Ever wondered why we need respiratory supercomplexes? New findings from our lab, in collaboration with @LettsScience, show how a specialized supercomplex - the SC-XL - can help mitochondria overcome some respiratory defects & provide cardioprotective benefits. Studying #Microproteins (i.e. Brawnin) led to this amazing discovery, a testament to the power of small!

Hi-Lites : -COMA, COMB, and COMC complexes are required for ETC Complex III assembly -COMB comprises of microproteins BRAWNIN and SMIM4 and promotes nascent CIII stability -COMB tunes CIII levels according to external cues, allowing cells to sense and respond to mito stress
