A thing I thought: Comic publishers have been investing too much money in covers, not enough in interiors. The reader needs to connect to the story to keep buying monthlies, the artist needs the time & investment to draw that story well.

I don't think comics creators/authors should charge for signatures of their work at cons. Buying the book entitles them to your sig. I also don't think fans should take advantage of that, buy getting too much signed and/or selling it.

Let’s forget #XMen97 for a second & go back to #XMen88! This is what it would have looked like if I was working on Uncanny #XMen in the 80’s. Now the only question that remains is should I turn this into a triple gatefold cover with all the villains and supporting cast?

I don't think it's that new artists don't do it. It's that they're not the ones getting hired. That kind of cartooning/exaggeration generally appeals to younger readers. Older fans want their comics taken "seriously" and buy the more realistically drawn superhero comics.
Hot Take! This most recent generation of artists is far too hung up on anatomy and sensible proportions. It’s because they don’t want to be criticized. They fear justifying individuality. So happy my peers didn’t have those same reservations. Just have fun!

For 80s kids, this was one of those movies whispered about on the playground. one your parents might let you watch, but that would scare the crap out of you. And you loved it.
Part of Disney's brilliant 'Dark Phase', DRAGONSLAYER (1981) is an underrated fantasy movie with some great effects and a great-looking dragon. This scene actually shocked me as a kid (did I mention it was dark?)

Man, @c2e2 was awesome. Some observations from the slingin' side of an Artist Alley table: 1). Friday was far & away the busiest day for all the comic creators I talked to, probably because that's when the hardcore/engaged fans show up. These are the people who take the day.

An observation! In the last 12 years or so I rarely saw guys 12-17 at cons. Mostly men 35 and older and women 16-30. At Terrificon I signed books for quite a few young dudes tho. Pretty encouraging I think!.

Did some inventory. The comics series I have the most of are: SAVAGE DRAGON (all of ‘em), INVINCIBLE (all of ‘em), AVENGERS (256-390. I ditched on The Crossing in 1995) and MIGHTY THOR (337-493)! I also have a stunning amount of ELEMENTALS.

No, I want you to make money. If people at cons aren’t paying for big time creator sigs, they have money to buy more indie comics. I’ve been an indie guy for 30 years. I don’t apologize for wanting to put new comics in peoples’ hands.
Respectfully, Do you see what people are willing to spend money on at cons? Pop funko dolls overpriced food/drink but a signature is too much? . Indie creators are the only people at cons who have to be apologetic about making money.
