The IFD started in 1925 as an all-volunteer dept. Some say it was 1921 when a coal fell out of the stove at the schoolhouse, and it burned down. The dept. started with 20 men; R. V. Leach was the first Fire Chief.

Central Station located at the heart of the city in Downtown Irving has been up and running for the last five months. E51 has already completed over 860 runs, numerous training exercises, and many public education events.
