Yesterday we welcomed HRH The Duke of Gloucester to Gravesend to see at first hand the physical and cultural regeneration taking place here. He visited the St George's Arts Centre, St George's Church, and viewed the Queen's statue in St Andrew's Gardens.
History was made today when Rt Rev James Langstaff, Bishop of Rochester and Bishop of H.M. Prisons and Cllr David Turner, Honorary Freeman of the Borough and Leader of the Council unveiled the statue of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate our longest reigning monarch.

We have good news. Our friends at 8Point3 LED and GA Harpers Construction Services have worked wonders today to repair the lights at the Clock Tower which will now be lit for Remembrance weekend.
Sadly, due to vandalism we will be unable to light Gravesend Clock Tower red for Remembrance Sunday this year, nor will it be lit to celebrate Diwali. We are waiting for replacement parts to arrive, which won't happen for some time yet.

Last night's incident in Gravesend: The Blake's nightclub incident last night (Saturday 17 March) was shocking for all involved, but was handled very well by the emergency services and the staff at the nightclub. The incident is not terrorism related.
Today is the last day The Woodville will be used as a Covid-19 vaccination centre. The NHS staff and volunteers have administered more than 100K vaccines to help combat Covid-19. A Plaque was unveiled by the Mayor who thanked all of the staff and volunteers for their hard work

A 34 year old female from Northfleet has been issued with a £400 fine by officers from the Gravesham Borough Council Environmental Enforcement Team after she fly-tipped waste in Stanbrook Road, Northfleet. In addition to the fine the offender was required to clear the waste.
A Chatham man has become the first to be issued with a £1,000 fine for fly tipping by Gravesham Borough Council since higher fixed penalties were introduced last month. More information
The council's Environmental Enforcement Team issued a £400 fine to a 62 year old tradesperson from Swanscombe. The offence occurred in Istead Rise.

We are working hard to track down those who fly-tip across the Borough. Last week we recovered evidence from this fly-tip near Istead Rise which led us to an address in Gravesend where a man was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for the offence.

Eight shops in Gravesend believed to be involved in the sale of illegal tobacco products have been served with closure notices ahead of a court hearing on Friday where closure orders will be sought.
Approximately 25 Street Champion volunteers met in Gravesend Town Centre to participate in a litter pick, and to engage with members of the public about the blight of littering and the hard work that goes into keeping Gravesham clean and tidy.
Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Mayor of Gravesham sent a letter of condolence from the people of the Borough to the new King. We have received this card from His Majesty King Charles III addressed to all residents of Gravesham.
From next week the Gravesend Clock Tower will be illuminated blue as a mark of support for those suffering hardship during the Coronavirus outbreak and those in the NHS working to care for the sick and combat the spread.

🫙Gravesham residents can now put glass out for recycling with their fortnightly kerbside collection
♻️ With no separate container needed for glass items, households can rinse them, put the lids or caps back on and pop them in with the rest of their recycling.
Around 35 people face £1,000 fines or court action after CCTV caught them dumping rubbish at a recycling point at Morrisons, Northfleet.
Most offenders are being issued with £1,000 fixed penalty fines, but some will go straight to court.

During a recent inspection, the beacon at Windmill Hill, Gravesend, was found to be rotten at its base and in need of urgent repair. We've removed it while we make those repairs and will be making sure it is back in place as soon as possible.
