@elonmusk @DOGE Because if countries like Liberia are to stop being reliant on aid then having a functioning and non corrupt tax system will be essential to the economy and good governance, but perhaps the US is not best placed to offer advice on how to achieve this - especially under Trump.

@TracyAnnO @no_jew_hate Quite. Can you imagine similar protests being planned for outside the US Embassy as the twin towers were falling? Instead there was a massive outpouring of sympathy and people queuing for hours to sign books of condolence, changes of programme at the Proms etc etc.

@holland_tom @TheTimesBooks More a candidate for the Juvenal or Procopius treatment I think, but yeh Suetonius would have a field day, particularly with the dynasty and burying the ex-wife under a golf course.

@nicolelampert @Baddiel Was the word Jewish people in the script? Did the news reader choose to omit it leading to the odd syntax of 6 million people and other people?

@francesweetman Not in a pen and paper exam with clean texts supplied by the examiners it can’t. I did both forms in my A levels and in the language bit of my degree almost 50 yrs ago so it’s not new. RE (OB) was much more difficult and more like University work than my English Lit (CB).

@francesweetman Depends how you do them. Open book exams in many humanities are much more demanding than trad exams as you can't rack up points for regurgitating quotes and there is more time to test your understanding and ability to critically analyse. Good prep for research.

@trussliz Open book exams, in the humanities at least, are brilliant. Means you can concentrate on testing understanding and critical analysis rather than just recall e.g. of novels and poetry or historical and language texts. Good step toward research.
