At sea, ‘one prolonged blast’ on a ship’s whistle normally means you are approaching an obscured bend in a channel but on this occasion it was to apologise for photo-bombing Sophie & Chris’ wedding photos as we returned to @HMNBPortsmouth. Many congratulations from all of us!🍾👩❤️👨

1/3 We received a reminder last night of the daily dangers faced by mariners. A MAYDAY call received in the early hours while at anchor, reporting a person lost overboard in the middle of a severe gale some 30 miles away, prompted the Ship’s Company to immediately make the Ship.

The end of an Era! MERSEY bids farewell to Lt Cdr Edwards-Bannon RN, and hello to the new CO, Lt Cdr Munns RN. Under Lt Cdr Edwards-Bannon’s Command, MERSEY steamed over 91,000 miles and remained fully operationally effective during the COVID-19 pandemic.
