Having all kinds of fun on social media, so let’s keep it going with personalized messages on Cameo. You can find me at . As a great philosopher once said, “Why not?’
Some of you may know that I’ve been dealing with a personal medical issue this season. In light of this I will require surgery later this week, so following Wednesday’s game I will have to put this season in the books. Looking forward to starting a new chapter next spring. ❤️
Hi, all. I just want to send my heartfelt thanks for your beautiful well wishes over the past weeks. Recovery, however arduous, is underway and you have given me strength that is impossible to measure. I love and miss you, and as long as my thumbs work we will stay connected.
The message from ownership is crystal clear. The
@Mets
are all in. This year, next year and beyond. Nothing is ever guaranteed in sports, but there’s no denying one basic fact. It’s a great time to be a Mets fan.
Yesterday was, without question, one of the most remarkable days in Mets history. It was Woodstock South. The
@Mets
alumni were in awe of all that was done for them to provide a memory that will last forever. Proud to have been a part of it. Bravo to all, from ownership on down.
If you’re too young to remember Tom Seaver or the best of Dwight Gooden, make sure to savor every Jacob deGrom start. Do not take this for granted. His brilliance is, at minimum, generational. Rejoice in what we are watching. It is simply historic, and are privileged to see it.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind thoughts and wishes this past week. I’ve been dealing with a medical issue which is being treated but thankfully will be back in the booth tomorrow night. Missed you a lot and can’t wait to return. Much love to all.
This is impossible to process. I’ve been asked to talk about Tom Seaver ever since the news broke and I feel like I’m talking in circles. I’m numb. There simply are no words. I was privileged to know him as a boyhood idol, colleague and friend. Cherish the memories. Godspeed.
Would love to see 26 Mets players with du-rags under their caps walk out behind home plate and tip their caps to the D-Backs TV booth showing their solidarity and support of
@STR0
. I hope Brenly reaches out privately to Marcus and offers an apology.
The greatest baseball broadcaster who ever lived, Vin Scully, has passed away. It was an honor just to know him. He demonstrated that language still matters and forged an intimate bond with his listeners that the rest of us can only strive to achieve. The Renoir of broadcasters.
I’ve often said that the Mets are my second family. Tonight, you made me feel closer to you than ever, if that’s even possible. I can’t wait to be back in the booth, but I will be pulling for you all in the meantime. Much love.
With all the emotions and excitement from today, the only way to "put it in the books" is with a special message to
@HowieRose
. From all of us, thank you! We wish you all the best and speedy recovery. 🧡💙
Incredibly honored to be elected to the
@Mets
Hall of Fame. It’s an indescribable thrill. So happy to be going in with Gary,
@20Hojo
and
@AlLeiter22
and for
@Jay_HorwitzPR
’s special award. My deepest connection is to you, the Mets fans. We are one. Thank you for everything. ❤️❤️
The Baltimore Orioles should be ashamed of themselves. One of the best stories of the year on the field and they suspend one of the best young announcers in the game for this? The producer had to approve the graphic anyway. Kevin will be a star, probably in another team’s booth.
Here's the clip of Kevin Brown's pregame comments on the Orioles' recent record against the Rays ahead of a series finale on July 23. Sources tell AA these comments led to Brown's current indefinite suspension from Orioles' broadcasts.
This is how we know that Mets ownership and management are seriously committed to winning at all costs. Cano was the obvious choice to be excised. His roster spot was a redundancy, but that’s a lot of money for any owner to swallow. It’s a meritocracy and that’s how it should be.
On behalf of

@MetsBooth
and our entire Mets radio team, thanks for joining us for the 2022 season. We didn’t expect it to end this soon, but I treasure our connection and the ability to engage in some fun interaction without rolling in Twitter mud. Stay well.
A while back, I was asked what it would take to get me on Twitter. “Hmm, I said. A global pandemic ought to do the trick”. Well, here I am. What do I do now?
With all due respect, and this has NOTHING to do with politics, how can the health care workers of this country not be ANY publication’s “People of the Year?” They are our Heroes of the Year and anyone else is a distant second.
The retirement of Keith Hernandez’s number 17 is one of the most joyous announcements in Mets franchise history. Long time coming, but just perfect in conjunction with the upcoming 60th anniversary season. Bravo to the soul of a championship team.
52 years ago today, a baseball team changed my life forever. They instilled in me the belief that any goal is reachable with hard work and determination. Many of those men have become friends of mine, but when I’m with them they’re still 10 feet tall. Happy Anniversary 1969 Mets.
Best of luck to Steven Matz, a really good guy who will most likely benefit from a fresh start with a new organization. Always remember that he played a role in helping the Mets win a pennant. His charitable work on behalf of veterans is heartfelt and commendable. Proud LI er.
Terribly sad to hear of the passing of John Stearns. We did not expect him to be able to travel to Old Timers Day but he was insistent. He wanted to see his friends one more time. He coached first base and even took some swings in the cage. The Dude right up to the end. RIP.
The
@Mets
family has taken a huge hit. We are all terribly saddened to learn of the passing of an all time Mets favorite, Ed Kranepool. Through his many physical challenges in recent years he remained upbeat and smiling. A wonderful man and dear friend. RIP to a true champion.
This might be the most closely scrutinized physical since doctors tried to figure out how a whole Junior Mint suddenly found its way into a patient’s stomach mid-procedure.
Release the frustration of the division getting away. Beginning on Friday the slate is clean. 101 wins is a tremendous achievement surpassed only by the 1986 Mets. That’s enough to pump me up for the postseason. Hope you join
@WayneRandazzo
and me for the ride on
@wcbs880
.
Congratulations to the
@Mets
on taking the first step towards their ultimate goal. It’s a long road to the Canyon of Heroes and now the focus lies squarely on the division and step two. The professionalism of this group is it’s hallmark. Kudos to Buck and the entire organization.
35 yrs ago this beautiful woman said I do. To me. I made sure the rabbi said “no backsies” or else she might have DFA’d me a long time ago. She is only my everything times a million. Wife, mom and lots of other stuff she didn’t sign on for. Happy Anniversary, Barbara.I love you.
Thank you
@AndrewMarchand
for telling the story so well and for hitting just the right chord. If I can help someone going through this, I’m happy to do so.
16 years ago today David Wright made his big league debut and would soon become the face of the Mets’ franchise. No one has represented this club, this sport and this city better than David. Here’s hoping Alonso, McNeil, Dom and others compete for that title in years to come.
My goodness, that is nothing short of an absolute, total disgrace. They should be embarrassed. Either you’re major league or you’re not. Utterly reprehensible. Baseball on the radio is art and is the last sport that should ever simulcast. Serves no one.
This is new: The Blue Jays won't broadcast directly on radio this season for the very first time. They will simulcast the TV broadcasts on radio. I love Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez doing TV. I really do. But historically I haven't loved simulcasts of any kind.
This Girl Dad is “kvelling” tonight. Congratulations
@AlyssaRose
and Alec Levien on your engagement. A dream come true for a parent to see such happiness. So much love and best of health, happiness and success to this most special couple. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
These are two incredibly important people in my life. Dr. Reza Mehrazin (R) of Mt. Sinai Hospital is the surgeon who got me through bladder cancer and his assistant Hitasha Kalola guided me through every step of the recovery process, enduring my incessant questions. I am blessed.
Happy Harvey Day. The story of Mets history can’t properly be told without a full chapter on Matt. He was a phenomenon whose star shone too briefly, but at it’s brightest it illuminated a franchise and a city. I hope he gets a tremendous ovation today. He deserves it.
When David Wright homered in his 1st AB in Phila. after his long stay on the DL in 2015, it was one of the few times in my career that I had goosebumps as I was making the call. Brett Baty’s HR last night gave me the same reaction. Great moment for Brett, and a thrill for me.
Consider this. Since June 3rd the
@Mets
have played 81 games. That is precisely half of a full season schedule. During that stretch, they are 52-29. A 104 win pace for three months. This is not a mirage. They’re good. Just get in, as we’ve seen recently. Dream on. Dream big.
July 4th. Should be getting set for a great day of afternoon, holiday baseball in New York. Nope. Philadelphia? Home of the Continental Congress, Declaration of Independence, ring a bell? No game there today either. Yankees and Phillies both off? Today? Inexcusable. Dumb. Wow.
This is an absolute slap in the face to every single hockey fan in the USA. Coming from ESPN it’s no surprise. If I were Gary Bettman I would be furious and speak out publicly but of course, as long as the check clears, nothing else matters. Especially loyal fans and viewers.
The NHL is literally on ESPN now.
I pay my hard earned money for ESPN+ so I can watch the
#NJDevils
+ the other out of market teams.
This is just plain disrespectful. I’m actually upset about it.
Generational players leave legacies. When I was growing up the names were Seaver, Orr, Namath, Reed. Years later we realize that we love the sports we do because of the impact they made. Today’s kids will look back someday and Jacob deGrom will be in their pantheon. Savor this.
This is a particularly uninformed, ignorant and ridiculous take. The Mets have staged Old Timers Day since their first season in 1962. Eventually it ceased to be an annual event, but their fans have clamored for it’s return. “One up the Yankees?” How? Get a clue.
"I'm tired of the Mets trying to one up the Yankees. The Mets are trying to be the Yankees. It's corny. Mets do your own stuff." -
@Keith_McPherson
on Old Timers Day -
@WFAN660
“Twitter sensation” Howie, here, letting Gary, Keith, and Ron know I hear them throwing shade at my beard. Amazing how sound travels with no fans in the ballpark.
Finally! Last year was the last straw. The players were adamant and their voices have been heard. Thank you to all involved for at long last doing the right thing and allowing the Mets to pay proper tribute to the heroes; some who to this day continue to pay the ultimate price.
I think we can safely say that the
@Mets
are in really good hands. From committed ownership to David Stearns finding pieces that fit perfectly to Carlos Mendoza in complete control belying his rookie status the present as well as the future is really bright. Solid top to bottom.
For those of a certain age (mine) our entire Mets related lives will be on display today at Citi Field. Personally, the honor of serving as MC and introducing so many childhood favorites and friends provides a unique thrill. The ceremonies begin at 4:30. 60 years of shared love.
Looks like tonight’s game is on HGTV3 or Bravo, or something, so we will gladly welcome our expanded listening audience.
@WayneRandazzo
and I will be here for you on
@wcbs880
with pre game at 6:30. I think tomorrow is on Weather Channel+ but no worries. It’s not an exclusive.
For too many of my 21 years with the Islanders the franchise was in disarray and it wasn’t as much fun as it should have been. Enter strong ownership, Hall of Fame management and coaching and now look. An elite team back in the semis. Sure looks like fun now. Congrats to all.
Fisherman jerseys, 4 owners in jail, 1 a total fraud, efforts to condemn the Coliseum, annual coaching changes, poor management decisions and Brooklyn. Been some ride, but amidst the chaos, crime and Kvashas, here are the Islanders, one win from the Final. Good luck tonight!
This was one of the most emotional days and games in”Franchise” history and we’ll remember it forever, but it would have meant so much more if you were at the ballpark with us. You are so vitally important to the in game experience and it was never more evident than today. -41-
Congratulations
@WayneRandazzo
on a terrific call of Albert Pujols’ 700th career home run. Broadcasters live for the big moments and Wayne hit his out of the park. Oh, and of course, congratulations to Albert too.
I’m sure there are hurdles that would need to be cleared, but if the WBC could be moved to November, a player suffering an 8 month injury would be back in the majors by sometime around the All Star break. Winter leagues generally begin in December. There has to be a better way.
The Mets are one of seven teams contending for three National League wild card spots, yet 15 of their next 21 games are against American League teams. Please tell me how this ridiculous schedule where every team plays every other team makes even a little bit of sense.
I will miss the incredible rush that I felt when Jake was in one of his epic “zones”. He had hitters totally overmatched as they struggled to make contact. That adrenaline flow made me a better broadcaster. Still, it’s disappointing that he didn’t give the Mets one last crack.
Eight teams feel the euphoria of winning the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. One of those teams will somehow survive 3 more rounds. Don’t ask me how. The grind is incredible. It takes a toll. The Stanley Cup is the hardest championship to win in pro sports, bar none.
This photo was taken by a gentlemen named Dan Carubia after the final game at Shea Stadium in 2008. I was looking wistfully at my old “home” in the upper deck, trying to process that soon it would be no more. I’ve thought about those seats a lot the past couple of days. Humbled.
Today is exactly one year since I rolled the dice and went on Twitter. Please trust me when I tell you that it was pure coincidence that I took the plunge on the same date as the Mets very first game in 1962; so from the Marv Throneberry of Twitter, thanks for putting up with me.
I was a frightened 14 yr old in 1968. MLK, RFK, Vietnam raging, riots in the streets, books were written about that year. 52 years later, what are today’s adolescents thinking? My heart is breaking. My spirit is crushed. This can’t be who we are. It just can’t be.
This is a tiny thing, but when Alonso and Medina played out that foul ground ball as hard as they did in the bottom of the 8th with the score 7-1 it made us take notice. It should always happen, but it doesn’t. Little things lead to big things. This win was a big thing.
If Angel Hernandez is how we get games to last under three hours, then give me long games. A generous, pitcher friendly strike zone is one thing, but to miss a ball-strike call by half a foot in a major league game is embarrassing. Nothing personal. Never met him, but come on.
On behalf of Terry Collins, thank you so much for all of your kind words about our broadcasts this weekend. Terry provided a ton of insight, information and laughs and I had an absolutely fabulous time. Always great to reconnect with TC.
I was born in Brooklyn. Twice. In 1954 my Mother brought me into the world, and on this date, 38 years ago I met the woman who changed it. She lived near Coney Island, suggested a restaurant in Bay Ridge, and from that night on, “I” became “We”. Happy “Nightfalls”, Barbara. ❤️❤️
The folks at WFAN have asked me to spend some time on the air Monday to commemorate my 50 (!) years in broadcasting. I will be in studio with Evan and Tiki from 5 to 6 PM and then host solo from 6:30-8. Marv Albert and David Wright will be among my guests. Hope you can join me.
Don’t know why
@Noahsyndergaard
wouldn’t want to talk to Mets reporters in Anaheim. I always found him to be pretty engaging and thoughtful and felt he was treated fairly. Not a big deal but I wish he would rethink this. Mets fans would like to hear about his decision to leave.
I apparently needed one more day for service time, so I will hop on our final WCBS broadcast with Wayne and Eddie sometime between 3 and 3:20 today. In all seriousness I need to thank you personally for your kind words. Speak to you then.
I can happily confirm once more the power of social media. The Mets beautiful, traditional home pinstriped uniforms have been returned without incident to Citi Field. The players will properly wear them this evening for their game against the Cubs. Justice prevails after all.
Well, this Cano news gives the Mets the opening to move Jeff McNeil to what many feel is his best position, second base. It frees up more money for various pursuits and might well mean that Robinson Cano never plays for the Mets again. Shameful development.
I love that Senga acknowledged the crowd by tipping his cap to the fans in genuine appreciation of their support. It used to be commonplace. Now, unfortunately, it’s become the exception. Every pitcher similarly saluted should do this. It’s not hard.
Reminder....The Mets’ official 2021 season opener is on April 1st at 7:09 P.M. The WCBS Mets Radio Network will be available to handle all of your Mets broadcasting needs on that evening and throughout the season. 😉
Emotional few days for me. Then I came across this. 15 year old me, in the upper deck at Shea, visited by a time traveler, who said “This is your future”. That was wild enough. To be in the same NYM HOF as them? Utterly ridiculous. Feels like a dream. Thanks for indulging.
Edwin Diaz could have waited to test the market. Maybe his agents knew that there wasn’t a better deal out there, but it sure is nice to see that on the 1st day after the World Series the
@Mets
have made a major move. Bodes well for rest of off season.
9:05 AM. Every year as the season approaches I wonder if I will feel that same old buzz, same excitement, and whether the anticipatory butterflies will return. Happy to report that even as a newly minted septuagenarian, they’re back. It’s Opening Day! Happy New Year!
This one deserves a PIITB via Twitter. What a game. Satisfying split. And for those who think baseball should be all HRs and Ks, the Mets top of the 8th was a clinic. Hitting behind runner, SAC fly, Escobar maybe Mets’ best AB of the year. This team is a pleasure to watch.
Despite today’s frustration, do you really believe that when next spring training begins the Mets will not have assembled a team good enough to compete for a wild card? This is not the post Payson deRoulets or the post Madoff Wilpons. The resources to improve are there.
The Astros-White Sox game took four hours and thirty two minutes. The Braves and Brewers are in the top of the seventh three hours and nine minutes after the first pitch. This is untenable, not sustainable and MLB and the MLBPA have got to find some common ground for improvement.
The game doesn’t count for anything but it means a great deal to me to be back behind the mic tonight as the Mets play their first exhibition game of the year against the Washington Nationals in West Palm Beach. Join
@WayneRandazzo
and me at 6:00 on
@wcbs880
and the

app.
Favorite Zdeno Chara story. In his rookie year he took a seat next to me on the team bus. I was seated at the window, and when he sat down he pinned me so hard against the glass I thought he was mad at me. He said, “Sorry I so big”. Great guy and gentle giant. Welcome back, Z.
With all of those big plays and big hits in that hopefully memorable game, you have no idea how badly you are missed at the ballpark. Can you imagine what that place would have sounded like tonight? It’s so frustrating not having you there.
Okay, I’m biased on behalf of a friend, but with every ounce of objectivity I can muster I could not agree more. I sense plenty of momentum building in Keith’s direction.
Keith Hernandez is better than either Scott Rolen or Harold Baines, yet isn't in the HOF. He slashed .296/.384/.436, was a NL batting champion, NL MVP, 2 time Silver Slugger and the greatest defensive 1B ever, winning 11 straight Gold Gloves. Put him in Cooperstown... now.
