The approach for Lenduma is a balance between touching down with sufficient runway and not clipping the trees. You have to be able to fly a curved approach and learn to ignore visual distractions making you think you’re too low. A tricky one!

To those armchair pilots criticising the crew for fumbling their RT & taking their time, I would love to know how well you’d react to an emergency situation? Thankfully very few of us ever find out how we’ll handle it for real and not in a sim. This crew did fine and nobody died.

Enjoyable, hard work practicing engine failures in the world’s only DC-3 simulator today. Whilst I don’t fly the type, it has the same engines as the Catalina and so is invaluable training we can’t do in the real aircraft. I learnt a lot today!
