Former Primary headteacher and Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education. Now retired and enjoying gardening, reading and the countryside. All views my own.
So who is bracing themselves for a last minute announcement of an England circuit breaker that means we have to organise remote learning within 24 hours? Am I too cynical?
I have worked for 33 years in education. 30 years in primary schools including 3 deputy headships and 8 years as a head. This was followed by 3 years in university-based ITE. At the end of December I am taking early retirement. Time to garden, travel, read, create and relax.
After almost 30 years of working in Primary schools, I am entering my last week. I will then move to Initial Teacher Training and trying to inspire the next generation of teachers. Really looking forward to it despite being devastated to leave my lovely school.
Hope everyone had a good week back at school. From Nov 1st I will no longer be the HT at Westmeads. We are moving to rural North Yorkshire and I am going to be a senior lecturer in ITE at York St. John University. All a bit scary but also exciting!

And people wonder why we can’t recruit teachers or headteachers. Well, here is one of the reasons! There have been far too many criticisms of schools when everyone I know has worked their hardest to support families in every way possible.
Morning everyone. I’m an Infant headteacher in a wonderful school in Kent. Currently enjoying a holiday in beautiful Yorkshire - what a fantastic county! Enjoying the sunshine but not such hot temperatures here. Hope you all have a good day.

Today my contract at Kent County Council
@Kent_cc
ends. I have worked there for 28 years as a teacher, deputy and headteacher. Tomorrow my work starts as a senior lecturer
@YorkStJohn
university. I am looking forward to a new challenge.
Sad, but true. Yr R children thinking of things that begin with the sound ‘s’. One child bursting to share their idea. “S is for sanitiser!” The Covid generation. 😳
@MichaelRosenYes
Just glad you are on the road to recovery, Michael. We need your voice in education. I love to hear your voice booming out of the classrooms at Westmeads. The children laughing aloud. It brings a tear to my eye knowing your recent struggles. Keep up the fight! 👍
Today I cleared everything from my office, tidied up and sorted all of the online files. I had a wander around and felt proud as I looked at all that has been achieved. It felt strange locking up my lovely school for the last time. 😳

Hello all, hope you are keeping well. I’m the HT of an Infant School in the south east. Feeling a bit disillusioned with Twitter atm so hoping that

will restore my faith! Take care of yourselves.

I bought a Lino printing kit. A pleasurable couple of hours and my first greeting card design! Thank you for your help, Ed.
Wishing everyone returning to school, college, nursery tomorrow, all the very best. We know you all do an amazing job looking after children whatever your role is - headteacher, cleaner, teacher, TA, governor, office staff, lunchtime staff, student teacher. Thank you.
What a wonderful & emotional day today, saying goodbye to my lovely school as headteacher for almost 8 years. Such a fabulous team - staff, children, governors & parents. So proud to have been part of their journey. Such wonderful cards, messages & generous gifts. Thank you. xx
There is no tiredness like end of school year tiredness. And this year especially so. Hope you can all switch off and relax soon; between us we have done an amazing job!
Oh I love this!

How lovely is this? 😊

For our Zoom celebration assembly, I present the certificate to my computer screen and the teacher has their certificate tucked behind their whiteboard screen which they then pull out. The children think it is magic!
Two years ago we moved to our new home in North Yorkshire. We love it here! Two years later and I’ve spent a morning on the picket line for fairer pay and conditions.
Well, day 2 was equally tiring but wow, we love the house even more than we thought! We were treated to a fabulous evening sky at the end of the garden too.
One of the gifts from my wonderful staff to say thank you for all of my work during and after lockdown. How lovely, when they have all been working so hard too. Cheers everyone - happy Friday! 🥂
Did you all spot this in the guidance?
‘Schools which are open for the children of critical workers and vulnerable children should provide meal options for staff and children in attendance, and free schools meals for those who are in attendance.’
I was delighted with how well the vast majority of children skipped into school yesterday. So lovely to hear their chatter and laughter. The staff have been fantastic, as they always are. 😊
Had a lovely drinks FaceTime with friends this evening. The last Friday night in our house in Canterbury before our move to N Yorks next week. So long lovely Kent people, we look forward to welcoming friends when it is safe to do so. Hello Yorkshire folk! 😊

Hello, I’m the headteacher of a 2 form entry Infant School. Have a passion for the teaching of English and especially reading. Also a lover of art and geography.

Hello everyone. Hope all is going well for you, whatever your role at the moment! I’m the headteacher of a great little Infant School in the south east. On day 3 of welcoming back more children into Reception. So far, so good! 👍 Enjoy your day. 😊
Lovely to have more children & staff in school today. Everyone did really well, Reception children, parents & staff, at remembering what to do & when. A successful first day; long may it last! I can sleep well tonight knowing all of the meticulous planning kept everyone safe! 😊
@heymrshallahan
I absolutely agree. Most probably the reason NOT to go for it. But, as a headteacher, the last minute disrespectful changes of direction have become the norm. Some warning either way would be appreciated.
@WalkingHead65
It’s dreadful. I planned how our EY classrooms may look and communicated it to staff. It goes against every principle I have of how young children learn. Terrible times.
What a lovely surprise from my final Early Years session today! How lucky we are to have such thoughtful students. Hope everyone has a great Christmas!

Hello everyone, hope you are keeping well. I’m a HT of an Infant School and I can’t quite believe how busy I have been! Finding it hard to switch off and worried about our lovely community. Look after yourselves.

Stressful evening as UK Power told us fuse board needed replacing & wasn’t safe. Had to cut power to whole school. Playground dug up overnight & uncertainty when it would be fixed. Difficult decision to remain closed today. Phone calls to Key Worker families & text to Yr R. 😳
@Nazmameah1
I think some schools just have more capacity than others. There are so many variables. Try not to judge when you don’t know all of the circumstances. I know that schools are working as hard as they can with the ever-changing guidance.

everyone, hope you are all ok. I’m a HT in an Infant school in the south east. One thing I know is, it’s impossible to keep young children 2m apart. Stay home, keep safe and enjoy the sunshine.
The end of my first week in my new career. It’s been challenging and I’ve had a very steep learning curve, but the kindness and support from my new colleagues has been just wonderful!
@deputygrocott
Where did that last week go? Time is flying through term 1. Hope it is going well for you and that you are enjoying it. I’m the head teacher of an Infant School in the south east of England. Particularly keen on fostering a love of reading.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’m the head teacher of an Infant School. I have a fantastic team of staff and wonderful children. Always looking to make new connections, share ideas and learn from others.
@cyclingkev
If work cannot be done safely then it should not proceed. All along the govt have said they will be guided by the science, so where is the evidence to say it’s ok for children who cannot socially distance to be be masse in a classroom together. It’s a disgrace.
Sad that it takes a study to confirm what schools have been saying all along. I realise that the pandemic was ‘unprecedented’ but the guidance, and the constant changes, have been ridiculous.

Morning everyone on

Hope all is well with you. I’m the headteacher of a wonderful Infant School in the south east. I love children’s picture books and work hard to create a culture of reading for pleasure. Enjoy the ☀️ today!
@deputygrocott
Hurrah! Today is the last day of term. We have Yr 1 and Yr 2 both out on trips - to the Toy Muesum and the theatre. It’s going to be a quiet day with just EYFS in school! Hope everyone has a great holiday when it arrives. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2020.

Many, many congratulations to you on receiving this award. I have so many happy memories of teaching children with your stories and poems and now I am doing the same with future teachers
@YSJPrimary
BBC News - The British Medical Association said with so much "conflicting" evidence on opening schools, it was "completely aligned" with teachers' union calls to delay reopening.
"Until we have got case numbers much lower, we should not consider reopening schools.”
This has done me in today👇🏻😭

Good morning all. What challenging times these are. I’m a HT of an Infant school in the south east. I have an amazing team who have really pulled together and supported each other. Very proud of them all. Look after yourselves. 😊
‘Parents will be given two weeks' notice of return to schools in England, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson’ from the BBC - is it just me but shouldn’t the schools be given the notice too? They might need to do a bit of preparation? 🤔
@deputygrocott
Hello everyone. We are nearly at the end of the longest and most tiring term - keep going, the end is nigh! I’m the headteacher of an Infant School in the south east.
