Ok I understand the boundaries thing. I agree 1000% but every kid is different. You’ll have more connections with some than others. Some kids need the extra connection as long as it’s safe and the parents know and agree to it.

I know I’m not a parent but I coach AAU and I hate the structure all together. Elitism, parents attitudes, structure all of it. AAU is supposed to be a training tool for good players and a way to get experience for players not as good. Also, I hate the lack of girls divisions

Parents don’t ruin your child’s experience with a coach because you think they’re LeBron or Maya Moore. Accepting criticism is just as important for you as it is for the child. You want them to get better, work with them.

Not gonna lie I actually don’t like coaching AAU. I don’t even call my program an AAU program. It’s a basketball development program. I do compete but I want to give these kids an opportunity to play against good talent and get the same experience as these “elite” programs.

I despise egotistical coaches that hurt players to prove a point. Do you know how many girls I have coached and I have to make basketball fun again for them? It’s just heart breaking because after a summer of fun and competitive basketball, I have to send them back to toxicity.

I use AAU to get better as a coach and get players ready for high school. To be honest, I don’t care about winning AAU circuits. As long as we get better we will win. AAU is my off-season development. Do with this information what you will.
