I hope you will join me in praying that non-Christians who just saw that @HeGetsUs ad will explore more about true greatness, and learn about the authentic Jesus, "who did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45, CSB).

I once read interview questions a pastor search committee asked prospective candites and it included this: Where do you differ from the WCF and why? This makes certain "the Bible alone" has not lead the pastor into error. Further, they asked what materials the candidate uses and will use to prepare sermons, lead small groups, etc. If the answer was "just me and my Bible" it was seen as a red flag. Your point is spot on!

@praximtheology You are correct, panthers are cool animals. I will give you a pass as long as you don't pick the Cowboys, their fans are the worst.

This is on my reading list
I asked Grok 2 to summarize my book, Gospel Conversations: How to Care Like Christ. This was spot on. “Gospel Conversations: How to Care Like Christ” by Robert W. Kellemen is designed as a hands-on training manual for those committed to providing biblical counseling care within the local church. It involves deep personal engagement and growth. Here’s a summary of key points: Training Focus: The book is structured for use in a small group learning environment where participants learn to apply gospel truths in their counseling approach, aiming to care like Christ. Comprehensive Coverage: It covers twenty-two biblical counseling skills, focusing on developing relational competencies that enable counselors to connect with others on a deep, spiritual level. Spiritual Growth: One of the significant benefits of working through this material is personal spiritual growth. As counselors apply the book’s content to their lives, they gain insights into their own hearts, enhancing their ability to help others. Practical Application: The book offers practical guidance on how to conduct conversations steeped in gospel truths, helping others apply these truths to everyday life struggles, including suffering and sin. Core Compass Points: The counseling framework is built around four compass points: Sustaining(it’s normal to hurt), Healing(it’s possible to hope), Reconciling(it’s horrible to sin but wonderful to be forgiven), and Guiding (it’s supernatural to mature). These points aim to equip counselors to develop twenty-two ministry relational competencies. Interactive Learning: Each chapter ends with questions designed for group discussionto deepen understanding and application of the concepts. Theological Depth: The book is grounded in careful exposition of Scripture and sound theology, ensuring that the counseling approach is biblically sound and theologically rich. This book serves as an equipping tool for the church community, enhancing the ability to minister grace and healing in a Christ-like manner. #BibleCn #Equipping #BiblicalCounseling #GospelCare

Well, I do find him bombastic so we will have to agree to disagree on that. That said, we haven't had much contact and there is a chance we will warm up to each other. Dispite our differing philosophies, we are fighting the same fight and, I think, we have more in common than he thinks. Would love to talk. Nothing breaks down barriers and increases understanding like a conversation.

As I said in my comment, I admire Nick's passion, and I do. Further, I agree with you that it's important not to back down from sincerely held beliefs. My problem with Nick is not his beliefs but his bombastic demeanor and his demonstrated tendency to cast judgment without the full picture. That said, I am sorry about whatever it was that your loved ones experienced. If you knew me better, I am sure you would find that I do not practice or endorse the secular strategies that harmed them.

As a biblical counselor, I never fail to mention how unhealthy habits can negatively affect mental health. For example, if someone has a terrible diet, doesn't exercise, doesn't get enough sleep, stares at screens all day, doesn't get any fresh air...then depression, anxiety, general unhappiness...are likely. Could be someone's mental health issues have nothing to do with personal sin or other things biblical counselors focus on at all. This is, IMHO, part of being clinically informed. *I don't offer medical advice because I am not qualified to do so but I do ask people to honestly assess their habits and health and seek the advice of qualified professionals if they think they need to.
