Trae Young didn’t say jack squat after the way the Heat punished him with plays like this in Game 1 and the series as a whole. All he said was how he needed to grow and improve. He’s a hard dude, and I appreciate him even more.
This is why fans in markets like Phoenix, Atlanta, etc roll their eyes at national pundits. You don’t think Book was a star before this series? Five 50-burgers, 1st team all NBA, two NBA finals games with 40 points.
De’Andre Hunter: hurt
Cam Reddish: hurt
Trae Young: hurt
Clint Capela: potentially hurt
Miss me with all this. The
#Hawks
have been one of the most imjured teams in the NBA
Trae Young is not one of the chosen ones despite massively producing and carrying a franchise to the playoffs three straight years. Because of straight up bias. Size, ATL, gravitas, whatever. Clearly a different of rules for certain players.
ESPN Sources: The Hawks are finalizing a trade to send F/C John Collins to the Jazz for Rudy Gay and a future second-round pick. Atlanta’s largely unloading Collins’ three years, $78M for some roster building flexibility and alignment with looming changes to salary cap.
Trae Young and Ja Morant are great case studies on how society, generally, picks sports' winners and losers based on their own biases and then spend the rest of those players' careers supporting those initial stances.
The possibility of the Hawks making Trae Young available in trade talks this offseason are “very real,” per
@wojespn
.
Atlanta appears moving in the direction of a rebuild after securing the No. 1 overall pick.
This is why folks don’t want Trae Young anywhere near All-Star games or Team USA. They don’t want him playing with folks, networking with them, and dispelling the narratives that others, who don’t like him, want to keep him down with.
Incredible that a team that is trying to build around Trae Young would be salary dumping a 24-year old big, who is an above average producer on a reasonable contract.
Report: Kings exploring trade for Hawks’ John Collins, but not for No. 4 pick in NBA draft. How would Collins fit, what would a deal look like and why would Atlanta do it?
If the Hawks didn't think Jalen Johnson could help this season, it was a real missed opportunity to help the roster coming off of the ECF. It is either incredible hubris or a massive disconnect to end up virtually redshirting a first round pick at this stage.
Two big, positive surprises the Landry Fields era has brought to the Atlanta Hawks:
1. Getting Quin Snyder to join the team mid-season and skip this offseason coaching market.
2. Getting Dejounte Murray to sign an extension and skip UFA next offseason.
Reading a lot about Risacher's lack of shot creation. Fortunately, you have the
#1
NBA shot creator for others already employed. As long as the Hawks keep 11, Risacher just needs to be ready to make his open shots.
Could the Pelicans acquire Cam Reddish in a deal centered around the No. 10 pick?
“He’d be an excellent fit next to Zion and Ingram on the wing.”

Looks to me like Cam Reddish is about to inspire a great number of outside Atlanta, one-sided deal rumors this season. Suffer, peasants, we love Cam Reddish!
Really understated and telling how quick Trae’s foot injury, while stepping on a ref’s foot, was swept away when in fact it may have determined the championship.
When you don’t want to pay the tax, these are the results. Unserious franchises give away young talent for nothing in return because they don’t want to hurt their profit margin.
The Atlanta Hawks severely slept on how important Kevin Huerter was and now they’re paying the price.
Having a breakout season and providing exactly what this Kings team needs.
Lonzo Ball gets 33 points in a 276 point game total on 21 shots (17 threes) and he’s trending - Trae gets 33 on 14 shots and it’s ho-hum. There will come a time when the NBA watchers won’t be able to deny Trae’s greatness and it will be glorious.
Trae Young finished tied for 4th overall (with Donovan Mitchell) among East guards in combined All-Star voting, behind Tyrese Haliburton, Damian Lillard, and Jalen Brunson.
2nd from the fan vote.
6th from the player vote.
6th from the media panel.
So glad the Hawks won Game 1 and didn't waste the Trae Young game, John Collins historic night, and 70s Legend Solomon Hill driving the lane and jamming and also had a zip pass to a cutter for a dunk. Can't waste those.
Steph Curry, on Trae Young and the All-Star Game:
"I told him after the game that it would all come back to him if he continues to approach the game the right way: play with joy, don't let it build any type of resentment just because he's not acknowledged."
More here:
Nothing against Kevin Knox, who I liked pre-draft, but assigning all these minutes to him rather than Jalen, who they sent to CP even though they knew Gallo was hurting, is wasteful. Somebody is wrong, Travis who picked him or Nate who won’t play him.
There were only 54 players who responded to that question in that survey in that Athletic and it worked out to 8 guys TOTAL who voted for Trae. And now it's legitimized like it was a legit sample. Dumb.
These surveys are crazy. 🤯

Looking forward to the Hawks holding Murray for too long and having to accept four second rounders and an expiring contract that won’t report to Atlanta.
Folks are always trying to disqualify this man. There are people being considered locks that don't have the advanced metrics and counting stats this man has.
They definitely respect him in-game, game planning and trapping him 30+ feet from the basket, they just take their cheap shots and get even off the court.
1-seed and future champ Celtics need all seven games to dispatch dismissed, eight-games under .500, eighth seed Atlanta Hawks isn’t the burn you thought it was.

I wonder how many players in the NBA that voted Trae Young as the most "overrated" in the league sitting at home while he's winning meaningful elimination playoff games....
Two games away, scoring 48 in game 1 on the road against the eventual champs before he was injured. At 22. He’s as much of a Batman as we’ve had since 21 was here. I think folks have lost perspective and forget how hard it is to get players like this to Atlanta.
One of the underrated things about watching a Hawks game is seeing Trae figure out an opposing defense and then set about exposing it the rest of the game.
I take issue with this very common perception of the Hawks. This franchise has not been BAD. If anything, they've been a high floor, low ceiling franchise. Wins, playoff appearances, across any span of time (since 1980, '90, '00s, etc.)
Right. Because Luka isn't the one getting the negative vibes everywhere. It's Hawks fans defending who Trae is and what he has done who have to speak up because rare is the voice like Draymond who speaks the truth around it.
@jemelehill
John Mulaney nailed this in his stand up - he said if you’re arguing which word between the two is worse and one of them you can’t say out loud - THAT’S the worst word.
All y’all were wrong about Trae Young. You make excuses for other folks, but pick at Trae. You laughed at him, but he just laughed right back and has shown what he is made of. He will have a banner with his number 11 in the rafters of State Farm Arena one day.
Instead of adding players to take Trae and the Hawks to the next level, they started shedding rotation players and their big move was to go get someone who played the same role as Trae and they both suffered, as did the team.
Delon Wright's defense was a difference maker tonight. Absolutely froze out the Cavs. The whole team was moving better in the second half, but his work was exemplary. They are in the playoffs because of Delon Wright things. Cheers to him! 🍻🍻🍻
Only one team can win a championship. As a fan, it's as important to have a team you can root for, a team you care about. Travis has put together a team that does exactly that, while also being good enough to win a championship. Perfect.
If you have ever thought I was a Trae Young supporter before, just wait until this offseason, when I will have to remind over and over again what he has done for this franchise, on the court. Locking virtual arms with others over this. Huge battle looming in Hawks realms.
Let’s be honest. Everyone saw the Atlanta Hawks beat the Heat in Miami in the play in and figured the Heat weren’t that good because the Hawks are a national punchline for reasons. They were way wrong.
I have a lot of Miami takes that look really bad in hindsight. Nobody believed in them and I genuinely thought that was deserved this year until Jimmy Butler started shouting expletives at Jrue Holiday (?!?!)
Folks outside of Hawks realm still falling for the fire sale discussion. No control of their picks over the next three seasons means no fire sale. Sorry, K-Mart shoppers.
Vince Carter even said as much on the telecast - "Don't bring them all back in at once. Stagger them in." - Literally 30 seconds later Nate send everyone back in and they fall down again.
"This city doesn't want any young talent right now, they want to trade that pick and they want to get some guys that can come in here and help win right now."

Move with intention and boldness. Kudos to the Atlanta Hawks front office for getting this Quin Snyder deal done. Hopefully this carries over when it comes to the roster this offseason.
Hawks beating a really well coached, playoff caliber Hornets team, on the road, and coming back in the fourth, without Trae, Collins, Hunter, Gallo, Snell, Cam, and Dunn speaks to the talent and fight all the way down the roster. Couldn’t be more proud. Very nice win!
Again, I'm just glad the Hawks didn't just roll over and die. Give Quin a training camp to get his system bedded in and things might be fine around here soon.
Best thing about meeting the Knicks in the first round, especially this Knicks team returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2013, is that the Hawks series won’t be ignored by the media. Up to the team to earn that respect now.
While fighting off double teams all night from the Warriors. He’s an all-star by every definition except the ones fussy coaches, players, and media use.
Watching 7'1 Kai Sotto of the Philippines - he's looks like an 80's seven footer -- post play, slowish afoot - but I do love watching shot blockers so I am staying tuned.
Kudos to
@NBAonTNT
for finally showing that basket interference on that Jrue three pointer. Just incredible what is being overlooked on Milwaukee’s behalf tonight.
He's below average, but so is Ja Morant, Donovan Mitchell, DeMar DeRozan, but we don't make them be all things to recognize them, only Trae. He has worked harder on defense this season, part of his growth. Thanks for asking!
I look back at the past year and find that I am most thankful for Nate McMillan being head coach,
@TheTraeYoung
leveling up to national villain and super clutch superstar, and
@ReneeMontgomery
becoming a part of my every day Twitter and Hawks experience.

Ben Simmons says he wants to be the primary defender on Trae Young next time and bring his physical play if the refs allow it
“If the refs don’t call so many fouls, I can be physical. See if the refs let us play a little bit”
Can’t overlook the fact that Okongwu played, with aggression, throughout the playoffs with this injured shoulder and nobody knew about it. I’ve said the man is all business, this just adds to the ledger.
An interesting dynamic approaching Celtics-Sixers Game 7, per sources: NBA’s officiating game report shared with teams from Game 6 revealed a significant disparity: 13 officiating errors disadvantaging 76ers to four disadvantaging Boston. Those can include calls and non calls.
Thing about Okongwu is that he has been doing all the solid fundamental things most of the season when given minutes. Tonight he got the ball in position to score, too. Love to see it.
@RKalland
@bochurney
Someone asked Bo why Hawks Twitter was what it was -- in a snarky way. Bo's response was, "We have fun." It was the perfect response and I always have remembered that attitude even though I never knew him like you did, Robby - he will be so missed.
Ownership: It’s just a business.
Coaches and players: It’s just a job and I really don’t want to be here right now.
Hard for fans to care when the folks that are responsible for what we are supposed to be caring about, don’t.
Your 2022-23 Atlanta Hawks!
I remember folks somehow believing the 2015 Atlanta Hawks were the worst 1-seed ever after getting swept in the Conference Finals by the Cavs. Google it. Even after the 2012 Bulls lost in the first round. Folks just love to punch the Atlanta Hawks.
@Swarlayzers
I disagree with Giannis. I think his overall premise is right. But you’re the one seed and you lost to the 8 seed in 5 games. This is the worst performance of any 1seed in NBA history. The team of veteran champions looked rattled vs a bunch of undrafted guys and Jimmy
Bam Adebayo: We have to figure out a way to get me the ball. Some of the guys that had it going so we have to figure out how to keep them going and get me involved.
Nate has to put his best players for this series to start the game in Game 4 - Trae needs Bogi in there with him. Delon needs to play more. Do what modern coaches do and find ways to stagger, Nate.
Five points, six rebounds and a steal for Okongwu in nine minutes. All while maintaining position defensively, setting great screens, and showing the hustle all over the place. Just play this man.
The Hawks haven't had a superstar in a long time. There will be plenty of markets interested in driving a wedge between the Hawks and Trae Young. Here is hoping all those attempts fail.
