Looking for a Cardinal who had the right stuff? Cardinal George was a man of authenticity and integrity, truly pastoral and holy, a clear and articulate teacher of the Faith. And he’s as much needed now as when he was with us. I invite you to encounter him in “Glorifying Christ.”
I’d be grateful for the generosity of your prayers, please, for our 1yo son. The little guy is having surgery early tomorrow morning to repair a hernia.
Plea for prayers. My grandma has tested positive for COVID. She suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and has been weakened by a recent emergency abdominal surgery. So many of you have been so kind to pray for her in the past. Fiat voluntas tua, Domine.
Only one mention of Pope Benedict, in general intercessions, at my parish today. No other commemorations, no announced memorial Masses. I can only think this great man deserves more.
My dear and beloved grandma Betty went to meet the Lord about an hour ago. A life well spent — loving, faithful, selfless and generous — which made clear that it was Christ who lived in her, as did these last years in her great suffering. Please pray for the repose of her soul.
The devil once came to St. Teresa of Avila, as she told the story, disguised as the Risen Christ. But she immediately rejected him. Before he left, though, he asked how she knew. She answered: “Because you have no wounds.”
John Paul II left us the Saturday after Easter. And now Benedict leaves us on the Saturday after Christmas. On Our Lady’s day. There’s something beautiful about this.
May I ask for an urgent prayer request? My dad faces a long road of hospitalization after his appendix ruptured last night. Most grateful for any assistance you may offer him by your prayers. And thanking God for keeping him safe thus far. 🙏🏻
Do you ever pray to someone else’s guardian angel? Since my grandma needed to move to a nursing home, I’ve found myself praying to her guardian angel a few times a day — to guard and protect her and deliver a sense of our love and concern for her. Guardian angels, pray for us!
Hospice has just informed our family that they don’t have reason to think my grandma will make it through the day. Please pray for Betty as she prepares to meet the Lord.

When St. Katharine Drexel’s white sisters were told they couldn’t minister to Black children, she challenged the law and won.
When the KKK threatened one of her convents, she and her sisters prayed fervently ... and a tornado took out their local office a few days later.
A bit of news. God is so good! Baby Heinlein

due in May. Older brother and older sister are already completely in love, as are we! Please pray for us, especially

Sri Lankan martyrs shed their blood not only on Easter Sunday, but also on the birthday (1651) of Sri Lanka’a first (and, so far, only) canonized saint — St. Joseph Vaz.
Our little guy is home! Everything went well. The only thing that calmed him down during recovery was Mel Tormé, naturally! 😂 So many thanks for all the many prayers for his successful surgery.

Revealed in Abp. Gänswein’s new book, Pope Benedict enjoyed having the volumes of Cardinal Pell’s Prison Journal read to him. May they both gaze on Christ’s face forever.

After Communion at Mass last night, silently I picked up something off the floor, resembling a host. My toddler son, looking very concerned, asked: “What is it? Is it Christ?”
HE’S TWO.
What a blessing. What hope!
(FYI: after inspection it clearly was a piece of plastic)
My grandma’s Alzheimer’s disease has reached a crisis point as far as her care is concerned. To call it heartbreaking puts it mildly, as so many in similar situations know. In your charity, please pray for Betty?
I would greatly appreciate prayers for my grandma. We learned today that her dementia has reached a stage where doctors advise she no longer live at home, even though my grandpa is still there. May the Holy Spirit guide the next steps and may Mary bring solace and comfort.
"When people ask what Jesus would do, they con themselves into thinking that he would accept evil out of compassion for people...Jesus was certainly compassionate, with a love beyond our understanding. But he didn’t cooperate with evil; he died to save us from it."
Abp. Chaput articulates pro-life is the preeminent social issue, contrary to Bp. McElroy saying "it is not." Abp. Chaput cites this discussion is an attempt to create a false division between US bishops and Pope Francis. He is applauded by bishops.

“The most disappointing quality to Laudate Deum is that, from paragraph No. 2 through paragraph No. 60, it could have been drafted by any intelligent non-believer working for a secular NGO. Jesus makes an appearance in paragraph No. 1, then goes on hiatus”
Looking at our wedding pictures with 3yo daughter (tomorrow is our wedding anniversary):
“I wish I was there. I missed you guys then, when I was in the mind of God.” ❤️😭
My grandpa John is in his very last hours. In your charity, please pray for a happy death.
My continued thanks goes to you all, especially all who have been praying for him these last many months.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist him in his last agony.
I’m currently in Lourdes, and it’s been disturbing to see Rupnik’s art front and center. Even in the gift shops. To foster healing in the Church, to show our credibility, it must be purged.
“Abortion is no more a ‘single issue’ than was slavery. It is, instead, a defining issue, one which shapes the future of the nation. The present legal policy of abortion-on-demand ... weakens the social contract that has kept this country together.”

My grandpa John died early this morning. Thank you for your continued prayers for him.
Saints of God, come to his aid!
Come to meet him, angels of the Lord!
Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.
Réquiem aetérnam dona ei, Dómine,
et lux perpétua lúceat ei.
Just a thought related to the upcoming Eucharistic Revival: Why don't we return Corpus Christi to a Thursday and make it a Holy Day of Obligation? It just might help restore a sense of Catholic culture that is needed to restore a truly Eucharistic people.
I’m hard pressed to think of anything sweeter to my ears than our little two-year old girl singing the Salve Regina before bed. I’ve been singing it with the kids nightly since they were born, and lately she’s been joining in. It’s truly one of those unmerited joys of fatherhood.
50 days ago today I was at my grandma’s side as she drew her last breath. It was quite an experience, then, to be present today as our son drew his first breath. From death to life… truly a paschal journey for our family this spring.
In the last few years, I’ve heard of no small number of priests leaving active ministry, most of them relatively young. Is anyone talking/writing about what might be going on, what the reasons might be or what the laity can do to help? It’s too often hushed. Oremus.
A request for prayers for my grandpa. He’s been rapidly declining since my grandma had to move to a nursing home just after their 60th wedding anniversary. May God make his presence known to him and Our Lady bring him comfort.
Ven. Augustus Tolton was ordained at the Lateran Basilica in Rome

in 1886, becoming the first admittedly Black priest from the US.

opened his cause for canonization in 2010, describing it as "one of the most important” things he did as archbishop of Chicago.
When told he wouldn’t be ordained in Chicago, ultimately related to to disability from polio,
#CardinalGeorge
recalled responding, “Well, to heck with you guys.” He joined the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and, in God’s providence, became the first native-born archbishop of Chicago.
It’s time for the Knights of Columbus (

Today is the feast of Our Lady of Prompt Succor — patroness of New Orleans or anyone needing the Blessed Mother’s immediate assistance. Use of the title goes back almost three centuries. And when invoked by it, Mary has interceded in decisive ways.
Behold a great priest, who in his days pleased God; therefore, in accordance with his promise, the Lord gave him growth for the good of his people.
Pray for us, Benedict.
A very urgent prayer request, in your charity, please.
My grandma, who suffers with Alzheimer’s, is in the ER with a digestive perforation. Specifics aren’t known, but emergency surgery is about to begin. Very risky, and much infection. Thank you in advance for any prayers.
My grandma Betty was laid to rest yesterday. Heartfelt thanks to so many for their kindnesses, generosity and prayers. By God’s grace and mercy, we pray, may she take her place among the angels and saints.

in 1997,
#CardinalGeorge
was appointed eighth archbishop of Chicago.
“The faith isn’t liberal or conservative,” he told the Chicago press that day. “The faith is true and I will preach the faith.”
And he did just that.
A PROPOSAL
Perhaps every bishop could offer a Eucharistic blessing outside his cathedral on Easter Sunday?
Bless our dioceses with the body of the Risen Lord on the day he rose again.
Why not make it a national effort,
@USCCB
? Pope Francis led the way.

From Fulton Sheen’s last Good Friday sermon:
“Show me your hands. Have you a scar from giving? A scar of sacrificing yourself for another? Show me your feet. Have you gone about doing good? Were you wounded in service? Show me your heart. Have you left a place for divine love?”

“No one receives the Eucharist on any other terms except those of Christ himself, just as no one is a Catholic on any other terms but Christ’s.”

Instead of letting polio destroy him, young Cardinal George let it shape him. A hospital roommate was said to find the teen gazing often at a crucifix. It seems that, amid the suffering and uncertainty of the future, he learned to rely on Christ’s cross to make sense of it all.
