@theo If we were designing a SSN identification number system we would have chosen a very different format lol. Anyone with CS101 knowledge knows this. I mean we’re stuck with the XX-XXX-XXXX number but it still does suck

@bhohner @JeffLadish I could be wrong, but I don’t think you can synthesize reason by interpolating training data from books/internet/text generation output—It just can statistically guess what’s probable from this training data.

@kitten_beloved A lot of modern society’s rules and guidelines are written so strictly so entrenched interests can point to peons not following said strict guideline, so they have no basis to sue, etc All just annoying corporate mitigation

@NoPecansPlz @KelseyTuoc Nah dude it’s fine, people stay stupid shit all the time about women, about men, about white people, about ethnic minorities, about different cultures, about different values. Ingroup/outgroup bias exists deep in our psyche, it’s hard to outgrow

@bhohner @JeffLadish People don’t understand that exponentials rarely exist in nature, it’s sigmoids all the way. The million dollar question is what part of the sigmoid are we on—the beginning “exponential” part, or the ending “asymptotic” part. IMO, we’re at the asymptotic part

@obamonarchist @KelseyTuoc Yeah or he gets talked about by 10,000 strangers on X, including the fucking VP, and the shame stays with him his whole life as he continues to work 100 hour weeks doing unglamorous work at DOGE

@SarahLongwell25 Or he’s a genius adult who grew up on the internet and says edgy shit. You said stupid shit at age 25 and didn’t have it permanently persisted to an online ledger. And his situation isn’t in isolation, we can point to historic “cancelling” not done in good faith

@briantylercohen The VP wants to move away from bad faith culture and gracefully encourage growth

@a_just_john @KelseyTuoc Yeah fine, that’s probably a decent line. You’re arguing in good faith and seem reasonable. I think JDs point is to not give an inch to people arguing in bad faith bc cancel culture historically isn’t used ethically (that asteroid guy short story). Which I kinda get, but idk
