It staggers me how many racecourses still don’t get it why encouraging syndicates to bring more than a handful of their members Racing is good for our sport? We need racing to be accessible to everyone and syndicates are bringing in so many new faces from all backgrounds.
Not a single race
@UttoxeterRaces
today worth over £5,000 to the winner. In my view, they should not be allowed to race on a Sunday when they are offering peanuts. It costs extra for owners, is inconvenient for stable staff yet makes fortunes in media rights for
@arenaracingco
.
I have today resigned from the board of the
@RacehorseOwners
. I have little faith in its leaders to do the right thing for owners/our sport. They have also done precious little to support shared ownership in the five years I have been on the board, despite constant pushing.
8,000 people allowed at St Mary’s this evening and just 4,000 per day allowed
@Ascot
for the Royal meeting. Do the Government realise the size difference between the two?
@Ascot
have been done a complete injustice by these rules / limits.
I’m probably far too outspoken on racing’s funding problems but unless we speak out nothing is going to change. For all of us who love racing and who are lucky enough to work in it, we need radical change to the way racing is funded.
If Sunday racing continues then perhaps it could be permanently be for jockeys that have ridden less than X winners OR apprentices? To give those in need of rides a chance and to give the others a rest!
Only one race
@NewcastleRaces
tomorrow evening worth more than £3k to the winner - this is so wrong. Costs a fortune to get there for most and running for 🥜.
Very honoured to be re-elected to the
@RacehorseOwners
board today and thank you to everyone who voted for me. I am passionate about our sport and will do everything I can to promote it and of course racehorse ownership...
Conscious that to anyone who doesn’t know me, I probably come across v.critical/negative - I am actually far from this but I do care incredibly strongly for the future health of our sport & how it is financed. I feel I need to stand up & do my best to influence positive change!
I have firm views that racecourses should not be racing in prime slots at weekends unless they put on ‘reasonable ‘ prizemoney (weekend minimum values should be much higher). As such, I have asked our trainers not to enter
@LingfieldPark
@ayrracecourse
@WindsorRaces
this weekend.
Absolutely buzzing after Get Ahead’s debut win
@AscotInsider
@HotToTrotRacing
. My first time on course to see a winner for well over a year and the feeling is unbeatable!!
15 people from
@HotToTrotRacing
going to
@LeicesterRaces
to watch our runner in the first and we are told we can have 6 badges. Why can’t some racecourses see the bigger picture re syndicates?
@RCAShowcase
Great recognition of syndicate owners in Australia! In UK, we still have some racecourses offering 6 badges for syndicates and some racecourses who think there are too many syndicates! Time for some change once the virus is over.
@RacehorseOwners
@TheRCA
8 meetings today, 54 races to be run, 34 races with 7 of fewer runners.
@TheRCA
voted against the proposed fixture cut a few weeks ago and yet are still prepared to take the high horse on the Newbury debacle? How can anyone take them seriously?
If anyone who sees this tweet is unsure about the way racehorses are treated, trained, cared for etc then I’d like to offer my time to take you to a training yard and tell you the ‘other side of the story’ to the inaccurate picture painted by some animal rights activists.
For those having a go at the Mares race, remember what a race it was last year and what it is doing for mares in general. There is now increased demand to race them and it is crucially supporting the NH breeding industry which are the roots of the whole sport.
A horrendous day for the image of Racing. Gordon Elliott's name must not be present on the
@CheltenhamRaces
racecard's this year. The photographer should also be named/shamed.
Great to visit
@Southwell_Races
for the first time today. Only 6 racecourses left now until I’ve visited every track in the UK. Catterick / Hamilton / Hexham / Kelso / Perth / Sedgefield are the ones I’m missing.
I am seeking re-election to the
@RacehorseOwners
board and would be hugely grateful for any support. I have been lobbying hard for greater recognition of syndicates and their members and what this can do for the sport. I would very much like the opportunity to continue this work.
Hugely exciting to have a winner in my own silks
@kemptonparkrace
for the outstanding
@almracing
- a win is priceless but politically (and financially - it paid for a months training fees after deductions!) right now, it is even better than it wasn’t at an
@arenaracingco
track.
To me, it is maddening that trainers / owners have to purchase the rights of races their horses run in if they want to use them for publicity? They are providing the content for the racecourses yet it costs them to put the race on their website?
All horsemen need to speak out NOW about the
@arenaracingco
cuts that have led to these unacceptably low levels of prizemoney. It’s not good enough. Please retweet.
@RacehorseOwners
@BHAPressOffice
408 entries
@BathRacecourse
on Good Friday. Is that a record in the UK (or elsewhere in the world?) at the six day stage? Incredible prizemoney on offer and it didn’t get unnoticed!! Prizemoney matters! Well done Bath 👏🏼
Giving racecourse groups like ARC and the Sanderson racecourses even more power at the top table cannot be a good thing. I thoroughly disagree with the proposed restructuring and, despite being a board member, the
@RacehorseOwners
do not represent my views.
Amazing start to royal
@Ascot
! Accidental Agent 8,000 Guineas vendor
@Tattersalls1766
book 3 - gives us all hope! Just shows the sales horse isn’t always the racehorse..
This week I’ve been racing at Punchestown, Ascot, Redcar and am all set for Newmarket today and tomorrow - all linked in with syndicate visits / runners. Feel very lucky to work in racing!
Well said
@NandJ_WilliamsR
on
@LuckOnSunday
today! I must seem like a broken record in this subject so it’s so great to see it raised here. I spent five years on the
@RacehorseOwners
board but they don’t give a monkeys about syndicates whilst
@TheRCA
aren’t much better!
If anyone doubts the importance / impact of putting on decent prizemoney then look at the number of runners
@Sandownpark
tomorrow - fantastic! The
@SkyBet
Sunday Series is a superb initiative and the excellent pots are hugely appreciated!
It’s always amazing to witness the graduation of syndicate members to increased involvement in racehorse ownership. Only recently, we have had another couple of members that have bought their own horses which has got to be a positive thing for racing.
@GBRacing
@BHAHorseracing
A first stakes winner for
@batsfordstud
's Swiss Spirit as One Night Stand takes out the Hever Sprint Stakes at Lingfield. The five-year-old, who was bred by S Hoskins and Trickledown Stud, sold to Scott Dixon for 45,000gns at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale last year
What a start from
#Ardad
! Covered some very ordinary mares and written off completely by the market! What a promising sire of sires Kodiac is - a sireline made from iron!
@AlexBarnicoat_
Two of these so-called lies’ are totally unfair I’m afraid. Increased energy prices were as a result of Russia’s invasion even if via the sanctions / actions imposed. He was quite right to cease Russia’s has imports - fuelling Russia’s war is totally wrong.
Also..
I buy a number of horses in training each year from here to race in France but Brexit has halted all of that which means I’m giving less business to UK vendors / shippers and paying less in training in the EU - both sides losers. Ridiculous situation which needs sorting out.
5 UK meetings tomorrow, 33 races, 24 of which have 7 or fewer runners.
5 UK meetings Thursday, 34 races. 24 of which have 7 or fewer runners.
6 meetings Friday and 8 meetings Saturday.
Huge sympathy with all the nurses on strike today. It might seem small but one thing, on the subject, that I feel especially strong about is that nurses need to pay for parking when they park cars at hospitals. This comes out of taxed income and surely isn’t right?
For me, this is a result of these top races closing so early. £2450 to enter May 11th, £2800 June 8th & a further £1750 today. That’s enough to put off plenty of non-billionaire owners with borderline horses. We didn’t put
#SirBusker
in the Sussex
@Goodwood_Races
because of this.
We are not running our
@HotToTrotRacing
filly
@ThirskRaces
in the fillies maiden on Tuesday due to their poor effort on prizemoney. British Racing is not sustainable without proper investment / effort and Thirsk are not pulling their weight in my opinion.
19 flat wins from the 25 horses I’ve been lucky enough to have co-managed this season for
@HotToTrotRacing
(8)
@KVTRacing
(11). Each and every one such a thrill, regardless of grade! Very fortunate that work is something I love.
Something needs to change urgently with prizemoney
@TheRCA
. Otherwise there cannot be any alternative for horsemen but to challenge the legal ownership of the fixture list and media rights. We need radical change, not a little bit extra.
For any syndicator / anyone involved in syndicates, I can tell you the
@TheRCA
intends on keeping the rule of a maximum six badges after May 17th. It’s a ridiculous decision & a disaster for syndicates. I would suggest anyone affected make touch with them or racecourses direct.
Just home from an incredible day
@yorkracecourse
. Just to experience a day of great racing at a top track with atmosphere was good enough but a winner courtesy of Spanish Kiss
@KVTRacing
just topped it off. Still buzzing.
One race
@WetherbyRaces
today (a 0-140) worth more than £5k to the winner. Consistently bad prizemoney at a track which should be striving to lead the way for northern jumps racing. Participants deserve better.
I think breeders should issue a reverse contract to stallion handlers whereby if stallions cover more than a certain number of mares, the stud fee is reduced by a certain percentage!
Not only are they ignorant lunatics but Animal Rising are also liars - the race had already started when this imbecile got into the track. I think the public have seen the true colours of these attention seekers this week.
5 of the 7 races tomorrow, during a peak Sat PM time slot
@BathRacecourse
@arenaracingco
are worth £5,700 so the winner gets less than £3,000 gross (around £2,400 net which will barely cover a months training after jockey and transport). A disgrace
@BHAHorseracing
@TheRCA
.
Great point made by John Gosden in
@RacingPost
about the early closing of the Irish Classics. Yesterday’s Irish Oaks closed in October last year - hardly conducive for encouraging the lower tiers of owners to give it a go?
I’d be hugely grateful for any support in the upcoming
@RacehorseOwners
elections. One of my big pledges to continue the push for completely transparency and a fair split of media rights income. Horsemen / racecourses
@TheRCA
must work together but with full hands shown!
Great comment by Alan King
@RPWeekender
- trainers know a damn slight more about ground than the rest of us and if they think ground is unsafe then we should respect and listen. It’s frustrating for all but that’s racing / the weather we’ve had of late.
3 jumps meetings tomorrow with 15 out of 21 races having 7 or less runners. 2 of the meetings are in the afternoon and, between them, contain only 2 races worth over £10k (£5k to the winner) in total. Too much jumps racing for this time of year & too little money for prime slots.
Cheltenham a very marginal seat in the General Election between the
@Conservatives
and
@LibDems
. For any locals who loves their racing
@CheltenhamRaces
then they should be well aware of the
@LibDems
anti-racing policies in their manifesto.
@Globalgallop
@RacehorseOwners
Hi Shane, I am massively behind equality / diversity. However, this is a common sense issue - certain women’s sports are under threat right now and surely most reasonable people can see that a biological man winning a womens swimming race is not right.
How does anyone think it’s excusable just to litter the countryside? We have so many bottles just thrown onto verges / side of hedgerows? Who do they think picks them up?
#takeyourlitterhome
On my tractor in the glorious sunshine! Seems a far cry from the outside world.. however, loving all the togetherness that the situation is creating.. every cloud has a silver lining..
A great interview from Peter Stanley. We have the best bloodstock now but we won’t have in years to come unless we see radical change to prizemoney / how we fund our industry.
I’m not much good at making a profit when pinhooking but proud to say plenty have gone on to be classy racehorses.
#Fearby
the latest stakes winner after
#BerkshireRocco
and
#Streamline
.
What an incredible racecourse
@yorkracecourse
is. Still investing massively into our great sport despite being on the back of a horrendous year. Some fabulous racing this week awaits. Well done and thank you York! 👏🏼👏🏼
For interest, we are sending one syndicate horse up to race
@NewcastleRaces
tomorrow eve and it will cost £850 as he is the only runner on the card for the stable. He is racing for £2,700 to the winner gross which is around £2,000 after deductions / jockey fee should he win. 😬
So tragic to hear about
@patjsmullen
. What a heroic fight he fought. I lost a family member to this dreadful disease earlier this year so this feels especially personal given how much inspiration Pat had provided during his initial recovery.
23 races on the all-weather today, most of them poorly funded affairs
@LingfieldPark
and
@Southwell_Races
. Slightly better funding
@kemptonparkrace
thankfully but that defeats the point. It’s meant to be the turf season?
Thank you
@kemptonparkrace
for making such an effort towards owners at today’s meeting. Lots of friendly / helpful people and fillet of beef for supper too.. 😋👏🏼👏🏼
Perhaps City Of Troy is the second coming but his dam didn’t train on and most of his siblings didn’t either so 8-11 next weekend is plenty short enough for me.
Fantastic to see the
@TheJockeyClub
boost to prizemoney this autumn. It is hugely appreciated by all horsemen and I’m sure will prove a good investment for the future retention of owners. 👏🏼👏🏼
Great to see a June foal win the
@CazooUK
Oaks
@EpsomRacecourse
! Late foals seem to punch above their weight and it surely makes sense - healthier / more natural time to foal etc?
Has to be a red alert warning for Racing
@BHAPressOffice
when you see such a major domestic owner like
@twmorley
selling so many
@Tattersalls1766
this week. Field sizes and the fixture list could be under major threat going forwards I fear.
As Peter Scargill says in today’s
@RacingPost
, if / when racing resumes behinds closed doors, we must make sure all owners are given free viewing access of their horses running.
@RacehorseOwners
So on the basis of
@Chepstow_Racing
’s shocking prize money this Friday evening, totalling just £43,300, we can assume, from the below, that their total media rights income for this meeting will be around £130k. It’s nothing short of a disgrace,
@arenaracingco
ripping off racing.
Well done
@GoffsUK
last week & today
@tattsascot
on their efforts this past week. It is a pretty tough time selling horses right now with supply outstripping demand but there has been a lot of effort / energy at making the best of it. Hopefully breeders can ride out the storm.🤞🏻
Annual members and some general public allowed back onto racecourses
@TheRCA
yet only four owners are allowed to go per horse - incredibly frustrating for syndicates/racing clubs.
