a point that very few of you will care about: trout mask replica is still a completely singular record because unlike most of the music it influenced (no wave, etc) it's not "noisy," rather the harmonic/melodic material used is very clean and precise but just extremely dissonant

10 years ago i had a composition lesson with tom johnson. i brought a score that was a set of instructions, prefaced with a deleuze quote. he read through the score & quickly crossed out the quote ("you don't need that"), a moment which profoundly affected my artistic life
