The streets outside Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis were abuzz with excitement July 17 as Catholics of all ages and walks of life gathered for the 10th National Eucharistic Congress, the first such congress in 83 years.
The entire Ulma family was beatified in Markowa Sept. 10. They were executed by the Nazis for hiding eight Jews, including a 3-year-old girl, in their home. Their martyrdom was recognized last year.
“I’m offering them the hospitality of the seminary as well as the opportunity to get acclimated, acculturated and see what the next steps would be after that,” Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski said.

NEW: A Kentucky bishop's decision to endorse a hermit who publicly identified as a transgender person has raised a number of questions and concerns -- particularly from another diocesan hermit and theologian.

A Christian convert in Egypt imprisoned for more than two years for publicly speaking about his conversion has declared a hunger strike, prompting religious freedom advocates to increase their calls for his release.
