Tomorrow marks the 5 year anniversary of my favorite nocturnal tornado event. If only I had more experience as a photographer that night. I witnessed 5 tornadoes in the Texas panhandle, including 2 eF3s.

I drove that stretch this past summer and the 419.99 is no longer there. It goes from MM 419 to MM 421 now. They just skip the whole mile altogether.
My first sketch of the year is a sat/radar overhead composite of a generic supercell environment. I am placing an emphasis on producing more artistic content in 2022 than ever before.

8 years ago, the Texas panhandle put on a spectacular show. Unfortunately, my photography skills weren't better back then. This was a last-minute decision to chase, and I didn't have overly high expectations when I departed Tulsa, but the day delivered! A dream of a chase!
As excited as I am for "Twisters", this official movie poster cannot be ignored. The tornado looks super fake and cheap, and the characters aren't even looking at it. They look like they have no situational awareness and are about to wind up in a Skip Talbot postmortem video.
This was taken near Gore, OK as a long track

approached. I followed this storm up HWY 100 in the bear's cage for half an hour. I saw the tornado briefly in powerflashes near Blackgum and crossed damage path 4 different places.

Apparently a storm chaser was hit by a tornado in Texas yesterday. My immediate thought was did this guy get munched by the tornado west of Salado, TX when it took that hard left. Fortunately he survived.
I see

I see Dodge City pics circulating the Twitters, so here is one I haven't shared. This was the most incredible 90 minutes of storm chasing I have ever experienced.

Thursday evening looks very interesting from the Texas panhandle north into southern Kansas. Nighttime tornadoes on the southern high plains in November? Sign me up! Here's a pic of what can happen when things line up just right. Photo from Nov 16, 2015 near Pampa, TX.

A large intense tornado tracked near Sulphur Springs, TX today. A 2nd tornado formed out of a circulation that rotated around the south side of this larger tornado. The 2 tornadoes continued simultaneously for several minutes. The same storm would later hit Idabel, OK.

The wx community is so toxic, and right now particularly. Right now all I see is bickering over driving, calling the day a bust too early, rating the tornadoes, etc. It's sad honestly. It would be nice if we all showed more respect and grace, and had more humility.
Today marks the 25 year anniversary of the release of the movie Twister. On this date in 2010 a tornado struck the farm where this scene was filmed. The old wooden bridge is no longer standing, but the wood beams are still lying in the field.

Happy Lockett Day. Some of my best chases have been these low-key days where your expectations aren't real high, and the atmosphere puts on an absolute show.
One more update on "El Reno 2013" before my attention turns to chasing the next couple of days. The radar image is complete, aside from the background map. I am now drawing the mesoscale map with satellite in the box in the lower right. Should be finished next week.

I continue to make progress on the supercell model. Decided to go ahead and add a second tornado. Why not! I have added a couple of light coats of paint and several thin layers of cotton bedding to continue to refine the look. Will probably tinker with it for weeks.
May 31st will always be a day of reflection and gratitude for me. Today, we remember Twistex and all those who were lost in the 2013 El Reno tornado. Last year, to commemorate the 10th anniversary, I poured my heart and sole into this drawing that finally gave me some closure.
Scored a couple of tornadoes ne of Point, TX. It appears the tornadoes tracked across mostly rural areas. Hoping no homes were affected. Video to come later.

I recently started working on on a project I have left sitting on the table for 2 years now. This is a diorama of a structured supercell with a wedge tornado, pretty much every chasers dream. Still a long way to go, but it's starting to look the part. My wife married a dork.

Yesterday reminded us why Oklahoma has the reputation of being the

I didn't get to chase as much as I usually do, especially during May and June, but I made the most of the days I was out. This CG bolt was taken near Burlington, CO back in June. This was the last day of Tour 8 with SLT.
I was in the area so I decided to make a visit. Found some cows hanging out here today. I'm about to go back and retrace their route and also retrace my route from that fateful day. It's so peaceful out here. Still hard to believe they are gone. There's no such thing as closure.
The doldrums of winter are excruciating at times. I long for spring when south breezes usher in tropical moisture interacting with a surging dryline and lead to scenes like this. Hurry up spring!

Happy Lockett Day to all who celebrate. 3 years ago, OTD, a supercell in northwest Texas, produced 5 relatively short-lived but exceptionally photogenic tornadoes near Lockett. The tornado photo with the windmill & rainbow is currently my all-time favorite shot.
Another shot from Tuesday of this massive supercell that tracked from Ponca City, south, to OKC. At one point, it was warned for 80mph winds and baseball-sized hail. I'm looking to hit the road again tomorrow in search of more supercells.
