Surprise: I wrote a children’s book that teaches kids how to be journalists for

and
@timeforkids
! The “Kid Reporter Field Guide” comes out this December and is available for preorder right now : ))
Who will save us from the worsening climate crisis already playing out before our eyes? Certainly not any of the GOP candidates running to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in the recall election.
My latest…
Two great Northern California icons who contributed so much to the arts died this week — Joan Didion and now Wayne Thiebaud. (Some recent photos of his pieces at MOMA and the Legion of Honor). Can’t help but look at a Thiebaud and smile
Wow! In a hugely surprising twist the Placer County Board of Supervisors has undone their vote approving Map A and unanimously approved Hybrid Map 2, option 1 (the map drawn by and overwhelmingly supported by the public). Amazing day for democracy in Placer County
UC Davis cut mental health resources for students during a pandemic and hasn’t delivered on its budget-approved counselor-in-residence position nor the budgeted counselor positions for international & MENASA students
... but yeah, a book project might work
The 2020-21 Campus Community Book Project will be all about mental health: Book is Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo & Me, a graphic memoir by Ellen Forney.
Here’s the question I asked Larry Elder that he said he was “offended” by. It led one of his supporters to leave a message on my company voicemail calling me a “c***” and telling me to “get f*****”
I’m cooking my way through a cookbook! And not just any cookbook, one where all the recipes are inspired by movies. First down is the angel food cake from Groundhog Day. Thread incoming:
This is so freakin infuriating. Even
@CaityMaple
? Who told me in 2021 that she was pro-demilitarization and wanted Sac PD to stop acquiring military weapons?? Come ON
Disappointment from the council tonight. When we thought bringing 3 new members on that body would help change things, we were wrong. Police terror is still a favorite for the Sacramento City Council.
@CMMaiVang
&
@CMKValenzuela
voted no while all the others went big yes.
This is the high school I went to. It’s also the high school
@KevinKileyCA
went to. Yet he’s been absolutely silent about gun control and mass shootings since Buffalo and Uvalde.
Kiley would rather spend his time bashing Newsom than actually do something for his district.
“An anonymous tip was came through the school's online reporting system stating that a Granite Bay High School student had allegedly threatened a school shooting.”
Horrifying.
“Every (time) I see someone with a mask on, I say a silent thank you,” Nichols tweeted in May of 2020. “We’re in this together. Be there for each other.”

UPDATE: In an act of retaliation for our editorial,
@ucdavis
Media Board decided to go back on its assurance earlier this year that our EIC would be involved in interviews. That means The Aggie has 0 direct say in the choosing of its own editor-in-chief.
All four Aggie EIC applicants are refusing an interview until our Campus Media Board obtains quorum. On top of this, as an autonomous, independent student newspaper, we should be able to choose our own EIC, and we call for a major reform of the selection process.
Today
@markzagaynov
& I are doing a donut tour of Sacramento, using recs from
@BenjyEgel
& the Internet. Our first stop is Natomas Donuts. We both give 6/10. 🍩 (1/?)

When I was much younger, I remember asking my mom why a Republican president was so dangerous. She immediately went to SCOTUS & how a conservative majority could overturn Roe. I thought she was being hyperbolic — after all, Roe’s existed long before I did.
Never doubt your mom.
I was at the UC newspaper convention this weekend (which was great!) & a fellow student journalist said my suicide series is required reading for anyone reporting on mental health in the UC. 🥺🥺
Kevin Kiley once argued that one could understand the true and present danger of inequality today only by studying the history of American race relations. These days, he’s positioned himself as anti-CRT.
My latest for The Bee:
My professor kept mentioning the mental health investigation I did in class & today he found out I authored it ... and let me tell you... no one’s ever looked as proud to be in my presence as he did in that moment. Is this what celebrity status is like?
I am just a woman… standing in front of people who write op-eds… asking them to please stop using “if California were a country it’d have the world’s fifth largest economy.”
We all know that, I promise you
listen…I just wanna talk to the editors who read this before it was published, saw that Dracula was credited to Jane Austen, and thought, “yeah, that sounds right”
Virtually no elected officials in Placer County are masking up at public meetings, a decision that sets a disgraceful example for constituents who need leaders that appreciate the gravity of the ongoing public health crisis.

Placer County officials have demonstrated that they do not take a fatal virus that has killed 330 people in this county seriously, writes Hannah Holzer. | Opinion

A middle-aged dad-type saw my tote and said “interesting bag” but I guess he hadn’t seen the bottom because then he asked “girls only want one thing, what is it?” And I flattened the bottom and said, “revenge,” and then he laughed.

The award for Best Coverage of the California Recall goes to...
@SacBeeEditBoard
“These pieces featured both strong reporting and incisive analysis on the issues and stakes of the recall.”
I spoke with Supervisor
@HillaryRonen
about the Right to Recover program, launched today, which will help ensure that San Francisco residents who test positive for COVID-19 have the financial ability to quarantine. Give it a read:
“People are angry, and we don’t blame them. But we cannot arrest our way out of this crisis.”
Very proud to sit on an Editorial Board that shares a vision of change for Sacramento rooted in compassion and hope instead of anger and resentment.
My opponent just received the endorsement of Trump. Voters have a choice between a partisan politician who supports January 6th insurrectionists and a public servant who always puts country above party. Chip in today to help us fight back:
I tried to make a My Cousin Vinny reference in class and everybody around me thought I was just referencing something said by a cousin of mine named Vinny..... yoots today, man
I support the effort to demilitarize police and see no reason why Sacramento-area law enforcement agencies need a dozen armored vehicles within a 30 mile radius. | OPINION
Sometimes Twitter hits me with that “this tweet contains a word you’ve muted.” And I think, Oh man, this must be a controversial tweet. But then I click on the tweet and the word I muted is like “basketball”
A guy in Trader Joe’s walked up to me, said he was having a debate with his girlfriend who he was on the phone with, and said he wanted to ask me questions.
1) had I ever been to a zoo? (Yes)
2) had I ever eaten sardines? (Yes)
“I TOLD YOU!” he yelled into his phone.
“All these people I thought I was close to all of a sudden just disappeared. I was uninvited from events (and) hangouts, and no one even spoke with me. It was literally like I was shunned.”

Last week, after voting to equip Sac PD with a third military vehicle,
@CaityMapleD5
said she “failed” to do proactive outreach & hurt communities of color.
Now, she appears to do a total 180, calling the vehicle a “tractor” & painting herself as the victim of online bullying.
I made this red velvet cake this weekend and I’m still so proud of how pretty it came out (esp. given that I resorted to using a ziploc bag instead of a piping bag). :,)))
Bakery near me was doing five croissants for $5 for National Croissant Day on Sunday. I went at 10:30 only to be told they’d sold out at 7:30. So instead I just made my own..
This is my grandpa! And this is his second time in the LA Times: “I’m certain that Ric Ross knows more about me than I do myself,” Sinatra himself told The Times in a 1988 story.
Sinatra expert Ric Ross was the previous owner of the collection: “It’d be tough to say I’m 100% certain, but it certainly sounds a lot like the 1944 Sinatra I’m used to listening to.”
I’d just like to take this moment to say that I am currently Ubering in a Mercedes Benz along the French Riviera from Eze to Monte Carlo... I have reached peak pretentious.

Whenever I edit op-eds I think it’s funny when the author initially uses the correct em dash “—“ and then, by the end, opts for the easier back-to-back double dash “- -“ Keeps me on my toes.
