I spoke with Johnny Bench for the newest installment of Conversations with the Herd. He won the Minor League Player of the Year playing for #Buffalo as a 19-year-old in 1967. He talked about his #Bisons memories and his incredible major-league career:

Sherman Jones was born #OTD in 1935. He went 9-6 with a 3.79 ERA for the 1964 #Bisons. Pitched in the majors for the Giants, Reds, and Mets. #Buffalo

Baseball Hall of Famer Herb Pennock was born #OTD in 1894. He went 7-6 with a 1.67 ERA for the 1916 #Bisons. In 22 major league seasons, he went 241-162 with a 3.60 ERA. Played for the Philadelphia A’s, Red Sox, and Yankees. #Buffalo

Happy Birthday to the 2020 and 2021 American League Reliever of the Year Liam Hendriks. He went 8-1 with a 2.33 ERA for the 2014 #Bisons. Won the 2023 A.L. Comeback Player of the Year Award after winning his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. #Buffalo

Vic Wertz was born #OTD in 1925. He hit .301 with 19 HRs and 91 RBIs for the 1946 #Bisons. Hit .277 with 266 HRs in 17 major-league seasons. Perhaps best known today for hitting the ball Willie Mays made “The Catch” on in the 1954 World Series:
