I made a lot of games! Salt and Sacrifice, Salt and Sanctuary, Charlie Murder, The Dishwasher, Z0MB1ES!!!1, who knows what else.

Everyone: stop conflating "over $1 million" with "infinite money," they're fundamentally different concepts. One buys you 10 devs for 10+ months, the other is an abstract concept that would annihilate the global economy.
Happy anniversary to Salt and Sacrifice! We're working on some new content for it, should have something cool to announce soon. We're also just two people and have had a lot of real life get in the way, so thanks for your patience!
"You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain" applies to games: you either put a game down with happy memories of it or play it for 500 hours and leave a nasty Steam review.
Wow! As the creator of The Dishwasher, some thoughts:
- this is obviously fake
- why Dishwasher? It's 10+ years old and pretty obscure
- it's spelled "Ska Studios"
- it was already an exclusive... to Xbox360
Got asked how old I was when I made Charlie Murder, so it got me thinking:
Dishwasher Dead Samurai: 27
Dishwasher Vampire Smile: 29
Charlie Murder: 32
Salt and Sanctuary: 35
Salt and Sacrifice: 41
Time marches on marchy march marchy march
Frequent question: is Salt and Sanctuary coming to Switch?
Official response: we're looking in to it! We'll announce something if and when there is something to announce.
I tried making Salt and Sacrifice without a skill tree because a few people were like "Salt and Sanctuary's skill tree isn't a real skill tree" and I stupidly listened to them.
Everyone including
@iequalshane
is making me put it back in. Work work!
Been giving more thought to a Dishwasher Dead Samurai remaster. This 13 year old, one person studio was in so many ways built on that game, yet it's vanishing with Xbox360.
Real talk: this artposting has been a therapy of sorts. For years I was told that my art was not good, and I listened when I should have been ignoring.
We've been working on a sizable update to
#SaltAndSacrifice
. One thing I thought wasn't great was all the weapon amps being basically the same thing, so behold: Timetakers 2.0.
The whole world map file of Salt and Sanctuary was 2.7 MB. The 8 individual map files of Salt and Sacrifice totaled 5 MB. The new game is one big file again, currently sitting at 3.7 MB.
It's all just binary data -- singles and int32s, mostly.
TIL the indie studio that made indie RPG Dave the Diver has a market cap of $16 billion. It's not a case of a $16b company funding a small indie studio; the $16b company IS the indie studio. Is this the Budweiserification of indie?

So nice to be able to talk about Salt and Sanctuary coming to Switch at last! Folks kept asking and asking and asking and I really really really wanted to be like YES YES IT HAPPENS SOON but I guess we're not allowed to just do stuff like that.

The comments on this are mostly hurtful. "Skip Xbox, Xbox skips you."
I released EIGHT Xbox360 exclusives with XNA on XBLA and XBLIG between 2007 and 2013.
Then Xbox shut down XNA, XBLA and XBLIG.
There were good times and bad times, and we move on.
When did "dead game" go from meaning an Early Access game that was abandoned prior to 1.0 to meaning a game that launched 2 years ago and has since then received a couple of big content updates and a bunch of balance and QoL patches?
~All my games are dead~
Geneforge 1 - Mutagen is now out for Windows & Mac! It's a unique, indie, open-ended fantasy RPG in a strange new world. Win the game with combat or trickery. Destroy the "bad guy," or join him. Make an army of custom-made mutant monsters!
Starting this thing where if you want the source code to my older games, just ask. Looks like online multiplayer-enabled Z0MB1ES is headed to pretty soon!
It's not every day that you get to have lunch with the guy whose game you pirated as a 16-year-old. We established that I'll be buying lunch next time.
This was one of the armor sets I made concept art for before implementing in-game. I made most of Salt and Sanctuary's art -- around 10k sprites -- with barely any concept art.
I keep running into this dialogue among elitist indie devs about whether student/hobbyist devs are bad for the industry. Feeling threatened by an 18 year old in pajamas? Make better games or find a different industry. Or... use your experience to help them?
Haven't made any doodles in a while! Changed the office around, which means I had to recalibrate my brain again. Palette inspired by the dystopian sky?
I will never get rid of this book. My introduction to XNA that eventually led to having the courage to release my first indie game without jumping into a fully custom engine right away
#SaltAndSacrifice
comes to Steam and Nintendo Switch 11/7/23 with the new free update: The Traitor's Tomb. Featuring a new region, new weapons and armor, new monsters and bosses, cross-platform multiplayer, and more!
Wishlist it on Steam today!
Come on, at least make an effort.
...for my Metroidvania YouTube channel?
...for a charity giveaway Twitch Livestream?
...because my cartridge got eaten by my sister?
Got the great news late last night that
#SaltAndSacrifice
is 100% verified for Steam Deck! It looks and plays great, and now we've got the badge to prove it!
As always, we crave wishlisting --
So uh this "friend" of mine is working on a game and accidentally made this crazy OP weapon that just turns every boss into red paste and the "friend" is having a blast with this weapon but is heartbroken because he thinks it must be nerfed for launch, what do I tell him
All the stuff in Salt and Sacrifice is drawn at a higher scale than Salt and Sanctuary. I just wrote some stuff to import Sanctuary characters, here's the Sodden Knight for scale
He's smol
Around 2012 MSFT asked me to sit for a taped interview about Xbox dev.
The Xbox One reveal months later had clips of devs talking Xbox dev. I wasn't on it.
Took me years to realize the thing I sat for was that, and my interview wasn't used because I wouldn't shut up about XNA.
We're in a phase of development where we're just constantly co-oping the game start to finish. It's feeling really good. Or it has worn away at me until I must love it. Either way, I have become consumed by the need to hunt mages
You know, I tried to update

' long-dead Instagram, gave up for now. You can only do it on a phone? You can't just... link something?
By the way, I just turned 40, this is what happens.
