you’ve always been voice of reason in the increasingly chaotic and nonsensical dialogue that is destroying higher education.
When we were fighting for accountability for sexual assault on college campuses across LA, you were one of the few who encouraged our efforts.

A rare look into 1973 NOLA 👀🎞
My office was able to obtain footage from a news broadcasts in 1973 where you can see a group of locals enjoying snowballs🍧 on a hot summer day☀️
Some things in NOLA really never change!
There are currently street lights in the City of New Orleans that have been out for 400 DAYS.
This is ASININE. I’m absolutely floored. Department of Public Works needs to be able to explain why our infrastructure goes neglected for 400+ days.
Today we celebrate
#IndigenousPeoplesDay
, which honors and commemorates Native American history and culture.
Long before French colonization, many different tribes flourished in the land we now call Louisiana.

We are a city under siege, drowning in a culture of lawlessness and despair.
This past Sunday, several videos were circulated on social media that showed ridiculous acts of carelessness and total disregard for human life.
I don’t typically respond to the outlandish claims made by this Administration, but there has been misinformation spread by the Mayor’s Office that must be addressed.
The City Council spent $0 for the investigation into the misuse of $50K+ of taxpayer dollars by Mr. Joseph.
My office contacted NOPD about this set up this morning.
We’re compiling all the complaints & new
#KreweOfChad
developments & “innovations” for the 4/10 meeting to see what needs to be done next year.
Park and Parkways is doing their best but it’s Wack-A-Mole
I'm blocked by
@ConradAppel
but feel free to share this:
Due to my wife being in Nursing School, my kids were underfoot EVERYWHERE during last session.
Having kids doesn't 'disqualify' you from serving when we're constantly making decisions effecting families w/ small kids.
It’s important to note that this is the number of officers required to be at the mayor’s public safety symposium today, in the same week the city declared consent decree hearings to be ‘too burdensome’ on officers to attend.

I’ve met with Code Enforcement concerning this issue and they will begin sweeps tomorrow.
In the meantime, the position of
@CityOfNOLA
and Parks & Parkways is that any unattended debris in public spaces is trash.
My office & I are paying attention to everything being posted on socials and reports/complaints we’re receiving.
There needs to be a conversation about what people NEED for MG versus what they WANT.
If you want the MG Coachella experience, I’m sure Mobile will accommodate you.

Call me crazy, but I do not want to live in the Historic Airbnb Quarter!
In all seriousness, when The Onion starts poking fun at the amount of Airbnb's in NOLA, it means we should've done something about this a long time ago.
Let me get this straight.
The solution to decades of problems at SWB is *checks notes*: a panel of unelected business leaders that will likely suggest raising rates AND decreasing transparency is the solution to SWB’s ills?
Let’s be clear: I am more than disappointed by the lack of NOPD leadership. I’m pissed off.
Leadership would rather blame officers who are on the ground every day than examine a faulty management style. It’s completely disingenuous & insulting to the intelligence of the public.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but not their own set of facts.
Fact is Nyx didn’t even show up today to offer an explanation. That’s damning in itself. But Nyx still released a statement following today’s meeting.
Here’s my response👇🏽
Today is my 14th Wedding Anniversary!
When we signed up for 'sickness and in health' we certainly didn't think we'd be recovering from COVID together, while herding three children, during a global pandemic (. . . . c'est la vie?)

It shouldn't be this hard to live in the city we love.
When the city prioritizes
#ArkansasKarenInThe7thWard
and her block party over its own residents, there's a problem. It's time that we talk about
#STR
in NOLA.
🧵🧵🧵
Not only is this a headache for residents, but it's illegal.
Reminder: No one is permitted to set up ladders and other equipment until 4 hours before the parade. My office has already seen videos of our historic streetcars dragging tarps & other intruding materials.
Thanks to all NOPD District Detectives and the Violent Offender Warrant Squad (V.O.W.S) for apprehending the suspect, Tyrese Harris, in the Costco Carjacking.
Currently listening to NOLA high school students talk about their experiences with crime in

This👇🏽 is the new position on our crime problem, to victim shame, including victims of domestic violence.
The is beyond unacceptable and shows how disconnected NOPD is from the people it is supposed to serve.
All work was conducted in-house by my staff and the Governmental Affairs Committee. The only expense ever made was $366.30 to produce a transcript of the hearings with Mr. Joseph and Mr. Meyer.
This Admin is entitled to their opinion, but not their own set of facts.
The unemployment rate in New Orleans as of Feb. 2022 is 6%.
How the hell are we supposed to support the labor movement and fight for a living wage when the City would rather hire outside of NOLA than provide competitive pay?
This council was elected to promote transparency and accountability.
I don’t want private meetings with department heads. If you can tell me a solution in private, you can tell me in public.
If you’re going to charge someone $55/$65/$75 to park in your lot during an event, then you can afford to hire an attendant for security.

I remember being a college student when Back That Azz Up came out and hearing it everywhere. Glad we could make this happen!
Handguns, submachine guns & assault rifles were on full display as speeding cars drifted through crowds of people. These videos highlight what we already know: we have allowed an environment to flourish in this city where everything is permitted & nothing is prohibited.

I am offering to host a public roundtable with the City Council, the Mayor, the Superintendent of Police and the District Attorney to discuss what the plan is to fight crime in our city.
I don’t know who this message was for or who wrote it, but it doesn’t inspire faith or confidence that the party has figured out how to dislodge its head from its ass.

My grandmother was born during a time when poll taxes, literacy tests, & pure intimidation kept thousands of Black New Orleanians from the polls. The communal blood, sweat, and tears that were shed…
Positive news, City Council giving out grants to a tremendous amount of organizations and not a single press/ media group present.

STRs are destroying the fabric of our neighborhoods and pricing people out of their homes, and I am going to tighten regulations to protect our city’s residents and unique culture.
This Mardi Gras is worse than last year. The RTA/ Street Car/ ADA issues are especially egregious.
We are going to have to rethink enforcement and look at how we “staff up” for next year to address enforcement as Parkways isn’t equipped to lead this alone.
End of Mardi Gras means the beginning of Super Sunday series 🎉 Today we went waaaaaaayyyy Uptown! Thank you to the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council for your hospitality.
It was a bit chilly but the Indians were so pretty and it wasn’t enough to keep Uptown New Orleans

N.O. has a long history with cannabis, as the city was once a major point of entry for marijuana. Almost 100 years after marijuana was erroneously outlawed, we’ve been able to make immense progress in the fight for decriminalization (& ultimately legalization).

Residents are being held hostage, in traffic, by gun-toting criminals wearing ski masks in broad daylight. Were these incidents called in via 911? Where was the response? Could the NOPD have even made it through traffic to these locations?
I am completely against the plan from City Park Conservancy that would displace the popular Grow Dat Youth Program.

Tomorrow is my 44th Birthday, so my office decided to celebrate today after the City Council meeting with a pizza party and cake 🥳 I’m very blessed to have an office staff that is my family away from home!
Things in this city are not going in the right direction and public confidence in city officials’ ability to keep our city safe is at an all-time low. We need leadership with a unified plan and we need it now.
MARDI GRAS THREAD🧵
Due to the nature of our regulatory role over Mardi Gras, we cannot issue any comments re: any specific parades.
Under the new MG regulations passed last year, there is now an automatic review period post-MG to review the prior carnival season.

My prayers go out to the Landrieu Family on learning of the passing of their patriarch, Moon Landrieu, a former Mayor of New Orleans.

On June 24, 1973, a prominent gay bar called the Up Stairs Lounge was set on fire, killing 32 people. It was the deadliest fire in recorded NOLA history.
It’s unfortunate that the Mayor doesn’t want voters to decide on whether your City Council should require appointees to be confirmed at a Public Meeting where you can meet them.
We can’t continue to keep doing things the same way and hope for different outcomes. 🧵(1/2)

Now we can finally put this case behind us and have our District Attorney return to focusing on addressing the escalating violent crime in the City of New Orleans.
I’d like to thank the concerned “parade route citizen” who took the time to mail my office various samples of toilet paper throws from this past Mardi Gras.
At least it wasn’t used? 🧻

The Founding Fathers didn't contemplate a city department head having to be removed from their position for misusing over $50K in public funds for a political purpose, but THE CHARTER does.

@tchoupa_style
The Comus organization (along with Momus and Proteus, other 19th-century Krewes) withdrew from parading rather than racially integrating.
That parade hasn’t run a route since 1991, and Mardi Gras seems fine.
It’s less about what you say, and more about what you do.
If administrative officials are going to fly across the globe to promote how the City of New Orleans is on the forefront of addressing climate change, then they shouldn’t spend $50M💰on gas guzzlers.
Very seldom do you see someone move into a community with such a selfless interest in giving back to the people. Chris Olave shows how it’s done 👏🏽
