Very moving act of condolence for the victims of last week's container tragedy in Grays this morning. Prime Minister
@BorisJohnson
& Home Secretary
@patel4witham
joined us to pay respects, express support for families & loved ones, & our united determination for justice for them
My thanks to Essex residents, who have endorsed my plan to make Essex safer - straight through on the first ballot, and with a majority of 135,000. Thanks also to all who helped with the campaign.
Good to talk with Priti Patel, the new Home Secretary, about how we can recruit our share of the new 20,000 police officers here in Essex. The investment will be a major boost to our force's strength.
#Hirst4Essex
This morning the Chief Constable and I paid our respects to Sir David alongside the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, Leader of the Opposition, Speaker of the House, James Duddridge MP and Mayor Cllr Margaret Borton. An outstanding public servant and a friend to his community.
Good news today, we have won extra funding from the Home Office for additional Tasers in Essex. Thank you
@patel4witham
for the on-going investment in policing!
Such a great day for another 73 officers passing out as members of Essex Police. A privilege to be able to welcome them to the force on behalf of the people of Essex. Thanks too to Jonathan MacDonald for organising, and guests of honour LtCol Caldwell and Home Sec
@patel4witham
This government funding will take the total number Essex Police by which can expand to over 500. We are already growing by 368 from the support given by local council tax payers.
76 more join the team
@EssexPoliceUK
after completing 19 weeks adapted, socially distanced & online training. Proud day for them, for Essex & for the Force. Great to get out in the 🌞 as well! Congratulations all & thx to a ‘can do’ training team.

officers and staff after a busy weekend. I know this week is also placing unprecedented demands on you with the next England game tonight on top of a busy workload and hot weather. Thank you to you and your families.
Nomination papers for the PFCC election accepted! With all the investments we have made and the strategy set and working, I would love to see that through for next four years and make sure we get crime down and make our communities safer. Please may I have your support!
A real milestone: Today Essex Police officially is the biggest and strongest it has ever been. 74 new officers passed out, bringing the total to 3,686 - over 800 more than six years ago. Thank you all for what you do to keep our communities safe.
A tough day for criminals, and a great day for the public in our area as we crack down on drugs and organised crime. Thanks to
@NCA_UK
and
@EssexPoliceUK
for the successes they have achieved today - the result of months of hard work.
As
@ECFRS
crews, officers, fire control and support teams continue to work extremely hard, my thanks to them all, and also to their families, many of whom will have had to change their plans at short notice over the last few weeks so that their loved ones can keep us safe.
Fantastic new intake of 55 recruits to Essex Police passing out today - in the presence of "tri-paw" retired police dog Baloo. Rain and wind couldn't spoil the great atmosphere.
The death of 39 people in a container in Thurrock is a tragic event. We must think of the victims, their loved ones and families. It is important that the police have the space and time to conduct a thorough investigation, so that they all can have justice.
Six outstanding individuals from Essex Police are recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. They've made a significant contribution to community safety in our county. It is a pleasure to see them get this recognition and I would like to thank them on behalf of the public
What a glorious day for our parade of Volunteer Police Cadets! We now have nearly 400 young people involved, supporting the community and learning new skills. A splendid turn-out - well done everyone!
Great to see the extension to stop & search powers announced by the govt this morning. Stop & search is a vital part of what we need to do to get violence off the streets of Essex - alongside cracking down on gang leaders, and supporting young people with guidance and mentoring.
📢 Essex will receive £1.16m for specialist teams to tackle violent crime.

is one of the 18 areas selected for the funding, receiving a share of the £35 million total.

Met up with Larry the Downing St cat yesterday. Also had some time with PM and Home Secretary to discuss funding and deployment of the 20,000 new police officers the government is asking forces to recruit. A great challenge to have.
@Hirst4EssexPFCC

Here he is with his dog Berrie to explain why it is important for you to take part.
Fantastic to have 12 new recruits pass out as new fire fighters for Essex County Fire & Rescue - the first new intake for nine years! Well done and welcome to them all.
Crime in Essex is coming down in key areas. Since 2016 we have halved murder, cut burglary 40% and anti-social behaviour 70%. We can do more: use our record number of officers to protect women & girls and tackle car theft. Please see my manifesto on
Very valuable meeting with Tiptree residents this evening. Together with Priti Patel MP and Ch/Insp Rob Huddleston we listened to resident's concerns and gave reassurance on the successful action taken against antisocial behaviour from a group of youths, and increasing resources.
Essex Police Awards this evening - an amazing rosta of officers and staff who have made outstanding and brave deeds and achievements in the course of their daily work.
At the unveiling of the National Police K9 Memorial by Commissioner Cressida Dick. What a great tribute to the contribution and sacrifice made by service dogs and the work of their handlers - and well done Paul for making it happen!
Outrageous behaviour from a group of irresponsible people last night, holding a rave in an empty church! They clearly have no respect for themselves, for others, or for their community. So glad to see Essex Police break it up and issue fines.
A very fond farewell party for our departing Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh
@CCEssexPolice
this evening - great memories, good friendship, and best wishes for the future.
Remote working with the team today - near business as usual, working at supporting partners and making sure our services to victims and the vulnerable are maintained. Great team, great technology!
Out on patrol this evening in the South of the county - thankfully this collapsed person has been found and helped in good time. Great response from both police and ambulance.
Devastating news of the death of Special Constable Toby Speller. The thoughts of all at Essex Police Federation and the officers we represent are with his family, friends and close colleagues
@EPMarine
Toughening up on crime and criminals: this is a landmark bill which will strengthen the law around unlawful incursions, end early release of dangerous offenders, and improve community sentencing

Out with the local policing teams last night in Southend deploying the knife arches in a new tactic. Very successful - not least because of the great reaction from the public. Kids wanting to run through the arch, lots of compliments, people asking for the same in their area.
A privilege to be able to attend this morning's memorial service for those who have given their lives in service for Essex Police, and to lay flowers in gratitude on behalf of the communities they serve.

A great event today with strong support from Essex MPs and PCCs from across the country. We had the opportunity to discuss the proposed tightening of the laws on knives with Policing Minister

and hear from police officers who have to deal with these awful crimes.
@BJH251

An honour to be able to introduce Essex County Fire & Rescue Service Long Service Awards this evening, and thank the fifteen officers for their amazing public service
Really pleased to have the Police, Fire & Crime Panel's unanimous support for the appointment of BJ Harrington as new Chief Constable of Essex - thanks to CC Stephen Kavanagh for his exceptional service and best wishes for his retirement in October.
Very pleased to have been re-selected as the Conservative candidate for the next Essex PFCC elections. I aim to continue our investment in preventing harm, protect vulnerable people and get crime down. Safe communities are the bedrock of prosperity and wellbeing for everyone.
The Final! Well done to all who took a part in the Essex Police and Fire & Rescue Cadet Games, and thank you to the organisers and supporters.

Let's focus on what
@pritipatel
has achieved as Home Secretary so far: the largest investment in Policing in ten years, an Uplift programme to deliver 20,000 new cops, now ahead of schedule, & a Policing response to COVId-19 endorsed by over 80% of residents here. Crime is down.
Great to be out in Harlow this morning with
@halfon4harlowMP
and the team from Harlow constituency. Lots of people wanting to speak to Rob and thank him for what he has done for the town.
Essex's share of the VRU funding is £1.16m. Together with our funding & that from local partners we'll invest £2.5m in our Violence & Vulnerability Unit, to provide activities & mentoring for young people, beside the surge in police intervention. Powerful!
Exciting meeting this morning with Home Secretary
@patel4witham
and Essex Chambers of Commerce this morning, discussing our Business Crime Strategy and new ways of working together. There is a lot of smart stuff which will make a difference.
So good that these new officers are stepping forward to serve their communities - and that, with them, we have hit our five year expansion target of 900 more officers! Crime is being brought down.
Very useful public meeting in Maldon this evening, with some clear and straightforward feedback. Thank you to the residents and councillors who brought their concerns, and to Ch/Insp Parker, Mr. Keys, Mr. Clarke and Ms. Gardner for helping answer.
The scenes in Bristol tonight are completely unacceptable.
Our brave and hard-working police officers often put themselves in harms way to protect us all.
My thoughts are with all those police officers injured and touched by this violence.
A honour today to attend the Lord Mayor's Show as guest ot the Rt Hon Alderman Vincent Keaveny, Lord Mayor of London. A celebration of so many charities and so much public service - truly uplifting!
PCCs in action with
@kitmalthouse
today. Great conversation covered Officer uplift, county lines, surge funding DA, school exclusions, stop & search, technology, alcohol tagging, cultural change, fire break, cadets, criminal justice system, youth offending, offender management.
A real honour to be here and support the brave members of the public at this evening's Police Public Bravery Awards. A standing ovation for our Gold Medal Winner from Essex
Today the government has confirmed it's hit its 20,000 officer Police Uplift target. That is over 900 more officers for Essex, including 450 from local resources. Crime is now falling: murder and burglary halved since 2016 and ASB down 60%. More to do as new cops hit the streets.
Very sad to hear the news of Prince Philip's passing; a great man who will be very sadly missed. My sympathy and condolences to Her Majesty, the Royal Family and all who knew and loved him.
A real flavour of the challenges
@EssexPoliceUK
face every night, out with them on patrol yesterday as they responded to incidents: one potential crime, suspected driving on false plates & no insurance, the others helping people collapsed, gone missing, or in mental health crisis
Please support our campaign to get zombie knives off our streets. The government has launched a consultation on banning large knives with no practical use, creating a new offence & giving police new powers to deal with them. Thanks to
@Anna_Firth
for her work to make this happen.
Little Hallingbury with
@SalomonSoup
, Bob Church and colleagues. Residents very concerned about speeding on the main road through the village - one we will have to address in partnership with the parish council.
How We Can Stop Vehicle Theft: Car theft and motorbike theft have been rising sharply in our county in recent months. It is happening across the country, and it is bad here in Essex. We must make dealing with this surge a priority. | Roger Hirst for Essex

Absolutely horrified by the shocking stabbing of one of our brave police officers in Leyton overnight. His courage in the face of danger shows how police put their lives on the line to protect us every day. I wish the officer a full recovery & my thoughts are with him.
Out with our new Town Centre Team and
@vickyford
in Chelmsford City centre today - great reception from the public, lots of good comments about our boost to policing.
£200,000 is being spent trying to keep young people in

out of gangs. The money's come from

Great to have PM Rishi Sunak
@10DowningStreet
and our Home Sec
@SuellaBraverman
in Chelmsford to launch the Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan today. More funding for Hotspot Policing in Essex, plus more powers on drug crime and investment in safe spaces
A top example of how targeted policing can solve problems and roll up gangs - and of partnership working with the Met. Well done for a great operation today!
Great to be with the Brentwood Fire & Rescue team as they receive the Green action award for environmental improvement. Brentwood came 4th nationally, reducing their energy use by 17% in just one year! Well done!
Very moving Remembrance Day service this morning at St Thomas's in Brentwood - and what a turn out for the parade! The Imperial Youth Band were stunning, and the town turned out inlarge numbers.
Massive positive shout out to local Police Community Support Officers who through some great work and initiative have identified the Arsonists who set fire to the Community Hub and have arrested them.
@EPBasildon

This increase will mean we will have more cops than ever before in Essex - and with the gains in efficiency and effectiveness over the last few years, the strength to step in and prevent crime.
