I wish that those 1 in 20 would tell me where my father’s family are then. I’d love to know where they disappeared to. Holocaust Memorial Day: 'Shocking' levels of denial remain - BBC News.
My dad was a ‘racial refugee’ who got here on 4/8/39. Almost all his family died in the Shoah. Proud to serve the UK and build his life here, he instilled in me the need to give back to the UK. Hence my professional and communal life. QC. OBE. That’s what refugees do

Many years ago, when I was seeking my first tenancy in a set of Chambers, I was interviewed - briefly - by an elderly semi-retired Head of Chambers. “Grunwald” he said. “If I offer you a tenancy, will you shave your beard off?” “No”, I said. End of interview.
Week 2 of the strikes. Really good to see senior members of the Bar and Silks outside the Royal Courts of Justice this morning. The support for the junior end of the Bar is much appreciated.

As Shabbat went out, I heard the sad news of the death of Rabbi Lord Sacks. A giant amongst men whose writings and oratory inspired so many of all faiths. I am devastated at the loss of a teacher and a friend. May his memory be a blessing to us all, especially his dear family.
I’m with

Tomorrow is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. I was to be there next Sunday but the trip was cancelled due to Covid19. Let us remember what the British troops who entered the camp found and give thanks to and for the remaining survivors

I’ve just got home from the Covid-limited funeral of Rabbi Lord Sacks, feeling very emotional at this sudden too-soon loss of an inspirational teacher and friend. Wonderful eulogies from Rabbis and family but please see below for his effect on the wider community

HRH Prince Philip was a good friend to my community. Having attended the banquet given by the City of London in 1956 to mark 300 years since the readmission of Jews to England, he let it be known that he wished to attend the similar event in 2006 for the 350th anniversary

A very moving piece by my daughter about why she won’t accompany her siblings to Auschwitz. Chilled that I didn’t know how affected she’d been as a child by the fear of Nazis. Why I won’t be visiting Auschwitz with my family
I have just been at the funeral of Harry Bibring. What a truly remarkable man. Arriving in Britain on a Kindertransport, he dedicated his life to teaching about and against hate to the end. He died at age 93. May his dear soul rest in peace.

Gary Lineker did not compare the current government with a Nazi government. He rightly pointed out that language is important. And ‘invaders’ and, (re 100 million) ‘they’re coming here’ are not the language that a responsible government should use.

Holocaust survivors, like my great grandmother Lily Ebert, are powerful lights that shine bright through darkness and guide us, making the world a brighter place.
Wishing everyone a warm & wonderful Chanukah 🍩🕎❤️

You poor misguided person. It’s Hamas who wants to commit actual genocide against Jews - go and read their charter - listen to their leaders who say the want to repeat 7/10 day after day.

Today I turned 70. One good friend turned 70 yesterday. Another turned 70 ten days ago. As long as there is always a time of the year when I am older then them, I feel happy!
I am slow to criticise the BBC but the Today programme just allowed a Palestinian spokesman to rant about the explosion at the Gaza hospital without questioning his claims and then demanded that an IDF spokesman submit the evidence he presented to independent scrutiny

No, they were striking a blow against a particular source of anti-Jewish-racism. Her article has a point but it’s an over-simplistic one. The slime comes from left and right and the 9/11 lie has been much more prevalent from the left - see eg Stephen Sizer.

My sense from the MANY conversations I have with Jews every day is that a majority feel beleaguered, bruised + very concerned about antisemitism right now. Avoiding areas where marches take place, due to a loud minority of vile antisemites? Yes. Leaving London? Hell no!
So very proud to be the Chair of this fantastic organisation.
