I just turned 30 today. On my 25th birthday I came up with the goal of starting a studio, becoming an animator, and moving to Japan. All of which I accomplished.
Since life is about the journey, not the destination today I now have the task of figuring out my next 5yr goal.

I wonder if people know that when animators illegally post work to twitter its viewed very poorly by the Japanese anime industry.
People may be unintentionally limiting their career opportunities by sharing clips of copyrighted anime or production materials without permission.

I'm replying on my personal. This is a myth that you can't live in Japan on 150,000円-250,000円. My first year in Tokyo I lived on these wages and ate out at restaurants every day... Apartments where I live (west Tokyo rent for as low as 30,000/month). Food is affordable here and

I did my first sakkan cuts on paper this week. Had to ship the cuts using my bicycle.
It was really fun to work on paper. It's a different challenge to do animation without lasso tool, undo, and unlimited layers.
Will be doing this from now on as often as possible.

On my last day in Japan and celebration of success opening the Japan branch, I'm having my final dinner at the Production IG HQ italian restaurant. The walls are covered in signatures of the greatest artists from anime ever. So surreal. I can't believe Tonari is in Japan.

I found the location of the original studio ghibli when it was founded in 1985 and I'm eating at the Cafe on the first floor.
It seems most people forgot this was the original location. The floor that used to contain Ghibli and where Totoro was produced is now a hair salon.

Yes. If the pay was increased, we would definitely see a quality increase. When I'm getting 4000y for a cut I try to get at least two cuts done per day. I would love to spend more time on cuts, but I've got to pay bills.
Correction : The industry is getting sour from bad layout work. Equally from foreign animators or japanese animators. But when studios pay 4000Y/cut, they shouldn't be surprised or complain to receive poor quality layouts from untrained animators. Don't blame the animators for it
