I think the commentary team have got carried away with this Xhaka narrative. It is more entertaining for a viewer if he’s responsible for Liverpool’s goal, but it’s not really true.
This is a good example of a reputation preceding a player, and a story becoming reality.
As announced in today’s
@TifoFootball_
podcast, the current format of the show will change at the end of the season.
We’ve been off-the-weekend for 5 years, and now we’re ready to try something else.
Erik ten Hag, welcome to Manchester United, where the first three questions of your first pre-match press conference are about a guy who is not starting the game!
Always interesting when you stumble into a controversy you did not know existed. The number of responders here who talk about Mount’s “PR” or journalists “trying hard to make him look good” is quite amusing. What possible motivation could there be? Wild.
I am not an overly cynical guy, but there’s something so embarrassing about doing a “kick off show” at the Champions League final. Nothing against any of the musicians, but do fuck off.
Thank you to everyone who followed the Euros along with
@TifoFootball_
. We had a lot of fun covering every game - and we’re delighted so many of you joined us each evening. Lots of love.
🎙️ Erling Haaland and the Qualities of an Elite Striker

In my favourite moment of the tournament so far, Seb’s reaction to Saudi’s second goal was to jump up in surprise, sit down on the controller and accidentally turn the tv off. A truly great moment for me.
Trapped in a maddening, bureaucratic, broken phone cycle.
This morning, my new phone arrived. The delivery person was unable to give me the phone without a code, which they had text to my phone…
This was fun - but sincerely, the positive impact that walking football has had on the lives of the people I met when we filmed this is genuinely moving. I cannot wait to be old enough to join a team.
Very proud of my Uncle Mick, picture here, as he made his debut for Ireland in walking football.
It took him 70+ years to get make his international debut, but he did it! 👏
Last year, we visited the Paringdon Pirates in Harlow to play walking football. 🚶➡️
This year, Uncle Mick Devine is making his international debut for the Republic of Ireland! Congratulations Mick! 👏

Mr.
@SebSB
has today filed his 100th original Tifo video script. And
@TifoFootball_
is 100x better off for all that fine work.
Here’s an unflattering photograph of Seb to balance out the complement I’m paying him.
From July,
@Jon_Mackenzie
will be the lead presenter on a long form interview show. He will speak to all sorts of people about football. It’ll be really, really fantastic, and I’m excited for folks to hear it.
The main problem with time wasting, as far as I’m concerned, is not that it’s against the rules or unfair. It’s that it’s *boring*.
I am *bored* of watching people intentionally slow down for marginal gains. It is not fun. It is BORING.
There was a super example of the pressures on footballers on BT just now. The pundits, pre-match, are stood on the pitch discussing Rashford and his underperformance. Rashford is a few metres away in the rondo behind. A camera follows him as he trains, he can likely hear them.
I hate that I have to keep doing clothes washing forever. It is a chore that never ceases. It is my household kryptonite. My Sisyphean nightmare. The washing machine is my Tartarus. And all just to smell neutral. Where’s my award?
@ReubenPinder
I found that when I accepted it for what it is, and viewed it without judgement or expectation of it being something other than that, I really enjoyed it.
But then I am a very large adult human being and you are a tiny little baby boy, so maybe it’s different.
I've thought about it and I've decided that the best of all possible narratives this season is Unai Emery's Aston Villa winning the PL so from here on in... UTV!
The Allianz Arena looks like an indefinable piece of furniture in the lobby of a fashionable office space. The kind of thing you’re not sure whether you’re supposed to sit on or not.
Happy Euros day!
For those asking, the Tifo boys and I are not doing what we’ve done for previous tournaments. But we are doing some video livestreams, on the first off day after each round!
@GNev2
From 2000 to release of this Tifo video (2019) short corners in PL led to more goals, chances & shots on target than any other type of delivery.
They are surprisingly effective, although the general point is that corners are surprisingly ineffective.
Just get rid of penalties entirely. Nobody likes them, they ruin games more often than improve them. They’re super OP. And with VAR, you can get one for almost anything. They make football boring.
Look forward to playing Rocket League all day. Log on to Rocket League. Lose 7 games in a row on Rocket League. Log off of Rocket League.
Play Rocket League again tomorrow.
Brighton and Man Utd fighting it out for the prize of being theoretical ‘FA Cup winners’ in the future when the Twitter threaders work out which teams would’ve won all of Man City’s trophies if they didn’t exist.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino at news conference in Qatar: “Today I feel Qatari. Today I feel Arab. Today I feel African. Today I feel gay. Today I feel disabled. Today I feel a migrant worker”
I’ve never vocalised this before, but when I think about the calendar year I visualise it like a clock face, with December at 12, and then the year going in a big circle.
I just told my wife and she said she thinks about it as a straight line.
Anyone else do the circle?

Having said that, I bet
@Jon_Mackenzie
is loving this game. In his element, marvelling at out of possession. Our friendship is based solely on this conflict.
Regardless of the eventual result, the way this game is being played is indicative of the fact that Arsenal are considered to be the bigger/better team, by both teams.
Compared to last couple of seasons, that’s a pretty huge thing. A marker of all the progress.
Ten Hag looks like he’s wearing a chunky double Windsor knot in his tie. Only for weddings, I think. Not for football. Also I don’t know anything about ties.
When two teams are consistently earning 90+ points in the league, dropping two points on the opening day feels much more important than it used to. The margins are so fine, it’s quite something.
Imagine trying to work, if three media people stood near your desk talking about how badly you’re performing you’re job, doing it as if you’re not stood right there. I don’t think I’d find that easy whatsoever.
Had a brilliant time today with Uncle Mick, Uncle Damien and Sister Alice. The whole Tifo gang joined us in Harlow, Essex to film a special episode being released later this year.
