At February DLR Council meeting my motion seeking state aid to tackle broadband blackspots, along with related motion from Cllr.Hurley, was passed unanimously. I worked in recent months with Fine Gael TDs and Taoiseach’s Office [of Simon Harris] recently to ensure an objective on this was included in the Programme for Government

Kevin O'Higgins was the first junior minister, not a member of Cabinet, to be invited to attend Cabinet meetings in 1921. 73 years before Pat Rabbitte attended Cabinet De Valera - associated with 1937 Constitution - invited him to attend "I want you to attend Cabinet meetings and express your views on a position of absolute equality with the rest of us. If, in the unlikely event of a division, you, perhaps, had better not vote, but with the rest of us express your views quite freely." Passing reference to this given in a book on De Valera by @mcculld

I raised a motion that passed at a recent @dlrcc meeting calling for reforming current Area Committees such as with Municipal Districts instead. In Programme for Government document it's a priority to improve upon the Area Committee / Municipal District local govt structure. Meaningful reform in this context would help empower councillors in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown to better represent constituents. @nealerichmond @MaeveOConnellFG @CarrollJennifer @barrymward @cllrbarrysaul @eoinodr

A council motion I raised encouraging new more influential Municipal Districts within @dlrcc was passed last night unanimously. This could lead in time to two or three Municipal Districts within DLR - one possibility is formation of a Stillorgan-Blackrock Municipal District

I welcome policy in Programme for Government document today that broadband blackspots outside agreed Intervention Areas will be tackled. I called for this to be prioritized in the Programme (e.g. in Irish Times letter) last year & Fine Gael supported it later in its manifesto Fine Gael is demonstrating a strong commitment to urban areas affected by supporting its inclusion in the Programme for Government today
