can run extensions? One set of clients I’ve asked four times, four times!!!! They’re a great firm and a ton of potential but Omg this is crazy
#TaxTwitter
Life is too short to deal with shitty people. Keep that in mind! I told someone to pound sand today. They told me any cpa would hire them. I just got an email titled “I’m sorry I was wrong”. Yes you were!!!
@wifemomcpa100
“More than happy to offer these services but your budget is well below my minimum fee. If you’re non flexible with your fee of $500 I can let you know what services we can provide kn that range”.
@fintaxdude
For me it’s the IP pin. “No the number I gave you is right” no it clearly isn’t because it’s been rejected twice. Call the irs or paper file, I don’t care which!!!
@LoganGrafTax
For all that is good and holy please bring up like kind exchange for automobiles is gone and you’ll pay taxes on a fully deprecated trade in.
@LoganGrafTax
More than 60 and I hate myself for this. Probably doing 80 until 4/15 and can’t figure out why it always ends up this way. I love what I do but the craziness every year is the worst
@LoganGrafTax
The best is people complaining about new agents but they cheat on their taxes. It’s like , “you know you’re the reason we need these agents”. ?!?
Felt horrible yesterday so decided to skip the gym and sleep in. Got 9hrs of sleep and feeling ready to attack the day. This sleep thing is underrated, give it a try
#TaxTwitter
@djwindle
@ManishKhatta
@AfLiquid
I call Bs on this. More than happy to review your filing compared to theirs free of charge. My assumption is you took deductions you weren’t entitled to and the CPA backed those out
@tom_ealey
@LoganGrafTax
@LorilynWilson
Thank you Tom. I’ve always been a “buck it up” kind of guy but man 2020 and 2021 finally made me understand depression and how sometimes it’s okay to say you’re not okay. The workload was suffocating. I’m in a better spot now (2022) but 20-21 are my “dark years”
@SmithMatthewC
At the end of the day, if we keep offering new grads 60k to work the hours we do, this profession has no chance for survival. I’m a cpa, have my 150, mba, and I think the 150 is stupid. I believe you learn more on the job than in a classroom
