Absolutely wild to see Catholics in the replies to this spouting the same nativist, know nothing propaganda that was hurled at our own ancestors a hundred years ago.
Just to clarify, the ties of common baptism and faith are stronger, more important, and more real than ties of nationality and race. The waters of baptism are thicker than blood.

My information comes from the former pastor of Springfield, who just retired this July. He speaks very warmly of the Haitian community and their faith.
Only 6% of the population is homeschooled, but homeschoolers account for 10% of new diocesan priests. That number is increasing and might be 15% in five years. Sounds like San Diego wants to dry up their vocations.
“Parish run schools and religious education programs are the primary means by which the Church accomplishes its teaching mission for children and young people.”
@Jclearfield2
There is definitely some syncretism in that population, but they are baptized Catholics, are in the parish territory regardless of how they got there, and have a need for pastoral guidance and the sacraments. There's some beautiful and lively faith, too.
Reminder: the Catholic Church teaches that IVF (and any form of artificial conception) is intrinsically immoral. It's completely opposed to human dignity. I just wrote an article about this in

It is so incredibly cool that Jesus still shows up in the Eucharist even when I'm too tired to pray the Mass as devoutly as I'd like to. He's so incredibly generous.❤️🔥
There's a temptation in the spiritual life to seek special things - some special prayer that's going to bring you graces you didn't have before, some ancient fasting practice that's going to bring discipline back to the Church, some special experience on a retreat... and so on

Humbly receiving the sacraments, doing your best to reject sin, and accepting your situations and sufferings as a participation in Christ's cross will bring infinitely more peace and joy and holiness than any amount of "special" prayers or exorcisms or anything you could do.
@Jclearfield2
A pastor's obligations to the souls under his care, and the spiritual benefits to a parish of the prayers of the poor, are not worldly criteria.
This is ultimately a manifestation of pride: "The normal prayers might be good enough for other people, but because I have some special need, I need something more."
St. Paul condemns this prideful desire for the special in our first reading today. He proclaimed nothing but Jesus crucified. All moral theology, all spiritual practice, every grace comes from Christ on the cross. There's nothing special beyond that to be had.
In Ezekiel 24, there's a reference to "customary bread" for mourning. Like, a special bread you eat when you lose a loved one. I thought that was really weird, but then I remembered this:
Forcing insurance companies to cover IVF, or paying for it with government money, is functionally equivalent to what we've been objecting to about government funded abortions or contraceptive mandates. No good Catholic could support this in good conscience.
"Father, 10% isn't that much. You're exaggerating." We're not talking huge numbers - when every diocese is hurting for vocations and priests, losing 1 out of every 10 is a death sentence. And if homeschool is producing more vocations, there's a reason and we should learn from it.
