Hi new peeps. To answer a few questions I keep getting asked:
- Yes, I'm still alive
- No, I don't really hold BTC anymore (Yes, I'm serious)
- Yes, I hold some alt-coins (mostly ETH, RDD and Sia)
- Yes, I did have BTC but sold it at around $15k to pay student loans/cap gains
I guess I gotta send my annual "I'm still alive and not massively depressed due to the bitcoin price" tweet. Y'all don't need to keep tweeting the price * 1700, I know, I know.
Selling 3 of 4 NFT from my old 2011 tweet on OpenSea. Sale ends February 10, 2022.
Please, please don't make the Comic Sans one the most valuable version.
I swear I don't need to check the markets to see how BTC is doing, everyone is so helpful giving me reports about much BTC is worth and how much I would have have had I not sold in my mentions. 😀
So I'm generating these NFT for my infamous tweet and I'm half tempted to make a meme Comic Sans version but I'm scared to death it'd end up being the one everyone wants.
So I'm pretty damn awful at keeping social media updated. I have to keep posting though or I get DMs asking me if I'm still alive because of the Bitcoin thing.
Just finished filing my MtGox Rehabilitation Claim and if I'm reading this right, the 0.79 BTC I had in the exchange is pegged to the price of BTC at the time of Bankruptcy, so like $111. Wow.
@saahaand
Yeah, I mean, even if I hadn't sold at $0.30, I might have sold at $100, $200, etc. Unless you literally knew for a fact it was gonna rise like a rocket you'd be tempted at every milestone.
Finally got around to purging about 700 of my old 2007-era tweets. I did leave the bitcoin one, of course. There was a lot of context-free commentary and broken image upload links, so not much of value was lost.
I know the BTC price, folks. You can stop telling me how much money I would have had.😀 Yes I still hold a few BTC but not nearly what I had, not even close. I also have some ETH and XVG that I got into early but I totally wish I'd bought WAY WAY more.
@sape263
Still in crypto, much much lower balances than I could have had, had I just forgotten about a cold wallet until this very moment :) My current strategy if I sell out of a coin is to keep like 5-10% in an offline wallet in case it skyrockets.
I quietly reopened my DMs a few months ago... the bulk of messages I've been getting is people asking what coins to buy. I don't know why people think I have some secret moon plan.
@modytrr
@prasy2000
I consider myself pretty well off, like there are people who have it way harder than me.
The feeling now is kinda like being one digit off on a lottery ticket. Would it have been nice? Yeah, but I don't lose sleep over it.
So I guess the internet is losing its collective minds over the dip in BTC. I mean, it was at $8k a month ago, so a correction was probably in order. Still say ETH is WAY undervalued.
Well, I guess OpenSea defaults to a Fixed Price Sale instead of Auction like I assumed it would. Somebody got the Lights Out version for 0.1 ETH. Whoops.
People have been telling me some stories about wishing they could lock away their coins for X amount of time. This is the only idea I've been able to come up with that isn't extremely convoluted.
@its_a_me_luke
At this point, it's honestly just a story, "Hey, so I did this super dumb thing a few years back..." Though it's strange to have so many people hearing about it.
@CryptoChainsaw
I mean, I don't have any skills that would let me be accurate on this. With that in mind, my gut feeling is probably somewhere between $10-15k. I'm probably wrong though, it could very well drop to like $4k as well.
Changed my Coinbase login to use a +UUID like greg.schoen+63791bcb92b04d709fdd2c18c7fb5b93
@gmail
.com because the tweet I sent in 2011 caused a massive uptick in failed login attempts. Big fan of Gmail's + anything logic.
@meinwonderland7
Long since over it, early when BTC hit $100 my coworkers at the time found the tweet and reminded me of how much it would be worth for a while. I was salty then, but it's been a while and I've had plenty of time to just laugh at being known for something like this.
@serglotz
I've mentioned this before but really it's just a story now. "Oh yeah, I have followers on Twitter for doing something stupid." It doesn't at all keep me up at night.
@GuptSoham
On Mtgox, back when it still existed. I mean I actually bought the coins probably around July 2010. I had an ID in their database of like 252, was one of the reasons I moved to a password manager.
I can't think of a time-lock crypto method that doesn't involve a third party in some way or take forever. Maybe there's a need for a site that publishes a public key for every year between like now and 2050, and then the private on the 1st of that year.

I can't find any historical information on how many BTC were available on mtgox at the time. At the time there were 3M BTC minted in total, so you'd be purchasing a significant portion of all coins, it'd get more expensive as you'd bought up all the Asks.

@Blockworks_
I was pretty lucky to get into MtGox before they stopped allowing Paypal but get out before the hack which would have left me *still today* waiting on their bankruptcy proceedings.
I’m a lot more impressed with the iPhone X than I thought I would be. Face ID is very responsive and I barely notice the notch. Expected to hate the new gestures, but a few hours in and I seem to already be used to them. Need a case, though, it’s like a bar of soap.
@BOLOF2000
I think there was an article or someone talking about it on Twitter. My MtGox ID was 264, so I think I might have seen it when MtGox originally launched. Honestly not sure.
@coinsmaniac
Well, I mean, it’d be nice to be a multimillionaire, but like I’ve said before, I was a little annoyed when BTC went from $100-$200 overnight, but I stopped kicking myself a while ago. :)
@attilah
@Lizardjb3
Mostly just people on Twitter, interesting stuff tends to pop into my feed without too much effort. I’ll pursue the coinmarketcap page just to see how things are moving and google ones I don’t recognize.
@prasy2000
Nope, some small amounts of some altcoins but nothing life changing unless the market shifts dramatically. I mentioned before but I sold the last of my BTC to pay off some bill and capital gains taxes on it.
@LordYupa2
@jason_promes
I suppose everyone does love a good redemption arc. I have been thinking about it, but I'm a little hesitant to make quick decisions regarding crypto these days... for reasons.
@SheilaN48661736
Mostly just more potential to increase compared to BTC. Lower market caps have more of a chance to increase over ones that are already high. BTC has been lagging behind in the tech, transactions are still taking way too long the last time I checked.
After wrestling with the Security and Authentication settings I was finally able to get the code generator enabled and turn off the SMS codes. You have to turn the phone code on and then add Google Auth, then turn off the text code, kinda convoluted but it works.
@TVK_NFT
Exactly, the temptation to cash out, especially early on was really high. Every peak was a temptation to take your profits because you were never sure if there was going to be legislation to ban it or something else. Now it's easier to HODL because there's less uncertainty.
@DKGPP
Early on MtGox was still accepting Paypal so I used that at the time, it wasn't long after that I think Paypal shut down their account or they at least stopped accepting it.
@Gord0n_Gekko
Well it's not like it was $0.30 one day at $62k the next, there was plenty of time to watch the rise and just be like "oh well, lesson learned, don't sell the whole bag"
@scarrbondale
I think I did a claim for like 0.8btc because of what I had in the exchange at the time. Wondering if the petition to payout in BTC instead of cash is going to do anything though.
@ALALI923
I think it might have been an article on like digg or something (that's a blast from the past). My MtGox ID was something like 200 or close to it. I still get endless spam messages trying to get me to invest in stuff thanks to that hack.
@merfymerf
Ha, that's about how I felt around the time when BTC jumped from $100 to $200 overnight. At this point I'm at peace with it, I can't be the only one who did the same thing, though I doubt many tweeted about it that far back!
