Someone in our Long Covid circle died. His mum (also had covid & is in our group) called me. Complications from delta that catastrophically changed his body. He was in his 20s. 7mnths after infection. She’s been calling me since then, desperate for help, no one has had answers 😢
Being asked a lot for advice; if you're Covid positive, no matter how well or other you are please DO NOT exercise. Give yourself a good couple of weeks to REST. It's a crucial aspect to reducing risk of Long Covid. Rest no matter severity of sickness. Don't "push through"
I never got to have a choice on getting Covid. It was handed to me anonymously. There was no choice for me, no freedom or decision I made. "Freedom of choice" is an interesting concept when considered in the context that you may remove someone else's freedoms by exercising yours
Fellow KIWIS. Over the coming weeks some of you will test positive. It’s a scary & unknown reality to face. Most of you will be ok, for some of you it will be hard and for a few unlucky ones it won’t be great at all. DM me if you’d like support. We have groups & resources
Driving out of Piha yesterday I came upon a young man walking down the road. Given our road is long, with no footpath, with cars going very fast it seemed unsafe. I watched him for a few moments as I sat at some road works & ascertained he was not a hiker & there was a huge 🚩 1/
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mark Richardson for helping me “swing”
@TheAMShowNZ
(watch to the end for the juicy bit). Have been looking forward to telling him this.
I am now part of a support group of 5000 covid patients, I tell ya, if you could hear their stories, symptoms and suffering you would don your mask, wash your hands & thank the universe & leaders for keeping you safe. It’s a horrifying & nauseating read. Do your bit.
This is Sanjay. He’s a 41 y/o kiwi from my covid support group; “I thought that I would never breathe again”. This photo is when he took his 1st breath after 16 days on a ventilator at North Shore Hospital. He was fit, active & not at risk. It’s changed his life
#notjusttheflu
Feels like such a missed opportunity from our locally owned media to really celebrate & commend the teachers today. The heroes who went back after months of handling so much & still turning up. 99% of them. Utter heroes. Why spotlight the ones who said no? Let’s celebrate the YES
Diagnosed with covid-19 mid March. Here’s my cough 6 months later. A strong wheeze & inhaler use on the reg. Long-covid recovery is a reality. I didn’t have lung issues prior. I’m only 42. You wouldn’t have put me into either “elderly or vulnerable” camps prior.
#WearAMask
I’ve tonight received an apology from the head of news
@nzherald
for the article today that was published to look like an interview, with no consultation with either Sanjay or myself. He stated that it was not normal practice & the piece had been removed. I guess that’s a start.
I actually feel physically sick reading the coalition agreement. Having witnessed first hand the inequities in our system & how much that’s already impacting people, there’s no doubt in my mind these changes will make it much worse. I don’t think we should just accept it.
This is your friendly reminder to not bother getting into social media fights with peeps today. Globally they won’t understand why we are doing this. Don’t read the comments section. You don’t have to defend it. We all know it’s not about one case. We got this again. 🙏💕🤗

I got asked today why I’m wearing a mask, given a side eye of “do you have it?” I responded simply with “somewhere between 40k and 100k people will be isolating on Xmas day, I don’t plan on being one of them. Do you?” A good conversation halter.
I’m ok. We are ok. Our house is fine. Our driveway a bit stuffed. But we are lucky, the devastation is off the charts. Many houses written off. The huge slips. I’ll post as I can, I don’t have reception on phone.
As a matter of courtesy
@nzherald
if you're going to simply lift a tweet & make an article out of it, then promote on your socials, can you please tell the people involved? The trolling on your FB is out of control & neither Sanjay nor I were warned & it's HARD on us.
@ChantelleBakerr
This biological woman couldn’t. Whilst I’m happy for you, it would be nice not to be reminded of my failure to be able to reproduce. The biggest heart break of my life.
Bloody hell
@nzherald
at it again. I do an interview with
@radionz
on air and you turn it into an article without permission. AGAIN. No telling me, no heads up. No protection from your heinous trolls. What was the point of the last apology?!
Seems like this needs to be said again. Equity is about ensuring fairness by providing individuals with what they need to succeed, while equality focuses on treating everyone the same regardless of their circumstances. Amazing how many people don’t understand the difference.
A friend in hospital in Sydney. It’s so full that they’ve transferred him to a hotel nearby, where they’re sending a nurse to look after patients. Likely a whole week he will be there. 🤯 Whilst it will be undoubtedly more comfortable for him than the hallway he’s currently in,
Footnote, my daughter upon hearing this story encouraged me to write this tweet “people need to hear when stepping in turns out ok, too often we hear the bad stories only”. So here we are. ❤️

I am one of 99,000 businesses that took up the SME Covid loan scheme, a total of $1.6b was loaned. The interest rate is 3% for 5 years. The going rate in banks is approx 10%. Let that data sink in.
@nzlabour
deserves some credit for the enormous support for business.

Meet Alice. She’s 33 & in my covid long-haul group. Got the virus in March & still recovering. Lost her job. Used to love running, now walking down road is too much. Leaving home takes too much energy “feels like a five-month lockdown”. She’s anxious today - for you & your family
Please RT to help me spread the word to other Covid patients in NZ that there is a wonderful & growing support group. They'll feel less alone. One of the hardest things for us is the isolation; of not being understood & often bullied. Send them my way & I'll connect them up
Yesterday was emotionally challenging. A number of friends were posting quite a bit of criticism on how the pandemic is being handled in NZ. As is their right to do & from their POV it's just "critical analysis". As someone who has been hugely affected by the virus 1/
We are preparing a “covid kit” idea list for self isolating and home care, will publish it later today and share the link. Collated ideas from our covid group, from those who have had to do it.
If, like me, you make or have a say in the “work from home” status of your team, may I suggest you don’t need govt approval to do the right thing. Here’s what I told mine today. It won’t be entirely popular, everyone’s itching for some normality - but it’s the right thing to do
This is long haul covid. In bed at 2.55pm on a Monday. No voice left, used all my words that I can access easily today. Brain fog is a bitch. Fatigue is next level. I felt great Saturday. Shit today. Up. Down. Up. Down. BORING as hell. But I am a lucky one.
Here’s how to lose followers; keep talking about covid. Every time I tweet about NZ keeping up our vigilance, I lose 20+ followers. I don’t normally give a toss, but noticed a pattern. Hmm, feels a little “head in the sand” 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Another hard quote from Long Covid group “The idea they think they’re protesting to ‘protect your freedom’. Long-Covid has taken my freedom. No amount of protesting will change that. If you really don’t want your freedom taken away then do what you can to avoid contracting covid”
Alarmingly seeing too many people contemplating actively trying to GET covid. “Get it out of the way”, they are saying. I understand the temptation, but it’s a dangerous fallacy. Plenty of people with infections back to back. Please don’t do this.
COVID HOME MANAGEMENT KIT ideas! I'll keep adding to it as suggestions roll in. Happy to answer questions. This does NOT constitute medical advice. This is crowd sourced from NZ Covid patients who have been through it. Please get vaccinated. Please RT
"Stay off social media" the advice from
@TheAMShowNZ
for how long-haulers should handle covid-19 trolls. That would mean the public would never get to see the lived experience & NZ'rs need to know why they're making the sacrifices they are. No more victim blaming please 💩
Tonight I’m doing something terrifying (for me); heading back to London. 2 years almost to the day I left. Quite stressed, it will be a large experiment for me & my brain. I feel strong enough, but it’s a full facility challenge that’s for sure. Wish me luck!
PERSONAL UPDATE:
Just shy of 4 years since I first contracted Covid and I have been diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder, Polymyositis (PM). This is my 4th diagnosis since the virus started triggering genetic and immune dysfunction. Prof Warren Tate of Otago Uni has
Maybe it just seems it in the moment, but I’ve never been this sick before. So much vomit. Honestly, I think I bought into the “mild” rhetoric & hoped the vax would be enough. I am scary sick right now & it is not letting up. I’m sure it will pass, but this new variant has teeth
Finally, later that day his mum messaged to say he was in hospital, getting help & thanked me for getting her son there. I cried with relief. Who knows what’s ahead for him, but for yesterday he witnessed kindness that hopefully shows him that not everything is written. /end
Had the pleasure of spending some time with Sir Ashley Bloomfield last night. He’s kind & engaged like I imagined. Asked a lot about the
#longcovid
work we are doing. He told us that he still gets about 30 protestors holding “Dr death” signs at speaking events. How awful 😢
I am getting calls everyday from Covid positive close contacts needing guidance. Quite a few positive cases now are breaking self isolation & getting takeaways, surfing, etc. They are double 💉 & often believe “I’m ok, so why can’t I”. That mindset is why Europe’s in a 4th wave
Tweeps I’m going to need your support through the week ahead. Telling this story is already leading to Facebook trolls. Please feel free to jump in when you can. Only so much energy over here.
I have just received comms from

Driving to work & saw a possible DMV situ playing out on street. Realise I can’t do what it feels like everyone else is (just driving by), do a u-turn & have another look (busy road). She’s in a headlock. Call cops. They turn up within mins. Girl gets away from guy. Guy starts
I have zero tolerance for bullying covid positive people. It brings out the worst traits in people. I get people are scared. Thank goodness this one has been so vigilant. Now please hassle your mates to scan.
You know most people don’t even realise they have “underlying” health conditions, right? I certainly didn’t know that endometriosis made me vulnerable. This narrative is dangerous. Please stop it. My total & utter condolences to the family, this is so devastating for them.
Got my first “stop the fear and lies” comment from a “friend” (someone who I don’t know that well on FB). Told me it was just the flu and to focus on the positives in life and stop spreading fear. Right. 🤯🤯🤯
#unfriendandblock
PPS (lols) he did ask me at one point to drive him away instead & I made the decision that it didn’t feel safe for me to do that, & pointed out to him that the professional ma will do a better job of helping him if they have the chance to do so. He agreed.
That was nauseating & triggering to watch. I can only describe covid as terrifying & filled with dread. Thanks
@SundayTVNZ
for the important story. We must each take responsible. It’s not just on the govt. Ask yourself what you’re doing & ask your family to participate

Abridged email from
@nzherald
reporter just received now….”Hi Jenene…I was hoping you might be willing to chat about how you are doing now & put me in touch with others in the Covid support group…I don't think a lot of Kiwis realise just how bad it can be….” my answer...1/
Good morning
@SiouxsieW
- you’re a total hero. Thank you for your persistence to keep up the incredibly important mahi, even in the face of such unnecessary and awful opposition. We are grateful to you.
Only in NZ. Yesterday in Bunnings there was an announcement over the PA, “here at Bunnings we think you should prob wear shoes, not bare feet when in our store. Protect your tootsies from all of the hazards”
A great speech by Jacinda Ardern - highlighting her capabilities, both intellectually, politically, but also compassionately. Well worth the hour investment. She’s a fantastic ambassador on the world stage, with an extreme schedule yet still manages humour
My husband is an absolute glorious man. Today he did everything possible to help transition my parents through a hard day with dignity, respect and he’s just my absolute fucking hero. I cried, he held me, we are a pretty cool team. I feel exhausted tonight but so calm.
Yesterday I was taken in ambulance to hospital. My body’s having an extreme reaction they don’t understand & it’s making it hard for Dr to fix as they don’t know

immune system freakouts.Self advocacy needed to fight to be heard, but I’m too sick to do it. Need experts
A proud moment today. Our

study has officially begun. Crowd funded. We will get some answers for some hugely impacted people.
@DrAnnaNZ
you’ve made such a massive difference here. 👏👏👏
My dad had a fall today. No ambulances available at all (2nd emergency in 2 weeks at our house where no ambulances poss). It’s a scary time for health system. When I was there 2wks ago it was covid cess pit. So if you want to remove masks, just know you’re adding to that load.
A week in the USA & I’ve had amazing numbers of people tell me how much they love our PM
@jacindaardern
& the pandemic response. I don’t care for what your hot take is if you’re a hater, know this; she’s great for NZ inc. But don’t take my word for it, this guy says it well…
Escaped Auckland for a wee bit of respite after a big week of, well, everything. We arrived and our place had been robbed and ransacked. Total mess. Now I’m next level exhausted and literally can’t string a sentence together out loud. Brain fog means it’s word soup coming out. 😢
I can report first vax yesterday that other than a slightly sore arm, I am feeling super chipper and no
#longcovid
symptoms flared. Thanks for all the well wishes and support, it really helped with a hugely anxious moment. 🤗
Landed. At Airbnb and lying down. just so y’all know I’m self caring as priority. Sent this off to three NZME execs before flight departed. One response with promise of call to discuss Monday. Stand by.
Huge crew in Piha for filming a movie. Not sure what. Anyone know? Two parking lots look like this and they’ve made a shack on the beach too. someone said Jason Mamoa’s movie, and I’d like that to be true please and thank you ❤️😂
Man who has benefitted substantially from cheap human labour to build his empire, now wants to reduce our social system aimed at supporting hardship, due to an outdated, prejudiced view of who needs it. Why? Where’s the “do better” that someone with his means should be aspiring
It's my 4th trip to San Fran & it's always had a terrible homeless issue. This is NEXT level. People injecting, defecating, vomiting everywhere. It's not a few, it's HUNDREDS of people lined up on the streets. Meanwhile the city "cleans it"; water blasting/painting it over 1/
TOP TIP! Worried about the vax? Auckland Hospital Immunology Dept are running Covid vax clinics for people worried about allergic reactions. Get GP to refer. Turn around time <3weeks to appointment & really hand-holding people through the process incredibly well
I’m approving so many new Long Covid support group join requests at the moment - the group is growing. I chat with all of them as part of vetting, the common theme is unvaccinated.
Poor Chris Hipkins. He’s handling this very well. Media grilling is a little bit intense on it being his fault for two people not being able to keep it in their own pants.
Here is the lengths anti vax/deniers will go to; I just had to block a long covid group member who joined under false pretences, waited a month & then posted harassment to our survivors. Who the hell does that? These people are already traumatised enough. Extra vetting step now
I prepared for this & accepted that it may happen. I packed all I needed, have insurance & vaxd to max. My next week has gone to💩; a long way to travel to miss meetings. But my iso digs are next door to this ⬇️ which is better than a campervan 😂. Feeling meh but ok.
The tide is turning out there. Two VERY staunch blue supporters told me today they’ve supported Labour for the first time ever, as Nats have gone too far right. Climate denying was a concern. They would rather jump & back full power granted to get traction. Mind blowing admission
Ok the 09. If you’re doing sneaky friend catch ups, please 🛑. If you’re doing private parties, please ✋. If you’re going for walks with non-bubble mates, please don’t. I know masks suck, but if you’re out - wear one. Sign in. Your sacrifices work & we will be out of this again.
Can’t wait for the election to be over. This shit is horrific. Letters to dead parents telling them that the
@NZGreens
is going to turn up at their funeral (bit late for that) is just way OTT scaremongering. Took a lot of restraint to write her a polite version of what I thought
Two close friends aren't voting National due to the chance of Act being involved. They're life long blue voters. I think I let out a little bit of the breath I'd been holding, knowing that common sense is prevailing. The idea of rolling back & out ultra conservative views is 😱
Older lady in lift was wearing a mask today. I smiled at her. She blurted “I have to wear this!” I replied, “It’s ok, I’ve had covid, you’re doing the right thing. Thank you”. Twitter, she was shook. I reckon that’s now 236,576 people I’ve met in NZ where I’m their first “covid”
Mōrena Tāmaki Makaurau. We need as many moments of beauty as we can get right now to keep our spirits high 💕 Sending out calm energy today. Hang in there friends.
Today I learned French ambulances must have a lot of wheel realignments. All of the cobblestones. Bumpy. Yup, I’m in hospital. Here for the anti virals. Not the trip I had planned. 🤢🤯💩😷
Today I let all out home care, tradies & helpers know that our house can only be entered after two vaccinations. We have some serious vulnerabilities here & protection is crucial. Made a point of explaining the rationale, that we know they have a choice but we need this. 🤞
Daughter home from France. Hallelujah. She’s safe. Quarantined downtown at one of the flasher hotels, that’s just luck of the draw! This kid has had a pretty sensational year, all things considered. Now two weeks of Netflix...
Piha is showing how resilient it is, how empathetic people are, how giving, exceptional and just awesome. What a massive day of coordination. The volunteers have been incredible ❤️❤️❤️
A brief statement on Todd Scott following the intentional attack across three social media platforms. TW: bullying and suicide. I won’t be responding further. If you’re one of his mates, please reach out to him.
