More mixed news from #Gough as the figures & footage are in from the MacGillivray’s Prions nesting in Prion Cave. In a nutshell: good breeding success this year, but we now have evidence of a resumption in mouse predation 💔 Full details in our NEW BLOG

@lluiss16 @NatureTristan @Natures_Voice @BirdLife_News @BirdLife_SA @IslasGECI @NoExtinctions @DefraGovUK @environmentza @rzss @mwlr_nz It will be a while yet - we need to understand what went 'wrong' last time and what we can do differently next time to increase our chances of success. We are working on it though!

@wheatearlp @mick_turton @NatureTristan @Natures_Voice @BirdLife_News @BirdLife_SA @IslasGECI @NoExtinctions @DefraGovUK @environmentza @rzss @mwlr_nz We remain committed to restoring Gough Island, but must await the findings of the Independent Review Panel - we hope these will help us understand what we might be able to do differently next time so as to increase the chances of eradication success

@lingenhoehl Not at this point, no. It may or may not be possible to do this - we will see. Our sampling coverage is limited across the island (not everywhere is accessible by foot) so perhaps not.

@lingenhoehl Sadly we weren't successful in our attempt to eradicate the mice from Gough. However, as you say & as breeding success of the island's seabird species' confirm, the reduction in mouse numbers has brought some respite from the immense predation pressure at least for a while.

@jrh406 @environmentza @NatureTristan @Natures_Voice @mwlr_nz @rzss @DefraGovUK @BirdLife_News @BirdLife_SA @NoExtinctions @IslasGECI At the moment we are trying to work out what might have allowed mice to persist first time around. That will then give us a better idea of what we can do differently next time to hopefully increase the chances of success.

For the #WorldAlbatrossDay2022 climate change theme Team #Gough baked this amazing, poignant cake. Their comms system was down on the day so 🤞 @Acap_birds will take a late entry for #AlbiCakeBakeOff Plus: no mouse wounds so far for 2022’s Tristan albatross chicks! #WAD2022
