🚨New Pub Alert🚨 So excited to share my article honoring contributions of Black psychology scholars to racism & health, such as Rodney Clark et al.’s biopsychosocial model of racism and Shelly P. Harrell’s multidimensional model of racism-related stress.
As a Black woman who studies gendered racism and misogynoir, I don’t think the majority of Americans are ready for a Black woman to lead our country. Many of us Black women who have served in leadership positions know this from personal experience. (1/2)
However, I’m also going to resist feeling pessimistic in this moment and choose hope and optimism. Black women, protect your peace. Everybody else, step up and protect Black women against gendered racism and misogynoir during this unprecedented time. (2/2)
Universities and departments can save those hollow statements condemning racism unless those statements include a specific list of anti-racist ACTIONS they’re planning to take to support their Black students, faculty, and staff.
New pub alert!! So excited to share my new article with Dr. Marlene Williams, which applies a Black feminist & intersectionality lens to develop a model of Black women’s gendered racial identity development.

@acerezo

Important message: Lately, I’ve seen a lot of recent published studies on racism not citing large bodies of existing research produced by Black women scholars. Stop erasing the intellectual contributions of Black women!

This headline is slightly misleading. The article states, “It also highlighted another painful reality: Blacks and Latinas lost jobs in December, while White women made significant gains.” This is why an intersectional analysis by race, gender, and class is so important.
US employers cut 140,000 jobs in December, according to the latest jobs report. Women accounted for all the losses, losing 156,000 jobs, while men gained 16,000.

Appreciate AOC for speaking truth to power about a culture of misogyny. Let’s also acknowledge the way misogyny is also racialized. Intersection of sexism and racism on full display in the continued disrespect and mistreatment of a woman of color in congress.

@DrJulietteM
I would add that some folks in the field should resist the urge to even begin writing scientific papers on these issues if they don’t have the expertise. The psychology of race+racism is an area of study that has existed for many decades.
