@benyeohben @stianwestlake @tom_pakenham To @benyeohben’s point it is an intangible problem. Manufacturer rules means I can’t put it at the back of the house due to proximity to windows. Down the side the pump will be 70cm rather than 100cm from the boundary. That 30cm has cost me £2k so far and will prob kill it

@benyeohben @stianwestlake @tom_pakenham I live in a detached house but have still ended up having to get planning permission which included the need to get a noise survey. So far I am £2,000 down and I suspect permission will be refused.

The UK govt report on executive pay and investment that @GoslingTj and I did with @PwC is now out. Some firms do cut investment to meet EPS targets (while our earlier study found no such use of repurchases). But it's a few bad apples not the entire cart.

My @FT letter on the Scientific Beta study debunking claims of unambiguous ESG outperformance. SB's criticisms are correct. But they wouldn't be necessary if we made simple checks rather than accepting evidence at face value because we like the findings.

Interesting piece Tom. I think there's an important legitimacy question at the heart of how we move towards "responsible business" (of which I'm in many ways a fan). Is giving more power to unelected boards to decide political trade-offs really what we want?
